Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is the messiest recording ever to have been played on the scene

Same here Dave.

Strange thing is though I should hate it but I don't.

Will post part 1 up in a minute.

this record was first found in 1975 by rug(r.i.p) wilkie from corby and a fella from wellingborough called kitty wells

The very first copy of "Lonely girl" was found by Wilkie (of Corby) & Rug (Highham Ferrers) whilst hunting in Philly. They sold it to me, and I tried to "join" up the two sides Part 1 & part 2 on an acetate to play the full version at The Pier. It never worked and Eric Mercury only got a few plays of the real disc, it never really took off..and got sold on a few months later.

The rest is history, today I'd rate it right up there with the NS most-wanted!

"I must of been 15yrs old when we first met"

Yes, and you were a pain in the arse when everyone was trying to sleep in the back of the transit coming back from The Mecca, could we shut you up....

Sorry thought someone had already answered that, as far as I know Eric Mercury has never been bootlegged.

Pure Northern Soul magic..............never fails to raise the hairs on the back of the neck, the opening bars come in & whooooooooooooooosssssshhhhhhhhhh one of those records that vibrates thru your soul with ya heart pumpin' to the beat, pray to god that it never gets booted or turns up, the few times we are treated to this a year are magical. And after all these years still makes me think WOW, this is what its all about !!!!!.

Brenda Holloway as a stand alone record is ok, but by comparison to EM fades into insignificance IMO.

Hi Russ, you are so right about this. I have both the Eric Mercury 45 and the old Jobete Brenda Holloway acetate and always thought it would be anice idea to mix all three versions inbetwenn one spot...never done so yet as I have to agree with you regarding the quality of Brenda Holloways first version of this tuzne. Good but weak ion comparison to Mr. Mercury.

So it's rarity of the 45 is not clouded by rash comments. Ian Clark (he's older than me) has actually had only ever had THREE copies, I've only ever had two. It's a damn tough record to find.
