Posted January 12, 200817 yr I love Diana Ross's vocals, but I have yet to hear a tune that inspires me, did she ever make any decent soul music other than the over-played chart stuff?

Diana did a wonderful version of "These things will keep me loving you" on her 1st album, worth the price of the lp alone. Regards Alan

Try these:- "You Keep Me Hanging On" "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" From the Supremes era, "One Love In My Lifetime" "Love Hangover" "The Boss" "No One Takes The Prize" "It's My House" "Missing You" From the Diana Ross era Best, Ian D

Always loved 'come see about me' fond of 'stoned love' & plenty of others. Gordy love certainly took her and Marvin's career's to the top of the Motown pile.

January 13, 200817 yr The Supremes' 'Will This Be The Day' is a nice sweet girly tune - flip of 'Love Child'.
January 13, 200817 yr Try the b side of Baby love Ask any girl Its not bad heard it played a few times at venues.
January 13, 200817 yr I Like "Nathan Jones" & "Happy as a Bumpy Road" as well as an unreleased version of "In My Lonely Room" I think she was rising as a solo artist as the Northern soul scene was moving in a different direction, for many she was the epitome of black american music for others she was identified with the commercialism we weren't looking for.

I was going to say Nathan Jones myself but wasn't it Jean Terrell singing lead on this. I think she got the job because she had a similar voice to Diana Ross.
January 13, 200817 yr hope these supes tunes work ok, https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Supreme...In_My_Heart.ram https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Diana_Ross_...es_-_Stormy.ram https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Supreme...Lonely_Room.ram https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Supreme...s_All_I_Got.ram
January 13, 200817 yr IMHO: Nothing but Heartaches Back in my Arms Again These Things will keep me Loving You Uptight In and out of LOve Someday we`ll be Together
January 13, 200817 yr i agree about the flip to 'baby love' - 'ask any girl' is really good imo shane
January 13, 200817 yr If you want straight from the heart, gut wrenching, That artist really f####ing means that shit soul, then listen to the live version of 'Someday We'll Be Together' on the Ten years of Motown box set. I've said it on here many times, you cant get the hairs standing up on your neck if it aint soul. And WOW that track is just about as good as it gets.

Imho Dianna Ross is totally overrated and has never made a decent record, made records yeah, some stuff with the Supremes was ok and aimed at the pop market. but other motown females were far more talented and over looked.
January 13, 200817 yr Any girl in love (knows what I'm going through) The way you hesitate to kiss me Makes me cry sometimes The way you never seem to miss me Makes me cry sometimes But i never bother To wipe the tears from my face 'cause i know another tear Will fall in it's place Holland/Dozier/Holland

January 14, 200817 yr IMO, You've Been So Wonderful To Me is an excellent record which shows how well DR could sing without being surrounded by loads of Instumental noise. I've always thought that her records get a poor deal from the scene. Nice to hear some underplayed (i.e not Baby Love) Supremes being played at the odd do I've been to recently. I've said this before and I'll say it again, IMHO Diana Ross had a better singing voice than Martha Reeves and maybe Berry Gordy thought so to, but I'm sure someone will put me right with the history/politics of Motown at the time. KTF. Drew.
January 16, 200817 yr Diana Ross to me was so much better with the supremes. However she did do Chain Reaction as a solo artist which i like But what about anything she did as a solo artist which is more Northern Soul if any
January 20, 200817 yr nothing but heartaches by the supremes is a nice tune imo here they are doing it live(ish!!!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBh60cD7C9o
