May sound a silly question but does anyone know if the system used at The Casino was hooked up for stereo sound?

I say so, as I'm sure the only thing that got played that made my ears prick up was King Tutt, as the sound seemed to wander across both speakers (on the shingly sound in the background on the main break) but I may have been slightly mad at the time. yes.gif

Was I dreaming or was it obviously stereo and I never noticed?

Not sure about the hook up at the Casino but King Tutt does "wander" back and forth on the left and right speakers on the "bells" (shingly) bits which I only picked upon and noticed the first time when it was played at home.... never noticed it myself at the Casino as tended to always be on the left hand side of the room and floor....

Would suggest that if you were towards the middle of the floor and heard King Tutt play like that then it probably was hooked up for stereo....

The best person to ask about the sound system at the Casino would be Russ Winstanley .....

Russ was initially involved in providing the equipment for the all - nighters , as this was , as you will recall from the original advertisments , " provided by Russ' Everysound Disco " ......

Ta! :D

My Wigan 'seating' spec was under the stairs to the right hand side of the stage - dancing spec, in front-ish (depending on how busy it was) of the right hand speaker.

Who cares, :D You seem to have an obsession with wigan, as someone quite rightly said on Soul Source many moons ago "IT'S A CAR PARK, GET OVER IT"

Chrissie, I apologise for eulogising over a period in my life that I enjoyed - I also attended Rotherham Clifton Hall, Leicester Oddfellows, Hinckley Leisure Center, Leighton Buzzard, Samanthas, 100's Club, Morecambe - Da Di Da Di Da and so on and so forth....I know it's early (or late for some of us) but try and be positive mate - I'm not hear to annoy, just to remind myself why, at 43, I still bother to post to people I think (obviously sometimes incorrectly) may give a shit.

PM me mate, save your fingers.

If you are only 43 and love the old days so much, I feel sorry for you cos you missed the years when wigan was great 73-75 after that it lost the plot musically.

Why PM, I have no problems with airing my opinions on an open forum. Thats what soul source is about it there for us to discuss our opinions. If you read through all my posts on the wigan and KR threads I have not gone down the "slag off" route or "name calling" just stated fact.

I'm sure Chrissie if you had met me socially, you'd like me - as it is right now, I'll just leave you to dislike me form afar.

Respect and good wishes.

I don't dislike you, I even like some people who like "modern". Just cos I don't agree doesn't mean I don't like you.

All it is mate, there's a place for good old laddish musical flippancy.

Personally I'm long enough in the tooth to understand that I don't have THE defining line that gives me the right to say that I am right.

Whatever we are talking about.

I'm big enough to admit that, to you, you are right and I will always be wrong, and I will make inroads into holding back my memories of this scene if it causes you that much trouble - honestly, I will.

But to call somebody a C**T on a message board in full view of the world - I think you need to step back and re-evaluate exactly what you have done for this scene.

Again, with respect.

GOOD YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE :D

The C Word is a word I never use either on here or verbally so you must be mixing me up with someone else

Again, with respect.

and as to what I have done for the scene, quite simply NOTHING, I have just enjoyed it and taken what I can get from it and I have no problem with that.

Mind you I am the founder of the new genre that is Mamsey Pamsey, maybe they will write about me in years to come :(

I love going fishing on a sunday when all the fish are half asleep after saturday night one of them always bites :D

Joking apart, I can't comment on the later years as I had moved down south in early 76 and really couldn't find the inspiration anymore to travel all the way up to wigan for the type of music they were playing at the time. All just my opinion of course thumbsup.gif

:D Fell for that one

I first went to Wigan in 76 so can't comment on the earlier years.I must say that I hardly bothered with the Casino between 77 & 79 though as in my opinion the better stuff was getting played elsewhere (as a previous poster mentiones St Ives,Cleethorpes,Yate,Sheffield more fun). When Mr Searling unleashed his 79/80/81 playlists on us it went right back to the top of the tree music wise though.IMO .

It is unlikely that the sound system at The casino was set up in stereo. Most Club systems were mono thus ensuring that most dancers heard the sound properly rather than those on the left hearing the rhythm section and those on the right the brass section. EMperor Rosko who used a well regarded Orange system in his road show claimed he could use it to "fake " stereo and "chase " sounds" from left to right. I'm taking a guess here but her probably fed the left and right stereo signals into amps that fed speakers on both stage left and right. Some early stereo singles (69 -73) had a wide stereo field which was OK in a living room but would be lost on a crowd in a hall. Most dance oriented singles today are almost mono in that there is very little difference between what is on the left and right channels.

Over to you Russ.
