Chalky Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 (edited) Just watched Jackie Brown (Film) again, some great toons. Got me thinking, whats the best soul soundtracks on Film? Car wash/ Shaft/ SNF/ Jackie Brown? Any others? Ed watched it too Ed, sounded good didn't it, and the Delfonics. I know it's not soul (well not all of it) but the Wanderers soundtrack not too bad. Monique Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Jackie Brown is one of my favourite films partly because of the soundtrack. Like The Wanderers as well.
Guest Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Trouble Man - Marvin Gaye Slaughter's Big Rip Off - James Brown Decent contenders but I DO lurrrrve Across 110th Street - ah and welcome to Haarlem guys

Ged Parker Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Across 110th Street was first used in the film of the same name and then in Jackie Brown its been used in another film recently as well but can't just think at the mo. Superb record too.
Modernsoulsucks Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Search out the Prequel To Carlitos Way. Brilliant film, brilliant sound track. Is that some Italian mob film? I have noticed down through the years that quite a few of that type will feature soul/doo-wop tracks. I liked the early Robert de Niro thing. Was it "Mean Streets" where he's dancing to "Mickey's Monkey"? ROD
Guest Darks Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Is that some Italian mob film? I have noticed down through the years that quite a few of that type will feature soul/doo-wop tracks. I liked the early Robert de Niro thing. Was it "Mean Streets" where he's dancing to "Mickey's Monkey"? ROD Defo "Mean Streets". Great bit of dancing from Bobby. The film also features a superb doo-wop track "rubber biscuit". Great film alround. Not surprising as Marty Scorsese is a big music fan. "Shaft in Africa" is a fav as it features the Four Tops "are you man enough". Always gets me going. My number 1 favourite though is probably from "Short Eyes" Curtis Mayfield's "Another fool in love" superb ballad. The film was shown on cable this year. A pretty heavy film that doe'st pull its punches regarding prison life and not what I would term as Ba Then theres "Sweetbacks theme" from the Melvin Van Peebles film. A strange film indeed and I can't remember if it is good or bad. Oh and "Goodfellas" as a great soundtrack and not forgetting De Niro's own production "A Bronx Tale" Which has a blinding scene involving first love and the Four Tops "Baby I need your loving" together with another scene where they drive through a black neighbourhood to the sound of Don Gardner and Dee Dee whatshername singing "I need your loving" a mean record of the highest order. Gotta go and do some dusting. Regards Alan PS Just remembered the original "Hair spray" featured a cameo of Tousaint McCall "Nothing can take your place".
Funky Si Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Superfly? Surely it has to be Superfly ....
Guest Gavin Page Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Allways thought Shaft in Africa underated I have always been a big fan of sound tracks and still am, both for Jazz and Soul cuts Shaft In Africa has to be up there in my record room.
Cover-up Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Spike Lee's "Crooklyn" has a great soundtrack... just like a fantastic mixtape, really.

Steve G Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I love the soundtrack from Dirty Harry. Brilliant funky breakbeats all the way through by Henry Mancini. Jordi Yup and Lalo Shiffrin's soundtracks are all excellent as well.
Guest Gavin Page Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 And Quincy Jones"s Cheers Paul Oh YES !!!!
Chalky Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Watching Casino on Sky, plenty of soul/r&b, last two The In Crowd and Compared To What.
Missing Link Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Curtis Mayfield - Superfly definitely No. 1 closely followed by Marvin Gaye - Trouble Man Worth a mention is 'Together Brothers' by Barry White & the Love Unlimited Orchestra (haven't seen the film of this one). A good CD of soul blaxploitation movie themes is 'Badmutha's' with a good cross-section from Trouble Man, Shaft, Cleopatra Jones, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, Superfly, Slaughter's Big Rip-Off, Balck Caesar, etc.
Guest SoulBoogieAlex Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hey, it needs an Honorable mention at least
Guest Gavin Page Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Compared To What. Not sure what it is with this tune, I never get bored of hearing it. This post made me go a drag it out again as I had not heard it for ages. Great little record
