Alamo
Hi All, One of the allnight venues of the early 80's I think. I Went there once and wondered how long it ran for and who promoted it. Great venue. Even better if someone had some pics of it to post up. Its such a distant memory but would love for someone to refresh the old grey matter please. regards - Ali Link to comment Social source share

Shocking but a load of us came up from Kent, only to find it empty. So we had to get some staff train back to St Pancras at about 3 am. There were several of them promoted by Ken Cox EASC I seem to recall. Always a big crowd there, most memorable ones for me was when Nev Wherry was DJing but best of all when Sam was on playing all the big Wigan 70's - Love committee cover up, Top Cat etc. It go me to go back to Wigan after a two year absence. Got my Ronnie McNeir there for £10 as well. So a good event in my books. Did a write up in The Northern Line (forerunner to Blackbeat) will try and find it. 1980 I think? My diary tells me it was on friday nights, we started to go there after Yate finished up (before the last re-vamp) then as Yate it was every two weeks, diary shows febuary 29th 1980, continued to go every two weeks thereafter, seem to remember being there when there was a a minutes silence for Nev Wherry. Guest martyn
Went to all of them-I remember a particularly messy night that involved a pre-nighter Chinese rounded of with coffee & slimming pills, with some of the regular punters & DJs there .....Anyone else at the restaurant come on here ? Guest SteveC
Was there too and agreed that its one of the venues that I too vividly remember - As for what Sam played etc etc I wouldn't have a clue - I usually went in, chucked my bag down, danced for 8 odd hours and then went home - oh how i wish i could do that now. Ian Clark had his record box in a shopping trolley wheeling it down the High St - I think Jerry Hipkiss can remember more than I can....Nev Wherry was djing along with Sam but for the life of me, I can't remember anything about it apart from eating tomato soup and white sliced bread somewhere in the morning....it's all a long time ago Jo Link to comment Social source share

Ian Clark had his record box in a shopping trolley wheeling it down the High St Oh fantastic I'd forgotten about that....old Ian never missed a trick - seem to recall we went the 'long way' from the station to the club too! Still a shopping trolley was better than the time we went to St ALbans fire station (Mick's do), and Kim had his 600 sales box which we all (including you I think - but cannot remember) had to have a go at lugging on the 2 mile march from the station to the venue. paup-ine
I remember going April 1980. Me, Sue Ready, Andrew & Johnny Watkins & Jerry Hipkiss. I fell out with my fiance over it because I went without him! Had a tape from that night, and only last night did it break in the tape player. Any ideas how we can put taped stuff onto CD or something. It was a great venue, but it was the only time I went. Link to comment Social source share

Yeah, they did come unstuck that night .Not often they did though, they were quite a mob on their day ,living in the same town could be quite 'challenging'.The few that were into soul were sound, but life was very uncomfortable for them in the aftermath from both sides. Best Kimbo All right Kimbo, how are you I am tall dark haired and have been know to pull a face when zonked, though I thought Rug could do one to beat mine but the harborough thing is not familiar?,that would be Mick stewert you are on about I take it ,Glens brother who used to go in the early days ,Market Harborough the Lantern ,bletsoe etc, really liked the wellingborough lads always up for it .I was gutted to hear Mick Had died I heard a rumour years back but didnt want to believe it(I have lived in Peterborough for a good few years now)however recently found out it was true.I know Will Hey from years back but didnt go round with him Bob Bar was originally from kettering but I ran into him a couple of years back up the town here where he had moved to.As for Brillo ,never liked him( the feeling is totaly mutual) and never got on ,just one of those things he werent really part of our group(In such cases just do what the Bells suggest",dont pretend", just stay with your own) ,I know Rug thought the same as me on that though would pass the time of day with him i wouldnt but he has his many supporters. I know well what Wilky made of him as I was tight with Wilky and Rug as we used to spend a lot of time together through the week.Badly miss Wilky and Rug the best all dayers were at Wilkys house putting on sounds in his room, the best sounds and the best gear about in the area, Soul Sam and Brian Rae would often turn up and Wilkys mum knew them all by first name(TRUE) also ,incredible times.Going back to brillo he would never of mixed with us at all nighters he had his own people last time I saw him He was trying to stick his nose in when I punched Ricky Curryfor trying to jump me in the bogs of the Swan when I was out for a drink with my ex mrs and the two young at the time kids, probably disapointed because his buddy come off worst. Each to his own,I think that may well have been me at the North Park as when I finished my sentence at Stafford for canteens got out and stated doing them again more or less straight away.Vernon was a nice lad from Kettering(sarahs brother)and stina both sadly no longer with us.Last time I saw vernon was fooking years ago ,he turned up at my house in Rothwell with Snotty and Lenny with the contents of a dda (this was after we all stopped going to allnighters dont know what brillos crowd were doing?)Lenny and Vernnon had been doing a canteen and had difficulty of some sort so they went and threw stones at snottys window and asked him to come and help them which of course Mick did so they ended up knocking my door at about five in the morning with my ex going whose that and starting to moan until she saw it was Snotty and what theyd brought with them.!On another occasion at that same house two lads I knew from Corby were over on a pub crawl niether took gear but theyd robbed the local chemist because it sold wine, while in there one of them remembered what I had told him a few weeks before when he was round my house and so there with them on the floor outside my door was a dda cabinet(first one I had seen taken off the wall ,they were usualyy fitted with big bolts into concrete and much easier to open on site,or so I have been told?) ,nice one lads.Happy with the wine and fags(yes fags )they had got they gave me the gear all they wanted was to try the coke ,which they did each making lines about fitreen inches long that they rattled up their noses.Oh it was snowing like hell at the time and this being a rural setting I was concerned about footprints leading to my door and indeed there was a trail but thankfully it ended up covered over.Sorry for the diversion ,yes the Pulto indeed is a pub to be reckoned with as are most Corby pubs but I reckon the Coritnhian took the biscuit back in the day, even now to this day it has only got a licencse to open till 6pm and thts with it being a town centre pub,due to the violence and misdeeds that used to go on ,a copper getting thrown over a balcony down into the bus station being one such incidentBack in the day of the original Corby canteen openers such as Passy,John Boyd(great lad )and Brian taylor, all older than me it was even more dodgy loads of Corby lads used to go to places like Bletsoe,Market harboro etc and you wouldnt class many of them as pacifists.I believe in those days quite a lot of the old Manchester firm would come down and got on well with the Corby crew of the time.Oh if you lived near Wellingborough you will remember a pub Mick Gavin and co used called the Drum and Monkey where people literaly swung on the chandeliers in the place.Only went there with them a few times but a good laugh.Ah what times we had! an era of peace and love ,everybody smiling and holding hands , Edited April 28, 2012 by manusf3a Link to comment Social source share

Each to his own,I think that may well have been me at the North Park as when I finished my sentence at Stafford for canteens got out and stated doing them again more or less straight away.Vernon was a nice lad from Kettering(sarahs brother)and stina both sadly no longer with us.Last time I saw vernon was fooking years ago ,he turned up at my house in Rothwell with Snotty and Lenny with the contents of a dda (this was after we all stopped going to allnighters dont know what brillos crowd were doing?)Lenny and Vernnon had been doing a canteen and had difficulty of some sort so they went and threw stones at snottys window and asked him to come and help them which of course Mick did so they ended up knocking my door at about five in the morning withmy ex going whose that and starting to moan until she saw and was Snotty and what theyd brought with them.!On another occasion at that same house two lads I knew from Corby were over on a pub crawl niether took gear but theyd robbed the local chemist because it sold wine, while in there one of them remembered what I had told him a few weeks before and so there with them on the floor outside my door was a dda cabinet ,nice one lads.Happy with the wine and fags(yes fags )they had got they gave me the gear all they wanted was to try the coke ,which they did each making lines about fitreen inches long that they rattled up their noses.Oh it was snowing like hell at the time and this being a rural setting I was concerned about footprints leading to my door and indeed there was a trail but thankfully it ended up covered over.Sorry for the diversion ,yes the Pulto indeed is a pub to be reckoned with as are most Corby pubs but I reckon the Coritnhian took the biscuit back in the day, even now to this day it has only got a licencse to open till 6pm and it being a town centre pub,due to the violence and misdeeds that used to go on ,a copper getting thrown over a balcony down into the bus station being one such incidentBack in the day of the original Corby canteen openers such as Passy,John Boyd(great lad )and Brian taylor, all older than me it was even more dodgy loads of Corby lads used to go to places like Bletsoe,Market harboro etc and you wouldnt class many of them as pacifists.I believe in those days quite a lot of the old Manchester firm would come down and got on well with the Corby crew of the time.Oh if you lived near Wellingborough you will remember a pub Mick Gavin and co used called the Drum and Monkey where people literaly swung on the chandeliers in the place.Only went there with them a few times but a good laugh.Ah what times we had! an era of peace and love ,everybody smiling and holding hands , Yep new the drum and Monkey. Stina, Morris N. Glen Smith, john Anderson. Didn't know snotty but read a thead from Tez accounting the time lightning and his mate tried to turn over Wilky and snotty and came off a lot worse. Yep mick stewart and pete nimmo proper wellingbro lived up Dullys av. Glen still about but not looking good taking the same route as mick by all accounts. I know Paul Donnelly frpm p bro usually get an invite to his birthday soul nite. Heard back in the day that Wilky had to disapear as he had a contract on him (don't know how true) but he did turn up at a north park reunion, a lot older as we all are. Still see Stevie Evans from time to time round my mates house in the village. What about Johnny King from Northampton> Link to comment Social source share

Still see Stevie Evans from time to time round my mates house in the village. What about Johnny King from Northampton> Sorry to say mate but Johnny r.i.p was killed imo and a lot of other folks ,in the police cells in Northampton,Im sure I have this right as its a long time ago now,he ended up with horrific head injuries that resulted in his death.I for one do not think he bashed his own head against the wall.It was well known that both branches ,plod and the squad hated johnny.I hope ive got the gist of it rightI knew him to speak to but not really welll but know he had lots of bottle and liked chemists after hours.Little Pete Bradbury was another good lad from that way.I am really sorry to hear about Glen but Ive survived thirty years of the same and come through it so theres always hope.Say hello toSteve Evans for me when you see him he used to like his gear as we all did)back in the day. There was also little (then anyway)Pete Salmon lived near Glen ,if you see him ask him what happened the first time I went round his house with Gav r.i.p concerning the chemist at the back of his house on Kingsway(its a good story wont go into detail on here)In fact say hello to Glen for me to. .Thats intriquing what you say about wilky ,I did see him off and on for some years after he quit the scene and moved to Bournemouth where he as far as i was aware was doing spectaculary well and had a son with a local girl that he was bringing up even though they had split. However I do know a lot more that I cant talk about and maybe it could be something to do with these things thinking of it if its true I do know what it will be about.A contract you say!I havent seen him for many years since but he did at one time come back to Corby now and again to visit, silver tounged and if he fell in shit he would come up smelling of roses and an absolutely brilliant bloke , fooking hell though, a contract you say ,I hope if so his usual luck holds out. Tez werent no slouch either by the way! You know I havent been to any soul nights or anything like it for many years now as I have gone a different route and different(well some of them )folk but I am looking forward to getting to a few places,What could be strange is probably not knowing even one record played but when I first stated going I hardly(apart from a few)knew the records then?
