Dave Thorley Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Dave was the Tony thing Mood Mosaic? No, some 60's pop instrumental. Pete Smith is your man he just seems to know these things. I was to young for this when it was first played, but as I remeber it, it was the Mood Mosaic version first played. But then some peeps realised there was the other version and it was easier to get, so it was played as well.

ImberBoy Posted November 25, 2007 Author Posted November 25, 2007 MOOD MOSAIC "A Touch Of Velvet, A Sting Of Brass" (one time Dave Lee Travis Radio Caroline Theme tune, and also the theme from Germany's "Beat Club" TV show) Dave Lee Travis "DLT," as he was known, joined Caroline South in September 1965 where he took over the Lunchtime Show and became "your dinner spinner." His show started with the sound of Big Ben chiming followed by A Touch Of Velvet, A Sting Of Brass by Mood Mosaic. Still need to know were "Second city sound" fits in?

Alan Pollard Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Tony Blackburn's breakfast show theme music was 'Beefeaters' by Johnny Dankworth, I also remember 'The Penguin Breakdown' being used as someones theme music in the early 70t's but which DJ was it who used it, I'm almost certain it was a breakfast show. Regards Alan
ImberBoy Posted November 25, 2007 Author Posted November 25, 2007 'The Penguin Breakdown' kin brilliant.............. my bessy mate plays this every time he phones me!!!! Luvs it
Rugby Soul Club Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Am I the only one who remembers Chris Tarrant using it in one of his TV programmes. 45cellar Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 (edited) Surely it the Hairy Monster Dave Lee Travis's theme wasn't it? Ian D Theme Tune from The German TV >>> BEAT CLUB <<< on which Dave Lee Travis was one of the Hosts. Somewhere between Show 8 & 45 If you click on the story part 2. You can also listen to the Theme Tune. by Mood Mosaic, on the first page. I have the Second City Sound on Major Minor which was from a Bargain Bin outside a Shop in Doncaster. They were Nearly all the Major Minor Label in the Bargain Bin. & at the time in the 70's I only Managed a Columbia Re-Issue of Mood Mosaic. I'll have to dig my copies out for another listen. Dave Thorley Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 (edited) nah all wrong johnny walker kev See the internet 'DJ's theme music' site. They give it to Dave Lee Travis as well, link is back in this tread JOHNNIE WALKER (Caroline South & International) BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUNG - Duane Eddy London HLW9162 (1960) The track also features on the CD's The Veronica Story and We Love the Pirate Stations, details as previous. Also used as a theme by Frank van der Mast. Edited November 26, 2007 by Dave Thorley
Pete S Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 There's a third version of A Touch Of Velvet by Sounds Orchestral on Pye or Piccadilly. I'm with you all in remembering it from the radio (I thought it was Radio Luxemburg!) but it was never a Wigan 'top' sound in the true sense of the word, it was played by Dave Evison in his oldies spot and got reactivated because of that and even bootlegged.
Citizen P Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 The Second City Sound -first found fame on Opportunity Knocks ATB Tony
spot Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 'The Penguin Breakdown' kin brilliant.............. my bessy mate plays this every time he phones me!!!! Luvs it Simon, See the avatar's not changed but like you said to me at Middleton it makes people stop you to ask if it's you, so you meet new people all the time, also it frightens old ladies & keeps kids away from open fires . Sorry gone off at a tangent as usual, get your mate to play you the flip of "Penguin Breakdown" that just as good & the main reason I rang, t'was the "Mood Mosiac's" that I remember being played & seem to remember it played at Cleethorpes a lot, no doubt it will have originated from another venue but thats what I remember from early/mid 70's, which is quite good cos I can't remember much more from that decade .Remember "Sounds Orchestra" version on Pye Int being issued but both other versions we're just copies IMVHO. See you out & about but not Earl till next year, take care & be safe, Spot. ps. Gail (wife) says thanks for the compliment (attractive lady stopped me on stairs & asked was I Imberboy?) in your last Earl of Donny comment.

Yours Imberboy and yes I am keeping the "Axe Murderer" picture lol. Pete Smith, Pete can you help with the two music clips or even the three??
Paul R Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Just to add my 2 pen'th(or what ever!). It was definately DLT for Mood Mosaic. Also Stuart henry used the start of "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"(A side of "Quitter") Williams & Watson as a type of Jingle. OR was it Rosco? Who was it that used "All For You" Earl Van Dyke? Possibly Johnnie Walker. Paul

Godzilla Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Didn't the Marketts do it as well? Yeah, I think it has a belting version of The Avengers theme as the A side if memory serves
Godzilla Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I have - writing credit is J. Ferdy. The Mood Mosaic version is arranged and produced by Mark Wirtz. Mark Wirtz - the man behind Excerpt from a Teenage Opera ("Grocer Jack" for those old enough to remember) credited to singer Keith West. Wirtz was a bit of an oddball French pop genius and the whole Teenage Opera project was ditched by EMI. I think it was to do with budget constraints and the follow up single not doing as well as "Excerpt...". Damn fantastic arranger in my book Godz
Guest paulf Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 (edited) ...... Can any one sling the two versions up on here so we can compare? I am really surprised that no one actually ever mixed all 3 versions subtly together at the height of Imber. I always like mixing Jackie Edwards with Wynder K Frog or is it the other way round. Obviously less subtle inst into vocal. What a Mod Mosiac mix work on the 45? What other subtle DJ mixes are out there? I have a new Accountant just started working for me last week. Apparently grew up with Ian Levine. Edited November 27, 2007 by paulf

Has all the grocer jack trademarks but a bit more of an edge to it as well as numerous weird special effects, a fabulous piece of late 60's psych/whimsy...
