Simsy Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Sleepless nights I lie awake, thinking how my heart is breakin. backed with a thumping bass, George Blackwell brilliant. Good choice. "When you've got the troubles of the world on your shoulders and each passing day the sun grows a little colder, your future doesn't look any brighter, your load isn't getting any lighter, you're down and push has come to shove, now is the time to try my love". "They say the race is not won by the fast, but by the man who endures to the last, if I have to spend a lifetime making you mine then I'm well prepared for the task". "I've seen a whole lotta' women, I've held a lot of hands, I've kissed the sweetest lips from Jane to Marry-ann, but I'm sticking with you baby, like a fuse to dynamite, I'll bust in a million pieces if you don't love me tonight". Gotta love it!

Soulie_girl_80 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I know the reason you've been crying Oh yes I heard she won't be needing you How does it feel being the one left behind What's a matter baby is it hurting you I know you found out she's been cheating And I heard she even told you she was untrue How does it feel being on the outside looking in What's a matter baby is it hurting you Remember Remember when I needed you so bad Remember Remember what you had to say You told me to find another shoulder to cry on Then you laughed You laughed and you walked away I know that you've been asking about me (ha-ha) And I'm sorry but I've got somebody new Now my hurting is just about over But baby it's just starting for you! love this
Soulie_girl_80 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 You call my name Oooh so sweet To make your kiss incomplete When your mood is clear You quickly change your ways Then you say I'm untrue What am I supposed to do Be a fool who sits alone waiting for you ... Stevie Wonder Little girl again you are blue someone else has gone and hurt you now you come to me, your best friend telling your sad story again once more you'll look in my eyes and i know you will realise that im the one that loves you ... Jerry Butler You made my soul a burning fire You're getting to be my one desire You're getting to be all that matters to me And let me tell you boy I hope and pray each day I live A little more love I'll have to give A little more love that's devoted and true 'Cause all I do is think about you ... Miss Tammi Terrell and lots more but now going to sleeep.. nite nite!

"I wanna try love just one more time, but I know my life'll be worth one thin dime, but I love you oh I love you whaaaaaaaat more.." "Well do you tell all your gruesome friends when they enquire as to have I've been".
Guest Dante Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Being totally honest, I've always thought that lyrics is northern's week spot. Maybe because english is not my mother language, maybe because I've always liked reeaaaally good lyrics (look at my avatar ) Anyway, I like Backstreet by Edwin. But one of the faves deffo is Irma Thomas' Don't Mess With My Man: "The money my husband makes is for greenpeas and rice but my man gives me steak now, ain't that nice? You can have my husband but please dont mess with my man" haha great! Cheers from Mexico...
Barry Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I could just write the whole lyrics out for Bits 'n Pieces - 'Keep On Running Away', but the opening line sets the scene for the tale well enough... "OOOH I've tried so hard now Baby, To get you to see things like me.." Simply heartbreaking.

Guest Dante Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Well now that a Reggae/Ska section of the forum has appeared, I'm gonna go with: "Get up in the morning, baked beans for breakfast" -Desmond Decker Thought it was: "Get up in the morning slaving for bread, sir so that every mouth can be fed" Talking 'bout reggae/ska, one of the worst lyrics ever, IMO, Miss Jamaica. Sounds like a Hallmark St Valentine's Day Card

Guest rachel Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Always a favourite line for me is from Shirley Whal's - 'That's How Long' - King 'Tell the DJs they've got nothing to say... until they have no more records to play' I used to have this one as my signature on here - I think it's 'until the DJs have nothing to say...' though. You don't know the suffering I go through - Dena Barnes. Oh yes, and I'm with Chrissie on Jerry Williams as well, the alpha.. omega.. line sends shivers down my spine. Have to seriously think about this one but I'll be back with some quotes I'm sure... I'm a bit of a lyrics obsessive. Remember hearing some 'advice' about soul which I think came second hand from Jo Wallace.. "don't listen to the lyrics or you're f**ked"
Harry Crosby Posted December 29, 2007 Author Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) Another one of my favourites- SHE STANDS 5 FEET TALL AND A QUARTER THERE AINT A GOOD THING SHE DON`T HAVE SHE`S GOT GOOD THINGS IN GOOD ORDER ONE LOOK AND YOU WILL SEE WHY IVE GOT TO BRING HER IN ALIVE YES SHE`S WANTED IN THREE STATES AND HER CRIME IS HEARTBREAK TOP LYRICS BY MR HOLMAN OF COURSE LARRY CLINTON BRILLIANT WITH A CAPITAL B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 [OOPS MISSED OUT WEIGHS ONE TWENTY TWO AND A HALF} Edited December 29, 2007 by HARRY CROSBY

"don't listen to the lyrics or you're f**ked" totally agree Rachel, listening to an artist pumping out the lyrics wether they are good or bad can be quite gut renching at times, but its a bit like eating a sugar doughnut, you cant help but lick your lips

Barry Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 (edited) I can't believe Gerri Grainger - I Go To Pieces has not yet been mentioned!! I remember it being played for Mike Walker and I heard those lyrics in context for the first time - poignant and beautiful. May I also add the old BB standard, it's quickie: "Shoes...you keep on walking on back, back to her?" Edited December 30, 2007 by Barry

" Got to get my gear out ready for the winter chill " That line of the lyric still brings a smile to my face ...... Malc Burton Speaking of lyrics that bring a smile, a though this is possibly not adhering to the, I think, initial sentiment in the opening post regarding lyrics (as they aren't really premeditated lyrics maybe) but I do love the fade out party line in Frankie Crockers 'TOD' - It's the way she spits 'em out... "What a Bullet - CHARTBUSTER!' A time and a place in New York City.
Maxwell Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 just hung up the telephone, i heard all about you, your new boyfriend couldnt wait to tell me, that you and i are through, dont try to spare my feelings just get out!
Barry Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 "And as - time goes by, Things get cold and dry, There's no more water in the well. And there ain't no way that two can come together, If we stay locked in our cell - Awww, Keep The Fires Burning!" Apologies, not inherantly Northern I know but you can't argue with the poetry and relevance of those words.

Deegee Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 A distant night and lonely days I see your face in many ways, But you are gone, and Im alone, I need your love to carry me through, carry me through and The way hold your head, to understand what I say, Oh this gets to me baby, the way you pout and cry everytime I say goodbye, it gets to me baby, The way you give your kiss from your soul not your lips, the way you hold me tenderly, this gets to me oh, baby how it gets to me! and It takes gallons of water, to make the deepest sea, it takes a whole lot of pain, to make a misery, But all it took was a little kiss, to make my poor heart feel like this, filled with joy and filled with glee, I dont know whats come over me.
Guest SoulBoogieAlex Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 It's All Over by Ben E King ranks up there with one of my favorite performances and lyrics.
