Mike Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 latest news and info from the southern soul movement Phew Loads happening in the next few months - some of which are unprecedented as you'll discover shortly. Here goes: 1. Tomorrow night The South Coast Soul Club hold a Soul Night at Eastbourne Town Hall with guests Sean Chapman and Steve Csordas. The night runs from 7-midnight and the venue has got to be one of the best (if not the best) on the South Coast. For all you dancers the floor is immaculate and no talc is required (some fool will still put some down just to be trendy!). A reminder that this is a no smoking event but with a outside smoking staircase adjacent to the dancefloor. Further details can be found at https://www.uskke.org/soulclub/ 2. Easter weekend sees a fine array of Rare Soul events. Good Friday Worthing (for further details https://www.worthingsoulclub.co.uk/) . Saturday Lightwater soul night. Sunday Volks Tavern all dayer,Brighton (for further details contact Simon simon.soul@btinternet.com . Don't forget The New Century All-Niter at the Rocket, Holloway that night, part of the Mod Weekender with the country's top DJ's in attendance (further details of this event and all other New Century happenings can be found at https://www.newcenturysoul.co.uk/ 3. Abroad now. On April 9th The Black Trefoil Soul Club Genova hold an all-niter in........you guessed it Genova, Italy. Please see attached flier for details. Guests for the night include a plethora of fine Italian DJ's and Southern Soul Movements own Steve Csordas. Ryan Air flights can still be obtained at a reasonable price and I will be happy to recommend hotels if required. Further details can be found at https://www.blacktrefoil.tk/ 4. The award winning play 'Once Upon A Time In Wigan' will be showing at The New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth between 26 & 30 April. For further details phone the box office on 02392 649000. For those of you who did not see it during it's maiden tour last year the play is a glorious, loving celebration of what it was like to actually be there at the legendary Wigan Casino. Bathed in wit and pathos but most of all priceless Northern Soul classics, the show charts the birth of modern all night rave and dance culture, the death of the old industries, the old certainties..........a time to come of age and face up to the real world. This years tour includes the actor from "Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps". Unfortunately his name escapes me. Further details can be found at https://www.onceuponatimeinwigan.com/news.html 5. A massive event on the South Coast. Never has been and never will be I hear you cry. Wrong. On April 30 to celebrate the last night of the play 'Once upon a time in Wigan' part of the Breakaway, New Century & Cool Off promotions team will be hosting a Wigan Casino Oldies night at The Glasshouse, Pyramids Centre, Southsea Sea front, Portsmouth. DJ's for the night will be Guy Hennigan, Paul Sadot (director of the play), Steve C (Southern Soul Movement), Derek Mead (Nightshift) and Molly (Solent Soul Club). Special guest and original Casino DJ, Brian Rae will also be spinning those classic sounds. The night runs from 8-2 and admission is £10 for this very special event. Each stop on the plays tour around the country will be holding a big event after the last night of the play so let's show the rest of the country what a turn out the South can come up with. This is expected to be a sell out and details of ticket sales will be forthcoming however the venue can hold up to 600 and a full house is expected. This will be a highly publicised event with the media showing great interest, and as is customary, the actors, directors, writers and all staff associated with the play will be at hand. 6. Another big event taking place on Sep 3 is The South Coast Summer All-Dayer. This first will be run by the 8 Soul Clubs that hold events on the South Coast between Eastbourne and Poole. The two room event will take place at The Abshot Country Club, Little Abshot Road, Titchfield Common, near Fareham. The day will run from 3pm through till 2am Sunday morning and as well as Molly, Gary Todd, Stu (Eastbourne), Steve Woolston, Si Bridger, Steve McMahon, Steve C, Steve Lyons and Jason Desmond our special guests are Mick H and all the way from Italy Roccia and Barbara Grassi. As if this wasn't enough a top line up of Modern DJ's are expected for the modern room and a large garden with a scrumptious Bar-b-Q will be on hand. There are plenty of hotels in the vicinity within a two minute car ride. Rest assured this will be an all ticket affair which without any doubt will be a sell out. All those on this mailing list will be first to know when tickets go on sale. As you can see there's lots going on in the forthcoming months and lots to support. The bigger events need your support to put The South on the Northern Soul map. We know its good now let's show the rest of the country its brilliant!!!
