Anybody know of any Northern nights coming up in Bristol?

I've got some work related stuff coming up down there and wanted to try and tie up with a do - got to be within a taxi ride of the City Centre (or Bath centre).

I've tried searching through events but didnt have much luck - found one night doing nu soul, soul but thats just not my cup of tea.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers,

Dave

Without wishing to offend anyone from Bristol, unless it has changed it is an oversized village trying to be a town!..Which has always been souless(reggae loads)

Steve

No offence taken Steve.....you're right, I've been down here 20 years and Bristol is a desert as far as venues go...there was a monthly do on the Thekla run by a soulsourcer and there's a bar on Gloucester Road that was doing a mid week night recently......perhaps Dean knows of it, but that's your lot......now records thats a different thing altogether, over those 20years I've picked up some bloody good stuff in Bristol, when I first came down went into a shop called Plastic Wax, albums, mostly US, 50p each three for a £1, had a field day, junk shops, markets, car boots, records everywhere...too good to last of course but even so still picked up the odd bargain over the last few years, sadly my local record shop Rubber Soul closed its doors last week after 15/16 years trading, one of the first I got off Andy I remember was Darrow Fletcher's 'What Have I Got Now' for £3 the last was Charles Wright 'Keep Saying (You Don't Love Nobody), t'other week, a fiver.....seeing the shop standing empty makes the desert statement above seem even more pertinent, which is why I'm a travelling man Steve thumbsup.gif

shows how long it is since i went into bristol cant believe andy has gone :( had some right bargains in there myself....and a la reine la mar came out of plastic wax....mind you i think it took jase starr 4 hours to find it.........sadly things are a bit thin on the ground at this end of the country......and so we boldy tromp off up north to spin a few discs.....cos theres nowhere to DJ round here  even if they would have me on  ... most local do's seem to be bog standard oldies and frequented by folk that dont go anywhere else......somebody please bring a forward thinking nite to the area......

cookie

ps cant find that do in events .....

events calender jan 18th,down the bottom...posted a flyer on here too....i havnt seen the venue myself as john is the promoter but the music will be good,no snake,do i love you,out on the floor etc..no boots...if youre not up north come and give us a look..if supported will be the third friday of every month

ive played at the gloucester rd nite a couple of times"getting together" are now looking for new venues and maybe starting a nite at the turnpike, bath rd nr totterdown brigde so watch this space....

shame about andy, landlord wanted the shop back and its been a tuff year with ebay etc to contend with,he will be working from home and doing the local fairs etc so watch out for him...

as was discussed on a thread a few weeks back lots of secondhand shops finishing, was in norwich at christmas and one there is also closing soon, but i suppose its a sign of the times...who sells thier secondhand stuff to shops now ?..most of it goes on ebay

Thanks for the reply's guys - I like the sound of the new night spacehopper - I'm already sorted for January but if you are doing one in Feb, could be on for that - any chance of PM'ing some details?

I've also been recommended to visit plastic wax - the owner is a friend of one of the guys I will be tieing up with work-wise and he's already given me a stack of stories!

I DJ'ed myself a year or so back at a night in Taunton, but not sure if they are doing any more.

Thanks again for the info - will be in touch,

Dave
