The journey to Stoke from South Yorkshire back in those days , was not as straightforward as it is today ( to be honest , it was a b*****d ) , and due to one of our party having to collect recreational help for the weekend , we had to make a detour en route , had to wait at the designated rendezous for his contact , which eventually added two hours onto the trip .....

Thankfully we arrived just in time for the opening at 8.30 PM , albeit the queue was virtually up to the chippy at the end of Hose Street ......

Hot , sweaty , cramped , noisy , and highly memorable .....

ML gave it his all , and we , the crowd , responded by giving ours .....

I lost my voice through singing along , much to the amusement of the crowd I went with ......

One of the best bits about the night for me , was Martyn Ellis bounding around like a madman after ML had finished , telling everybody - not that they needed convincing - " how good was that " .....

I posed the question several months ago , when upon commenting that this year would be the 35th anniversary of the recording , what happened to the material that did not make iit onto the album ? ......

I was there that night ( with Mrs B as well) Not in the photo on the LP cover as I was on the stage with Chris Burton, Minshull, Levine, Ellis,Cokell,Day, Otis Leavill etc etc.

Great night - saw him at his first show of the tour in Halifax - bloody useless - the backing group that Contempo had supplied didn't know the songs etc. We got them to listen to them from a Major LP I had with me and things got better. They were the backing track on the LP recorded at the Torch

Still got the LP - The Rhythm of Major Lance - Columbia 1728 signed copy ' To Julian from a friend always Major Lance' + got the Stoke LP as well.

Happy days

So you were the chap that supplied the album for the band to learn the songs from !! .....

As you state Julian , they were not the best band to grace a stage , but thankfully they came through in the end , most of it being so as a result of being involved in the euphoria of the night , which " covered " a multitude of sins ......
