Guest chorleybloke Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 "I Gotta Go" on Saxony & Trip by The Ditalians & just on Saxony by The Traditions - presumably the same blokes, anyone confirm? Same question goes for "Look Into My Heart" by Ree Flores & Little Willie Faulk, both on M&H? Also - any idea of rarity? I know Ree Flores is hard but dunno about tuther 3 Cheers Pete
Chalky Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) The Ditalians first released on Trip which was part of the Saxony set up. Different flip for the Saxony release. Seen it in recent times for around £150 on Trip but would go for more these days, one on Soulsupermarket for £250. There is a web page for Saxony, you can read it HERE some photos of the various acts in there too including one of Gerri Diamond There a bit more about the label on cdbaby HERE from what I can gather the Ditalians went on to become 24-Carat Black on Stax and included amongst them Ricky Foster, William Gentry, Gregory Ingram, Jerome Derrickson, William Talbert, Dale O. Warren, James Terry, Edwin Hubbard, Nick Vergos, Ernest Latimore, Larry Austin, Tyrone Steels, Princess Hearn, Kathleen Dent, Valerie Malone. Edited December 24, 2007 by chalky
Guest Johnny Mack Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) Pete Ree Flores and Little Willie Faulk are both hard - There was a recent thread on here asking for value of Little Willie Faulk - 1500 UK, perhaps more - I've seen more copies of Ree Flores but that's only a personal observation. Same song but two different singers. John "I Gotta Go" on Saxony & Trip by The Ditalians & just on Saxony by The Traditions - presumably the same blokes, anyone confirm? John I would rate Rees Flores around half what you rate Willie Faulk at, maybe less. It was pretty indemand not so long ago and was fetching a four figure sum. Like you seen more Rees Flores. Can't find much info on the Traditions...yet!
Quinvy Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I was always led to believe that Little Willie Falk was the harder one, but you never see Ree Flores either. Prefer L.W.F version myself, and would love to own it. Anyone?

There is also an ultra-rare chicago connected ditalians release. They played in a group called Chocolate Sunday, lead by Chicago singer Bruce Thompson.
Prophonics 2029 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Are thse the same Traditions the band from Pottsville.
Guest chorleybloke Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Are thse the same Traditions the band from Pottsville. Thanks for all the info chaps. I reckon there must be at least 2 Traditions bands - "My Life With You" on Barclay sounds like its the white guys pictured but probably not the same blokes who did the excellent "Twinkle Little Star" on A-Bet. Merry Xmas BTW - already 28 degrees here at 08:30 with 38 forecast later. Cheers Pete

It's f*cking freezing here!
Prophonics 2029 Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 The band formed in 1965 they seem to have been with Clay untill 1967 an reformed in the 1970ts under the name of Sweet Vengance I don't have any other info except for a few tracks.
Chalky Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 (edited) I've been in touch with one of the label owners Paul Trefzger and here's what he says...... Hi Chalky, Well, first of all, the groups are not the same. The Ditalians were black and The Traditions were white. The lead singer of the Ditalians, Bruce Torbert who was 16 when he recorded the songs died during the 70's. Some of the Ditalians went on to success with other soul groups but I can't give you the details at this time. I know less about The Traditons. They were found for the song that I wrote (FOREVER AND ALWAYS ) by the lyric writer Victoria Brunke and her husband.............who I believe are both deceased. The first release of the song was on Bell label...............but I think the Tradions of later Bell label fame were a black group that sang a more rhythm and blues type soul. Our Traditions were, I believe, the ones you refer to as being from Nashville..............but I have no information on any later records they did as a group or individually. The sons and nephews of some of the Ditalians had a recording studio in Northern Kentucky across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, and I believe got into rap and sampling, and current music. Hope I've been of some help. Sorry, no photos of either. We were so focused on the music at the time and getting money together that we (each working daytime jobs as we were in our early 20s) came up short on getting photos for promotion and in a number of areas that major labels have the ability to do. I appreciate your interest, wish you the best of luck, and feel free to contact me. Yours very truly, Paul Edited December 26, 2007 by chalky
Chalky Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 had another e-mail from Paul after I'd mentioned Gerri Diamond and in particular the Counterpart release Only You..... I haven't heard that song............but I know Shad O'Shea, Counterpart's owner in Cincinnati. I spoke to Gerri several years ago and she was working on getting a CD together of all her material (several labels) and she emphasized she had most recently done "more bluesy stuff". I believe she was set back by the death of her husband (I think). Would be a great CD, if it ever happens. I'm partial to her I'M BREAKING THE LAW. I was floored when I "rediscovered" it getting material together for our VAULTS CD. I thought, "Why the hell didn't we release this back in the 60s?
Guest chorleybloke Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 had another e-mail from Paul after I'd mentioned Gerri Diamond and in particular the Counterpart release Only You..... Excellent stuff, nice 1 Chalky. These guys must be chuffed getting queries like this. Cheers Pete
Chalky Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Excellent stuff, nice 1 Chalky. These guys must be chuffed getting queries like this. Cheers Pete he was surprised and delighted to know there is still an interest in his music. Shad O'Shea has been a well known figure on the music scene in the US, owned or did own Fraternity records, I presume it's the same Fraternity whioch recorded Casinos, Imaginations and the Blackjack label with Eddie Whitehead related in some ways, all are Counterpart Recordings, which was as said a labwel alos owned by Shad O'Shea in Cincinnati. Sure Ady Croasdell will confim or add bit more about him.

Guest Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Have very recently been chatting via email to a member of Ditalians, Forrest Huchinson (far right) who sent me this photo. Told me that one member is died in the 70s, one is in jail and he has totally lost touch with the other. I asked if there was a link to the Traditions and he confirmed there is not and said he did not know the Traditions but remembers a band of that name but no other details,

He was the Lead on I Gotta Go. I've been exchanging e-mails with Paul Trefzeger all day, I also mailed him the photo (Traditions) Prophonics psoted up and he said they look only vaguely familiar. He met them twice at the most, remembers none of their names but they were definately white. He's not even sure if they are the same band (those in the photo that is).

Adam. any chance scan of the flip before you post it more useless trivia..... Paul Trefzeger also told me early tonight that there was no such group called the Teddy Boys (who recorded on Saxony). This was in fact John Reynolds with any old artist roped in to sing backing, John Reynolds was the bass player of Bud Reneau's band The Matadors when they played Northern Kentucky..........wonder which Matadors this is, The ones on Chavis/Keith???? Bud Reneau also moved to Nashville in late 60's, this could be a connection with the Traditions who recorded on Barclay and possibly A-bet, are they then the same group that recorded on Saxony? Are the white Barclay Traditions the same group that sang Twinkle Little Star on A-bet? Edited December 26, 2007 by chalky
