I have no idea if this is true or where I got it from but Mickey Ginn? ex of Coventry City was supposed to have a decent collection - late 70's/early 80's? I may even have read it in a City programme.

Mind you, does playing for Coventry constitute fame?

In this months Q magazine the lead singer states that the NS compilation LP "Out on the floor" as being his all time favourite LP as "Northern Soul might have some sad lyrics but it's inspiring and uplifting music that lefts me evertime" (I'm paraphrasing here).

The lead singer from The Doves is also a big NS fan and there was a full page article on his Northern Top 10 tunes of all time.

I also think that Mark Ronson is a bit of a fan too.

I doubt if any do the scene as such though

what about Mark Lammarr (radio 2 etc),

met him down the 100 club on two occasions during all nighter sessions,at the first time i met him he was going thru' Roger Stewart's Cd sales like a man possessed,no he did'nt buy anything..tight arse.

2nd time also at 100 club, after much harrasment from Teff,he got the beers in only bottles at that time, after a brief chat etc about soul things,we must have bored him stupid off he went, dont think it helped when Teff spilled his bottle on his new coat,,again tight arse did'nt want to pay for the cloakroom..

I dont suppose he count's due to him being into all sorts reggae,Country,etc..

but i dont know her real name, i read somewhere that she is into it Nev honestly whistling.gif thats why she wore that parka with the badges on, apparently a lot of the corrie cast have little clues about things they like in real life that go un noticed to the viewing eye when filming,

i bet someone knows better :D

Wouldn't have spoken to him anyway.......I'd rather go rabbit hunting with Elmer Fudd than spend time with him.

i saw john budgie burridge at bury about 3 years ago. he was wearing a leopard print suit with no shirt. walking round the club all menacing. real character.

onto chris waddle... he is a fan but never did the nighters. for many months i played in the same 8 a side team as waddle a couple of years back. we had a few chats about the scene and he was very interested from a distance. he told me kev roberts sent him a few cd's a few years back. his brother was the bigger fan.

i also told chris i had seen budgie and he had some hilarious stories about him. apparently his missus would watch tv with a bag of oranges on her lap and would throw them across the lounge for budgie to dive and catch. he was like a daft dog apparently and this was well into his retirement from the game! :wicked:

In March 2003 I was part of a massive push with US and British forces as we moved in on Iraq's second-largest city Basra.

After days of heavy fighting and some of the most exiting times of my life we broke through and I found my self, along with many others, fortifying The Basra Palace for use as a head quarters.

For a while we all went a bit "mental chicken oriental" smashing the place up like mad men but after a short time we calmed down and took a real look at the Palace.

In one of the bed rooms I found at least three hundred records from Motown to Atlantic and on close inspection I saw Stormy by the Supremes on Whitestorm and the M.V.P's Turning my heartbeat up!

I tried to find out who's records these belonged to and the word on the street was that they belonged to Uday Hussein who is Saddam Hussein's eldest son and a Northernsoul fanatic due to his university time in England.

I asked if I could keep some of the records but it was very much frowned upon to take any thing as we where losing the PR battle and no one wanted to be accused of looting.

Uday Hussein?!! Really???? Is it April 1st? Bloody hell. That doesn't do much for the soul scene's PR campaign! Hang on a minute.... Eric Knowles, Bill Oddie, Dale Winton and now Uday Hussein. F*ck me, what a scene. I thought of Martin Freeman (Tim out of The Office), who's played some good soul on the radio in London and at Madam Jo Jos, but I feel it's not really worth mentioning it now. Actually right now I don't feel there's really much point in anything.

That would be Mike Pickering ex Hacienda booker/jock, musician, T-Coy and M-People Founder and now A&R man at Sony-BMG. Says he went to the Casino. Also several M.People records are stunningly close to some soul gems e.g. "How Can I Love You More" is similar to "Where Do We Go From Here" - The Trammps and "One Night In Heaven" similar to "Highwire" - Linda Carr & The Love Squad IMHO....

Also, Stuart Maconie on Radio One has waxed lyrical about the Wigan Casino days in his book and I think he is actually from Wigan...........

They're growing by the minute LOL.......

Incredible story LOL!

Did someone on here actually sell the MVP's to Uday Hussein????

I can see it now - 20 dealers immediately pull-out 'sandstorm-damaged' copies of the MVP's and Supremes and claim they were smuggled out of Uday Hussein's 'personal collection'.

The strange world of Northern Soul continues @ pace......
