Anyone have a discography for this label? There seems to be so much stuff. Thanks in advance.

Sorry don´t have a complete discography, but I agree there were many interesting releases on that label.

Will Ferrell formed Chelsea Records and the subsidiary label Roxbury in the early 70´s, both labels folded after only a few years, in 1976. Farrell sadly passed in 1996.

Most of the stuff put out by Ferrell on the Chelsea and Roxbury labels were picked up from other producers, mastertapes from external sources, not many self-made productions.

Some of the artists recording for the Roxbury label: Dee Clark, Jean Knight, William DeVaughn, Jim Gilstrap, Big Dee Irwin, Ujima, The Honeybees, Rick Springfield, Marion Jarvis, Fessor Funk & His Queens 8th Street Funk Band, Interstate 95, Curly Moore, Chuck Higgins, Glen Burton Experience, Jack Stack, Slim & Funky Four, Sister Gail Anderson, Ronnie Williams, Linda Carr, Paul Karas, Thomas Harris, Alex Brown, Rick Mango, Funkhouse Express, + VA-LP The Bitter End Years, or Live At The Bitter End featuring Carly Simon, Arlo Guthrie, Jerry Jeff Walker, Van Morrision, Curtis Mayfield, Melanie, Bette Midler, James Taylor, John Sebastion, Isley Brothers, John Denver.

Lots of brilliant stuff also on Chelsea, for instance albums by the New York City, Charles Brimmer etc. Will have to dig out some of them now.

Best,

Melismo

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it, that fills in most of the details for me. The william devaughn had to be the first thing on the label (and probably the biggest hit on the label), blood is thicker than water was his follow up. I think the fessor funk came first too.

Flip of the curly moore is pt. 2

Thanks,

Bob

Thanks, I didn't realize it was connected to chelsea. I collect 45s, I think there are fewer interesting 45s on Chelsea as on Roxbury. Thanks.

nice label design and i lobe Alex Brown's version of Love Really Hurts Without You on it

Yes, except the LP's on the Chelsea and Roxbury labels are, in a sense, far more interesting than the 45's !!!

Take the Ron Henderson/Choice of Colour and Toby Kang LP's for example ... brilliant LP only dancers on them ...

But of course, as is so often said on here, so many Northern collectors simply close their eyes when it comes to LP's.

LP's still remain the great untapped source for undiscovered dance tunes ..

2037 Funkhouse Express - "Chase your blues away Pt.1/Pt.2"

This is superb! Goes very well together with Bileo's "You Can Win" tempo-wise. :D It still seems to be played covered-up on the current underground disco scene as First Family "That's Love" - it was even released on the "Disco Demands Part Three" compilation under this name. :D

I thought your cover up was supposed to be a record that didn't exist? Because someone can go buy the first family "that's love" on washington sound and end up with a record at a totally different tempo (although a nice record).

Funkhouse express "day by day" on polydor is an excellent sweet soul record.

Weird, huh? I was only playing "Give the little man a great big hand" to myself last night (first time I've heard it in years), and trying to remember where it figured timewise in De Vaughn's releases!

Spooky that Jerry.

I used to LOVE the track as a new LP release, then one morning, about a month ago, I woke up and started singing it, in the Bathroom (like you do - well where else would a little man need a great big hand?) and thought BLIMEY..... I bet that sounds awesome now!

Couldn't put my hands on the LP though... but picked up a lovely WD 45 the very next day!

Crackin' little choon!
