I'm Giving Away £500

JimK

Recommended Posts

OK, following on from the boot vs original pressing debate, imagine you were given £500 to spend in two weeks, to play a half hour slot - and impress (either yourself or others)!!! All original pressings ........ What would we see on the decks. Never mind the prices during the 70's, you're playing a week on Friday :wub:

PS. I work overtime to buy that original I've been hunting.

Spyder Turner - I cant make it anymore

Vernon Garrett - If I could turn back the hands of time

Ann Sexton - You've been gone too long

J Blackfoot - Where is love (Best £5 record anyone?)

Larry Houston - Lets spend some time together

PW Canon - Beating of my lonely heart

Barbara Lynn - This is the thanks I get

Rufus lumley - Stronger Than Me

And the big finish

April Stevens - Wanting You.

I dont care about the impressing anybody malarkey. Just a bunch of tunes that are financialy worth less than £500 (Probably less than £250), but are emotionally priceless to me.

Kirsty :ohmy::lol::lol:

me I'd buy matching record boxes to go with my outfit, matching speaker felt, turntable slip mats all matching, wouldnt put any record on that didnt colour code with the first one, so wouldnt have much change from 500 as of course it would all be designer. :D

That's just typical of you isn't it. Somebody gives you £500....and you spend it on CHEAP whores ohmy.gif

Beer and kebabs first and foremost mate.... :lol:

Plus I'd keep 'em at it for the whole night, so the hourly rate would soon add up......not like some 2 minute wonders :D

Anyway, you're a cheap (DJ) whore and I've spent me hard earned on you enough times.... :ohmy:

Carms, you missed a trick here as you could play the other side as well - 'I'll bet you' wink.gif

In fact on those lines you could buy any Fred Hughes record on Vee Jay, or Exodus and play both sides. Martyn

Just about going to say the same here you beat me to it :D .

:thumbsup: Over the 500 ? i should think you have gone over the half hour twice too !! :lol:

Decided to have a go at this earlier this evening, wasn't going to post it but seeing as it's back up here goes ;

Have to say though, don't envy these Dj's having to do a half hour spot ! So hard to mix styles in that time ! So many choices too ! hard to leave things out ! Think i'll stick with the day job :D

Here goes ;

1./ Blossoms - That's when the tears start - Reprise 2:23

2./ O.C. Smith - Double Life - Columbia 2:33

3./ Jimmy Holiday - I've been done wrong - Diplomacy 2:03

4./ Frankie Fanelli - I'm not the marrying kind - RCA 2:23 (guess many might not like this one but it leads into a mod tune well, & i like it so f*** em i'll take the rotten tomatoes ! :) )

5./ Bar-Kays - Knucklehead - Volt 2:25

6./ Hank Ballard - Do it zulu style - King 2.12

7./ Jackie Wilson - Squeeze her, Tease her - Brunswick 1:56

8./Shawn Elliot - The Joker - Roulette - 1:59

9./ Soulful Strings - Burning Spear - Cadet 2:54

10./ Tapestry - It's not the world that's messed up - Capitol 3:18

11./ Debbie Taylor - Never gonna let him know - GWP 2:56

12./ Intentions - Don't forget that i love you - Phillips 2:42

13./ Dee Dee Warwick - When love slips away - Mercury 2:55

14./ Sapphires - Gotta have your love - ABC Paramount 2:17 (end with a sing'a'long biggrin.gif )

Total 31.76 mins, get that back with fades though :D

On the subject of going over time, what happens at these does where there are lots of DJ's doing short sets ? So easy to go over & so the last bloke on might get to play only a couple of records if he's lucky !

Does someone stand & oversee the times or what ?

impossible if we don't know how much each record is gonna be worth. The hard thing is 30 mins is short if your trying to please all people by playing 60's,R & B, modern, or whatever

I guess with my estimate this is my setlist

Jeff Perry - Love Don't Come No Stronger

Kenny Thomas - Crazy World

Kirk Franklin - Looking For You

Marv Johnson - Come On and Stop

jackie Wilson - Because Of You

Paul Anka - When We Get There

Candi Staton - Now You Got The Upper Hand

Moses Smith - The Girl Accross the Street

Not own any on original single/12" and i think it should cover me up to £500
