JimK Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 OK, following on from the boot vs original pressing debate, imagine you were given £500 to spend in two weeks, to play a half hour slot - and impress (either yourself or others)!!! All original pressings ........ What would we see on the decks. Never mind the prices during the 70's, you're playing a week on Friday PS. I work overtime to buy that original I've been hunting.

Decided to have a go at this earlier this evening, wasn't going to post it but seeing as it's back up here goes ; Have to say though, don't envy these Dj's having to do a half hour spot ! So hard to mix styles in that time ! So many choices too ! hard to leave things out ! Think i'll stick with the day job Here goes ; 1./ Blossoms - That's when the tears start - Reprise 2:23 2./ O.C. Smith - Double Life - Columbia 2:33 3./ Jimmy Holiday - I've been done wrong - Diplomacy 2:03 4./ Frankie Fanelli - I'm not the marrying kind - RCA 2:23 (guess many might not like this one but it leads into a mod tune well, & i like it so f*** em i'll take the rotten tomatoes ! ) 5./ Bar-Kays - Knucklehead - Volt 2:25 6./ Hank Ballard - Do it zulu style - King 2.12 7./ Jackie Wilson - Squeeze her, Tease her - Brunswick 1:56 8./Shawn Elliot - The Joker - Roulette - 1:59 9./ Soulful Strings - Burning Spear - Cadet 2:54 10./ Tapestry - It's not the world that's messed up - Capitol 3:18 11./ Debbie Taylor - Never gonna let him know - GWP 2:56 12./ Intentions - Don't forget that i love you - Phillips 2:42 13./ Dee Dee Warwick - When love slips away - Mercury 2:55 14./ Sapphires - Gotta have your love - ABC Paramount 2:17 (end with a sing'a'long ) Total 31.76 mins, get that back with fades though On the subject of going over time, what happens at these does where there are lots of DJ's doing short sets ? So easy to go over & so the last bloke on might get to play only a couple of records if he's lucky ! Does someone stand & oversee the times or what ? Edited January 18, 2008 by Bogue
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 impossible if we don't know how much each record is gonna be worth. The hard thing is 30 mins is short if your trying to please all people by playing 60's,R & B, modern, or whatever I guess with my estimate this is my setlist Jeff Perry - Love Don't Come No Stronger Kenny Thomas - Crazy World Kirk Franklin - Looking For You Marv Johnson - Come On and Stop jackie Wilson - Because Of You Paul Anka - When We Get There Candi Staton - Now You Got The Upper Hand Moses Smith - The Girl Accross the Street Not own any on original single/12" and i think it should cover me up to £500
