Ta Tony according to JM ,there's no significant proof which one was issued first, but i think it looks slightly better on Golden Gate(iv'e always thought this one was the "original",cos i came across the DTE one's at The Mecca and thought there was too many about ).

I think all the down to earth records were imported to the UK because I have rarely found it on golden gate in the US but never found it on down to earth. Of course this is entirely possible because all the lamar / down to earth stock ended up in one place that was easy to pull out and export from the US. The record was produced by Burgess Gardner and Down to Earth was Burgess and Walter's label. I don't know which one was first either.
Citizen P Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 Thanks, any clue on a value on Golden Gate?? Tony
Citizen P Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Thanks, any clue on a value on Golden Gate?? Tony And do I take it that the Golden Gate is the more difficult one? Tony
Guest Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 And do I take it that the Golden Gate is the more difficult one? Tony Tony, Both releases are tricky to find, our data actually surprised me: In the last 8 years we have sold 5 copies of the Golden Gate and only 1 of the Down To Earth. Golden Gate 45 attracts me personally, more than the Down To Earth release, but on our recent experience it's 5 x commoner.
Citizen P Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Thanks John, So a £5 find represents a bit of a bargain then? Tony
Guest Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Thanks John, So a £5 find represents a bit of a bargain then? Tony Yanks/Global record importer in Manchester had loads of Down To Earth copies and they where all styrene type plastic, I thought they were boots/represses of the vinyl Down To Earth 45. It is a lot rarer on Down To Earth on the VINYL type plastic. All the Golden Gate copies I have seen have been vinyl and look very simlar to the Down To Earth vinyl copies and if memory serves me correctly, all thats different is the name. Must agree with previous posts and think it looks better on Golden Gate.
