Kev Roberts has asked me to post the following:-

A few words from Goldsoul in the light of the usual frenzied activity where we are concerned. Incidentally, Ian Levine has a new album titled Disco 2008.

A review from Steve G possibly?

When running a business where customers are passionate about their favourite music, it comes as no surprise that social commentary is part of its make-up.

Along with Pontins at Prestatyn, John Manship, Tim Brown's Anglo American, Pat Brady etc etc, we all will encounter extremist views within Northern Soul at some stage....it's the way it is.

Back in the early 70's, did anyone criticize the promoters of that time(Chris Burton, Tony Petherbridge, Terry Samson etc) for having the balls to put 'on a do'.

The difficulty for anyone with extreme views about this subject is, they think that 'dissing old timers' 'oldies only venues' will somehow deliver a better framework for Northern Soul. It clearly does not.

If enthusiasts want to work to the principle of 'underplayed oldies' 'rare unknowns' etc...GREAT. But guys, leave the nostalgia bit to seasoned pros without the hideous hostility.

It serves no purpose, as 2,500 at Blackpool Tower recently, demonstrates, their is something in Northern Soul for everybody.

The quite vile and disgusting comments from Trevor Hare of York 'trevski' , Paul Sadot of 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan' Mr.Darcy , Bigray1 and a small handful of misguided(about KR anyway) individuals clearly turn the majority off. These characters are now creating so many bad vibes, they themselves are receiving awful reputations.

There are many respected DJ's and Dealers who have privately contacted us to voice disgust at these 'Patrons of a Rogue State', citing these outcasts as 'the North Korea of Soul'.

The work put into the scene by us, Richard Searling, the publishers Beatin Rhythm and Be-Cool, Kent Records, Ady Croasdell,

the DJ's who travel hundreds of miles each weekend and most of all the fans who support the scene is immense. Constant digs are a long term turn off-please get the message!

Trevski, actually turns so many off the thought of visiting the Wilton's of this world, that their courageous and inspiring 'up front' music policy is stagnated due to the bad vibes that he and a few instigators applaud. Trev-get your money out and start promoting, record dealing, events abroad, bringing acts to the UK. See how 'easy it is'.

Thank heavens for the Soultown's of this world who simply promote to the best of their ability and deliver a refreshing change at Middleton complete with healthy attendances.

The promoter of this excellent All Nighter applauds larger events and smaller 'feeder' gigs too. Absolutely the correct way to be.

If Goldsoul was devoid of credibility, then why are we pulling healthy numbers to our events?

For the scene's sake...can we all see the big and bigger picture and enjoy the last 40 years of Northern Soul....preferably as nice people.

Thanks and Stay Well.

Yes, very interesting I'm sure.:D

I'm gonna go play some music. THAT's what it's all about.

Oh, and it also passes the time whilst waiting for Bearsy to 'phone..........

I do agree with some of your point's but to name names is a bit low, why not use the pm route to let people know how you feel, and yes i do think some on the scene are trying to dictate as to what should and should'nt be played at venues, but the paying public will decide as to what they want to hear and by whom. And i for one do just that, i have also in the past promoted various soul night's but not on the scale as Goldsoul's and it's such a thankless task, then out of the blue you get some kind word's and it makes it all worthwhile.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL.

Did Trevski (I dont know him or even read the thread this relates to) ask somebody to pass his thoughts on or did he say what he thought himself?

I suspect the latter.

Funny thing, I got talking to a guy from Worksop whist sat having a pint in a bar in Tenerife last Sunday and he told me he actually attended the very first Wigan Casino nighter and he mentioned 'Scooby Doo', and how little respect Scooby Doo had amongst the 'professionals' on the scene.

Now some of you will wonder what I'm on about, but I can tell you that the above paragraph is relevant to this thread.

In conclusion, if thas got owt to seh, say it thee sen, or shut the fcuk up.

Just the same old same old IMO.

Been done to death more than once and surely will be repeated in the future.

All down to choice, attend venues what you want to attend.

I just can't understand what the point of this thread is.

I have no issue with anyones right to reply but this is hardly new or original.

Incidentally, should this have been posted as a reply under the '500 top NS records' book launch thread? It would have made more sense there.

Last time, me & Kev spoke on here on the Whitby thread he promised that he would come back to us after the court case, surely thats finished now, am sure quite a few on here would like to know the answers

 come on Aardvark-samm,simple question....Mr Roberts gets flack because of his actions/words with regards to Whitby...Many paying punters would just like to know what the score is after the court case...Leave out the spin and just give us some facts...This question will never go away and quite a few of my friends who put money in your coffers want it cleared up...Yes paying customers to a Goldsoul event..

Just read this thread. :D  Cosider this:

KR=Millionaire, big buisness man, megga promoter, radio personality, author, record dealer, etc, etc.

Trevski=nobody, in the big scheme of things.

So why is he so bothered about what I say about his empire? I certainly arn't bothered about what he has said, regarding me! So much so that If any promoters of venues I attend ie; Wilton, (to which I am causing particular damage, according to KR) think I am having a detrimental effect, or anyone running a venue at which I am playing, Hull, Wakefield, Cleckheaton, York, etc, Please let me know, either on here, or by PM, and I will not attend.

KR sites:

There are many respected DJ's and Dealers who have privately contacted us to voice disgust at these 'Patrons of a Rogue State', citing these outcasts as 'the North Korea of Soul'.

The work put into the scene by us, Richard Searling, the publishers Beatin Rhythm and Be-Cool, Kent Records, Ady Croasdell,

the DJ's who travel hundreds of miles each weekend and most of all the fans who support the scene is immense. Constant digs are a long term turn off-please get the message!

I have also recieved many PM's etc from people supporting what I have said.

Outcasts? By who? see my above statement. I'm prepared to put my neck on the block. Let's see how outcast I am.

Listing Richard, Adey, Jm,TB and others as some sort of support or legitimisastion doesn't work

I have never criticised any of them, and in fact have praised Adey for doing things the right way.

I have criticised KR for his exploitation of the scene and it's followers, for his own gain. I don't believe he does any of it for 'love of the scene' or 'love of soul music' I belive he does it purely for the love of KR's bank balance and ego.

Because of this he labels me an 'outcast'. I'm cerainly not an outcast from anything he is associated with, as to be out-cast, on has to attend something to be cast out of, and I would never attend any of his venues.

Again I ask KR, why doe's anything I have to say bother the mighty KR empire?

Is it so fragile that one little voice threatens its stability?

KR's response to 'one little voice' reminds me somewhat of this:

In the early summer of 1942, a group of young men — including Willi Graf, Christoph Probst and Hans Scholl — co-authored six anti-Nazi Third Reich political resistance leaflets. Calling themselves the White Rose, they instructed Germans to passively resist the Nazis.

Contrary to popular belief, Sophie Scholl was not a co-author of the articles. Her brother had been initially keen to keep her ignorant of their activities, but once she discovered his activities, she joined him and proved invaluable to the group: as a female, her chances of being randomly stopped by the SS were much smaller. She and rest of the White Rose were arrested for distributing the sixth leaflet at the University of Munich on February 18, 1943.

In the People's Court before the notorious Judge Roland Freisler on February 21, 1943, Scholl was recorded as saying "Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just do not dare express themselves as we did."

On February 22, 1943, Sophie Scholl, her brother Hans and their friend Christoph Probst were found guilty of treason and condemned to death. They were all beheaded by executioner Johann Reichhart in Munich's Stadelheim Prison only a few hours later at 17:00. Her last words were "Die Sonne scheint noch"—"The sun still shines."

What possible threat were they to the Third Reich? About as much as I am to KR, but any voice of opposition is one too many, it seems!

That's very interesting, I've never heard of much German resistance and couldn't believe a whole nation would be going along with such disgusting behaviour in their name. it's heartening to know this happened and I wonder how other German resistance to Naziism manifested itself; the communists etc were presumably purged.

s to the thread was it in response to something specific or some sort of controversial ploy to promote the re-hash of that book? I've not seen the original but thought it was a good way of making a few bob, I wish I'd thought of it. Those quotes from punters were incredible though; 500 different ways of saying nothing.

could have been worse Pete, comment could have been used on the Carstairs no.gif
