Daz Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I ONCE THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS A RARE 45 THE LAST TWO IVE SEEN OVER THE LAST SIX WEEKS OR SO HAVE JUST ABOUT MADE £200, THERE IS ANOTHER ON EBAY NOW (MAYBE MORE?) YOU SEE THIS ALLTHE TIME ON SALES LIST IN THE U.K. AND ON EBAY. IS SOMEBODY SITTING ON A BATCH OF THESE? NOT AS RARE AS ONCE THOUGHT I BELIEVE. SEE IT ON LISTS FOR £600 A CRAZY PRICE IMO. DAZ
Ernie Andrews Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) was nearly a 4 figure sum then copies turned up & it became a £500 job but your right even more copies surfacing which backs up what Ive been saying all along - Nobody knows how many are out there of anything. It could be theres just as many copies of some £50 record eg Nolan Porter. Great record though Edited November 21, 2007 by Ernie Andrews
Guest taffy Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 THERE'S A GUY IN MINNEAPOLIS SITTING ON A LOAD OF THESE,NOT SURE HOW MANY THOUGH.
Tsu Tomatoes Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 You beat me to it Taffy. He had one 25 box, possibly more. A similar story with the guy in Texas who found a box of Satin - Your love's got me. When these sort of records turn up in numbers, the price does drop for a while. In my experience they generally go up again. Remember the Curtis Anderson's from about 2 years back??
Chalky Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 25 count is bugger all in the grand scheme of things, still very rare. But who really knows haow many there are. The little batch a while ago was a 25ish count and more since since been up for offer They will soon disappear and then you won't be able to by one for love nor money, well not £200 anyway

YES MATE SAW A CURTIS RECENTLY BACK UP AROUND £500.ALWAYS A PANIC WHEN A UNKNOWN QUANTITY ARE KNOWN.I REMEMBER WHEN ME AND MICK SMITH HAD 4 25 COUNT BOXES OF ELLUSIONS,WE STRUGGLED TO GET £6 EACH ON THE LAST BOX AND THAT WAS LATE 80'S Edited November 21, 2007 by taffy

Simon M Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I think Poke had one too ? and Gary S maybe
Steve G Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I dont think Robin had one .. ..Soul Sam played it 1983ish at Stafford not sure about Wigan Sam had it a lot earlier than that Simon, and I do think (but cannot remember for sure) that Searling had it as well. Would have been 81-2 so might have been Clifton Hall.

Steve G Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I think Poke had one too ? and Gary S maybe Yes he would have done - he was very high up on the Soul Bowl "pecking order" back then.
Simon M Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Yes he would have done - he was very high up on the Soul Bowl "pecking order" back then. he first played that dodgey King Moses record I reckon not JV
Robin S Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I never owned one - I may have borrowed one for a couple of months but can't remember now. This was a big Poke record originally at Cleethorpes circa '82. It always reminds me of there - not sure if he had it at Clifton Hall or not but I don't think so. Yes it was "Merlin and the Magicians" C/U.!
Steve G Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 he first played that dodgey King Moses record I reckon not JV God who knows.....Vincent had it at one time for a bit, but it's like an old tart, been had by most of the DJ's at one time or another
Simon M Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 God who knows.....Vincent had it at one time for a bit, but it's like an old tart, been had by most of the DJ's at one time or another well I know where the Poke copy went around to ,but Im not sure JV ever had it ? Steve G Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 well I know where the Poke copy went around to ,but Im not sure JV ever had it ? Love to hear the other side Steve !! You might be right, he's had more comebacks than a swing door T'other side is fabulous deep soul. Will play it on Mick O'donnell's show when I am on it next year.

Yes it was "Merlin and the Magicians" C/U.! Correct Robin, along with High Bointon. I'll post up his spot playing it later. I think his copy went to Adam which I have now, complete with sellotape marks in the run out from being cover up. Steve Hanbury also had a copy, off D Raistrick. Rob Smith also had a copy, but it was knackered, I think Carl Fornum ended up with it.

Sam had it too as did Richard, and I think Arthur as well. Did any of the S Yorks mafia ever get it (steve mannion etc)? Edited November 21, 2007 by Steve G
Mark R Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Great story on this 45......sure we've talked about this before..............but this was an early incarnation of Jimmy Jam (of Jam & Lewis fame).......MEGA 80's/90's producer.......note the credits...........written by James Harris III (aka Jimmy Jam). Love stories like that! A record I thought I would never own..............now nestling nicely Cheers, Mark R

TheBigO Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 THERE'S A GUY IN MINNEAPOLIS SITTING ON A LOAD OF THESE,NOT SURE HOW MANY THOUGH. Not the one I brought back though Taff as you now have that!!! Yep, he had more than 25 as I saw the box some years back whilst going thru the racks. I have a feeling there are quite a lot of these out there.
