Guest maria Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Whats your favourite lyrics from a northern/soul sound here`s one of mine ITS ALMOST LIKE EATING PEAS BY THE POUND THEN WRAPPING UP IN ADHESIVE TAPE FROM THE WAIST DOWN EXCITERS-BLOWING UP MY MIND-RCA Many years ago a great guy I know wrote all the lyrics in a letter to his girlfriend from the song by Bobby Hebb, Love Love Love, A beautiful song and a very touching thought, I never mentioned it to him, but with a twinkle in her eye she convided in me of what he had done. So every time I hear this record I recall the above story.

Simsy Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 People say I'm the life of the party Because I tell a joke or two Although I might be laughing loud and hearty Deep inside I'm blue So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears.. I need you, need you Since you left me if you see me with another girl Seeming like I'm having fun Although she may be cute She's just a substitute Because you're the permanent one.. So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears.. I need you, need you Outside I'm masquerading Inside my hope is fading Just a clown oh yeah Since you put me down My smile is my make up I wear since my break up with you.. So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears William 'Smokey' Robinson Jr.

foolish fool Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Something told me it was over when I saw you and her talking, Something deep down in my soul said, Cry boy when I saw you and that girl walking. Rbman Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Can't be arsed to read all the posts so I hope I'm not repeating one that someone has already mentioned but I just love the lyrics to Johnny Wyatt's "I Wouldn't Change A Thing About You" the flip to 1-2-3. A Demo only I'm told...why it never saw a release, sold big and crossed over to the pop charts I'm not sure. I still haven't got a copy so if you have one for sale let me know. Reminds me of an ex girlfriend too.

Soulfreak Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Some great lyrics on here, and I love a good wrist slashing lyric myself, but a song that always makes me grin is 'Sho Wasn't Me' by the late lamented Ronnie Lovejoy; You say your sister saw me, comin' out the Holiday Inn. And the woman I was with, used to be your best friend. Well she must need glasses, 'cause that sho wasn't me. Your sister's got a bad case, of mistaken identity. I could even give you an alibi, but all you gonna do, is turn around and call me a liar. Your sister done lied on me, she oughta take it all back. All I've got to say is this about that. If you didn't see my face, then I sho wasn't there. You can say all you want about me Go on babe, I don't care. You can put me anywhere, Anywhere you want me to be. But if you didn't come up and touch me, Then it sho wasn't me. Now I've been accused, Oh so many times. All this women you given me, They can't all be mine. You say their husbands are comin' in the front door, And I'm runnin' out the back. Well this couldn't be me baby, I wasn't raised like that. These women are jealous, Lyin' about the things I do. And even the fellas, Hah! they lyin' on me too. They'll do me wrong, At the drop of a hat. Well all I can say is this about that You didn't find my drawers Beside nobody's bed. You didn't find my hat, I still got my hat on my head. You said you saw somebody, Who looks exactly like me. But if you didn't come up and touch me, then it sho wasn't me
Guest SteveC Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Been through the thread. Dont think Ray Pollard's "The Drifter" has been mentioned. From the unissued Little Ann's " Lean Lanky Daddy" the final lines: I just wanna tell all you girls about my man Coz he's a smooth operator Yeah he's a mind regulator Superb!!!
Simsy Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Been through the thread. Dont think Ray Pollard's "The Drifter" has been mentioned. Great minds! Post # 15 "And when I go into a town the people there just put me down they say hey drifter go away don't want your kind around, so I go my way back to the highway" Ray Pollard. I'm gonna find somebody whose in my corner so I know she's there when I wanner I could never put my trust in you cos a all the sneaky things that you do
Guest SteveC Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Great minds! Post # 15 Sorry - was listening to Posh scoring 8 goals at the time - so forgive me!!
Barry Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 a mate of mine payed £50 fo it so i had a cheeky grin when when i got it for a fiver 3 weeks later at clifton hall Whatever you paid for that record is irrelevant, it is as you say a beautiful track - I see it regularly for about £8-£10 - probably a pound dearer than a Wombats CD (???)... really! "I know that something is wrong baby, I can feel the vibe! Let's forgive and forget honey - and give-a-love another try!" It always had the ability to hush a dancefloor - it drew whoever was on that dancefloor together - the inspired delivery that Larry Houston made of that song, I feel (and forget Northern Soul here, let's talk music) was unsurpassed. I'm feeling particularly starry eyed tonight, but I make no apologies for my views on a track that should be deemed as a Top Ten Northen Soul dancefloor shaper. Proof that Modern/Newies brought another....relevant, emotional angle to peoples mindset as they danced.
Barry Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I'm sure you know the track.. " I don't want no-one who don't love me, Who keep on dishin' out misery! You don't want no-one who don't treat you right [sho-Nuff] She gotta give you lovin' every night now! You an' your new love 'Keep On, Keepin' On!' I know that loving feeling is gone, Yeah! Too late, Too late, Too late Baby now! Too late - Whoohooooh!!" Beat that with a bat!?
Guest moggy Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 "Because I love you, better than I do myself" Sam Williams "My heart is like an oak tree, standing big and tall" Jock Mitchell "Im undaunted by your force, & Im gonna shout it until Im horse" "youyouyou your just too darn soulful" Morris Chestnut "True love can be so hard to find, but when you find it, it can mess up your mind" Alexander Patten
Simsy Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Involving just the two of us together on a night like this you just look at me and touch my hand and then we'll try a little kiss
scotchmartin Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 What's the first one from - it's really annoying me but I can't place the lyric even though I know it from somewhere - Valatone I think? A distant night and lonely days I see your face in many ways, But you are gone, and Im alone, I need your love to carry me through, carry me through and The way hold your head, to understand what I say, Oh this gets to me baby, the way you pout and cry everytime I say goodbye, it gets to me baby, The way you give your kiss from your soul not your lips, the way you hold me tenderly, this gets to me oh, baby how it gets to me! and It takes gallons of water, to make the deepest sea, it takes a whole lot of pain, to make a misery, But all it took was a little kiss, to make my poor heart feel like this, filled with joy and filled with glee, I dont know whats come over me.
wolfie66 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 "I'm a minger You're a minger too, Come on minger, I want to ming with you" And of course................... "I'm forever blowing bubbles, Pretty bubbles in the air. They fly so high, Nearly reach the sky, Then like my dreams, They fade and die. Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere, I'm forever blowing bubbles, Pretty bubbles in the air Utd. Utd. errr Utd"
