How many Gospel tunes have actually had a spin or two on the scene?

A couple to start.

Gonna be a showdown - Rance Allen.

I got the Vibes - Josie Jo Armstead.

Both early plays at February Sams nighter !

Never thought "I Got The Vibes" was really gospel, even though it is on the Gospel Truth label, suppose "More Love" is one that springs to mind by the Gospel Classics. Hard for me to define a gospel sound ?

There's been loads of gospel played in modern rooms over the last few years. The best one recently was Israel & The New Breed - Real. Even stuff like Ann Nesby, Darwin Hobbs, Donna Allen, Kenny Bobien & Be Be Winans are gospel.

Andre Crouch & the Disciples "Christian People" was an early Wigan spin I seem to remember.

"Anyone heard the Salem Travellers version of "wade in the water" halo records?"

If it's the version I'm thinking about you'd need to play it at 78 to get it up to dancing speed and I'm sure it came out on a 78 to begin with.

Whilst the words to Lee Cross are secular Aretha belts out a great gospel tune.

On BBC Radio 2 the other week they had a programme on Gospel music, I'm not sure but I think they were doing a series on religion in music. The music they played was fantastic, goose bumps all over.
