Guest Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Hi all, Sob story feel free to skip ;-) I'm posting on behalf of my father in law. He's a northern soul fan from the old days. Goes on about some club called the "Broken Wheel" in Manchester when he's drunk. Anyway to cut a long story short he sold his record collection many years ago and still regrets it. As a Birthday present we thought we'd do him a compilation CD of songs he hasn't been able to track down. Thought it would be easy, jez was I wrong. I've found 6 so far and 2 I have doubts they are either complete or even the right song. I'm looking for MP3 format preferably if you know of one on a different format I'm sure I can convert it. Any Links or hints & tips about where to look etc would be greatly appreciated. I found one track he wanted on a compilation CD called Wigan Casino. So if you know if any of these appear on any I'd be grateful. Great forum by the way, when he's round at our house I'll be sure to get him to check you out. Thanks in advance for your time. Questions: Get out - Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes (Is this only 1 minute long?) The Night - Frankie Valli and the four seasons ( does he mean "Oh what a night" or are these two separate songs?) The following are the ones I've been unable to find ;-( It's against the laws of love - The Volcanos. (this one he really wants) Don't depend on me - Fantastic Johnny C I'm your pimp - The Skullsnaps Loving good feeling - The Lollipops When you called me baby - Joey Heatherton Soul Symphony - the sons of moses It takes heart - Greg Perry A house for sale - Millie Jackson Happy - The velvet hammer Sexy lady - The Mylestones A good thing going - Phil Coulter Keep on running away - Bits N Pieces You sexy sugar plum - Roger Collins Please keep away from me - Eddie Parker You better keep her - Marvin Holmes Hold back the night - The Tramps Ordinary Joe - Terry Callier I've been cheated - Dalton Boys So many sides of you - The Trends Packing up - Damon Fox Why am I loving you - Debbie Dean What's it gonna be - Susan Barrett Cochise - Paul Humphrey Thanks
Pete S Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 The majority of those are on officially released cd's. If you want to grab them for free go to www.soulclub.org and you'll find 99% of them. The intro to Get Out is about 40 seconds long, and The Night and Oh What A Night are two different tracks. You could always buy him the Wigan Casino Story vols 1, 2 and 3, Twisted Wheel Story 1 & 2 and Golden Torch Story 1 & 2, all on Goldmine label - thats should keep him happy.
Sutty Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 the wheel closed in 1971, some of those records were not made then (?) (Millie Jackson, Terry Callier, Greg Perry). As Pete says, they are available legally on cd's that are not expensive or hard to find. There is also a site that sells mp3 downloads, I assume it is legal but offhand can't remember the name of the site, maybe someone can help there? cheers Paul
Guest Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Cheers for the fast replies. I've never heard of the wheel or most of the artists to be honest. Thanks for the help and the site info. I'll check it out when I get home. Martyn.

Guest Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I'm guessing that it would have been the twisted wheel in Manchester. Found a couple of other sites rummaging around your forum I'll give them a try later. Cheers for the replies. Best get some work done I s'pose.
