Rocky Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) It breaks my heart but I'm selling my sounds that I've collected since my first visit to the Torch as a spotty kid. They've been in the loft for nearly 10 years which is criminal - I believe in they should be played and appreciated. Have given a few hundred to friends but have 50 or so left which I'm putting on ebay but have no idea what some are worth. Been reading this site for years and hope you can help with letting me know their value or if you want any. Here's a few :- THE DIFFERENCES - FIVE MINUTES - MON'CA VG+ (on ebay now) JERRY WILLIAMS - IF YOU ASK ME - CALL VG+ CONNIE CLARK - MY SUGAR BABY - JOKER VG++ TOMANGOES - I REALLY LOVE YOU - WASHPAN VG++ RITA DACOSTA - DON'T BRING ME DOWN - MOHAWK VG++ PATTI AUSTIN - TAKE AWAY THE PAIN STAINS - SAGITTARIUS VG++ MARKE JACKSON - I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU - JAMIE VG++ MILL EVENS - I'VE GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE - CONSTELLATION VG++ EPITOME OF SOUND - YOU DON'T LOVE ME - SANDBAG VG++ JAMES LEWIS - MANIFESTO - LEGEND VG+ JO ARMSTEAD - I FEEL AN URGE - GIANT VG++ NANCY WILSON - END OF OUR LOVE - CAPITOL UK VG+ JOE TEX - UNDER YOUR POWERFUL LOVE - DIAL VG++ TOBI LEGEND - TIME WILL PASS YOU BY - ERIC VG+ Most of these are probably EX/+ (shiny & unmarked) but I'm no expert and would prefer to be cautious. ANY ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED ! HAPPY XMAS, LONG LIVE SOUL. Edited December 15, 2007 by Rocky

ANY ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED ! HAPPY XMAS, LONG LIVE SOUL. Going by the labels, most of those are going to be pressings / reissues. You need to supply a bit more info - I'd bet this mornings bacon sandwich that your Patti Austin, Manifesto, Tomangoes, Tobi Legend, Rita Dacosta are all pressings for a start and thats without seeing them. If your Epitome Of Sound is the offwhite label, that'll be ok, Joe Tex is original.
Rocky Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) Hi Pete, thanks for the reply. As I said, I'm no expert and all advice helpful. All those you mentioned have number/logo stamps (not scratched) in the run out except 'Manifesto' - did they put put stamps on pressings? Gave many away to friends that I've seen listed for 100's which I don't mindn they were bought for pleasure, I never had profit in mind. Edited December 15, 2007 by Rocky

Yes more or less every record ever made will have some info in the run off. Patti Austin, Tobi Legend, those are easy as they didn't originally come out on those labels. Look for an M in a circle and a triangle followed by a 5 or 6 digit number. If any of the numbers star with 90 or 10, they are reissues (this only applies to the records listed, not legitimate new releases from 74-78)

It should be followed by a Delta & a Number. Obviously any stamp is helpful, if it has a Monarch Stamp the date of press is extremely Accurate. Sometimes the Monarch Stamp isn't very well definined and you are looking for a circle with a hint of the MR visible. On the Rita Dacosta you would be looking for "SELECT SOUND" on an Original. Most have the MR in a circle (Tomangoes has a triagle 99524, Epitome has triangle 99525) but Rita Dacosta has 'Mastering by Frank ?????/Wayne followed by a logo. Presume these are all re-issues then?

Presume these are all re-issues then? It's Frankford Wayne. Tomangoes should be vinyl with moulded label andf have a nashville matrix stamp ijn the run out for it to be an original. Epitome Of Sound, what colour is the label? sounds like a bootleg with that delta number. There is also a three figure stamp underneath the label which you should be able to feel on the original.

You might want to post these in the Ebay Sales Section of the site, here https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showforum=28 If you could post an intro in the intro section, as is customary, that would be grand.

Wow this is a minefield ! You guys certainly know yer onions. Tomangoes does not have a moulded label but does have the MR stamp. Epitome is 'traffic light' green. Does this mean they are worthless?
Chalky Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 depends who is buying the boots. Sold a Tomangos boot on ebay for tidy sum and the buyer was prepared to go much higher. Generally £10/£15.

Here's a >>> LINK <<< to a recent Rita Dacosta thread. That Frankford / Wayne bit Intrigues me. I must go to check the Deadwax of the Originals, I know that SELECT SOUND is there. There is another BOOT which I don't have available to compare.

Any idea what these are worth ? -- JOE TEX - UNDER YOUR POWERFUL LOVE - DIAL VG+ DIFFERENCES - FIVE MINUTES - MON'CA VG++ I've put the latter on ebay for £50 and got a shed load of watchers. No idea of value but couldn't find it on lists so thought might be worth something. I've attached a recording.

Joe Tex around £30 innit?
