As Top Record Colletion, Soul + Jazz, etc. Shame he was,nt a dancer, ha. Anymore out there.

Saw Budgie at a King Georges Hall night in Blackburn a couple of years ago wearing the same leopard skin 3 peice suit. Had a chat with him about his time at the Wolves, decent bloke. After a few pints his 3 peice became a one peice and he was dancin around like a loon in just the trousers.

In March 2003 I was part of a massive push with US and British forces as we moved in on Iraq's second-largest city Basra.

After days of heavy fighting and some of the most exiting times of my life we broke through and I found my self, along with many others, fortifying The Basra Palace for use as a head quarters.

For a while we all went a bit "mental chicken oriental" smashing the place up like mad men but after a short time we calmed down and took a real look at the Palace.

In one of the bed rooms I found at least three hundred records from Motown to Atlantic and on close inspection I saw Stormy by the Supremes on Whitestorm and the M.V.P's Turning my heartbeat up!

I tried to find out who's records these belonged to and the word on the street was that they belonged to Uday Hussein who is Saddam Hussein's eldest son and a Northernsoul fanatic due to his university time in England.

I asked if I could keep some of the records but it was very much frowned upon to take any thing as we where losing the PR battle and no one wanted to be accused of looting.

Also can't believe that no one has mentioned Tony Blackburn (big fan of anything black music orientated) and used to do a wicked show on 'Real' radio in Leeds. Marc Bolan MUST have been a fan being married to Gloria Jones.

Thats probable. He went to Woking Centre Halls mid/late 70s.

I met him a couple of times & he was a solid bloke.

Quite a few people from Woking made the trip to Wigan.

By 63-64 he'd long stopped being a Mod and was pursuing a musical career.

Jon Moss, later of Culture Club, was a frequent attendee in the early days. Used to come to West Hampstead,was at that niter on the other side of Oxford St (after the New Romantic evening bash,remember that?) and propped the bar up with Shane at 100 Club.(He was drummer for Nips for a while around that time too). He loved the music & vibe, with his initiation being W.Hampstead,totally understandable!

Also does anyone know if Joy Division had any links to the scene I know Richard Searling was involved with them and they used the guitar riff from Keep on Keeping on on an early track.

As an aside I was watching a programme on London last night in the "ITV versus Eastenders" slot and that horrible weird geek that does the tax adverts was warbling on about the 100 Club. Mentioned it's jazz routes and it then having a new lease of life for punk / indie. No mention of it holding northern nights for nearly 30 years typical!

Yes most are just sightings on a night out but Shane, Sean, Steve Davis, some of Primal Scream, Paul Weller and a couple of others are big Northern / soul fans.
