Tony Smith Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Hi, just curious about the price.. it isn't on Popsike, so can you help? I suppose it's a big one.. Anywhere between 750-2000
Jumpinjoan Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Nahhh... not a big one... a HUGE ONE! I much prefer the Esquires version... far superior imo. Although... I know from past experience myself... there will be a few who disagree. You may well live to regret asking about this one
Jumpinjoan Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Anywhere between 750-2000 How much did you let yours go for Tony?
Dave Moore Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 It's one of the toughest on the label. I've been looking for 15 years. I've been offered a few, mainly demos but I've also seen a couple of nice stock Issues. (Ted Massey has one on here). The last two demos I was offered ended up in the "Land Of The Rising Record Price". Turns out that there is a developing Detroit collectors scene in Japan. Damn yer eyes Mr Flynn! Joan's right though, the Esquires version is equally as good. Damn sight cheaper too. And it comes on a nice W/Demo! Nice.

But for many it's a case of the Jimmy Delphs is stupidly rare so it has to be better. But just my oppion Dave
Guest Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 a few collectors must really prefer Jimmy D. when we auctioned a copy in March 07 it achieved an impressive final price of £2515
Paul Dunn Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 One on ebay along with lots of other nice things seller POPPY1952 fron Inverness anyone knowwho he/she is

But as much as tried, I couldn't make myself believe it was better than the Esquires @ £3. So I sold it to a guy from the Midlands, who told a mate of mine he found it in a warehouse in Detroit Edited November 21, 2007 by SteveM

Tony Smith Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 How much did you let yours go for Tony? Not as much as I could get now, it was over 10 years ago.
Sean Hampsey Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Love both versions but, for me, the Esquires wins by a yard or two! Every home should have one.
Dave Thorley Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 a few collectors must really prefer Jimmy D. when we auctioned a copy in March 07 it achieved an impressive final price of £2515 John I hate to disagree, the fact that they paid so much doesn't mean that they prefer it. It could be that they want to own the rarest version/copy. I don't say there is anything wrong, everyone collects for their own reasons. But to imply a version is better cuz people pay more doesn't stand up. I think we are splitting hairs though, they are both damn fine records, just one is easier to obtain than the other. Dave
Dave Thorley Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 ps I should be feeling better in the next few days, so less arguementative
Ted Massey Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 £120 of Andy Spencer god those were the days
Gasher Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 give you 100% more for it Tedward..£240 cash on the nose let me know gasher
Garethx Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) For me the Jimmy Delphs just edges it as I think it's his finest vocal. Strangely topical at the moment too ("Now get real funky, out on the floor...") Edited November 21, 2007 by garethx
Ted Massey Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 give you 100% more for it Tedward..£240 cash on the nose let me know gasher bet you would you get the instrumental as well
Tony Smith Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 £120 of Andy Spencer god those were the days £70 off Ian Clarke, Those were the days, in fact the deal was 140 for JD and Bobby Mac on Vended which I still have.
Prophonics 2029 Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 JD was the first version I had listened to at WC then when I got it on CD disappointment, it wasn't that big sounding record that I remembered but that's what the Casino added the awesome big sound and echo of the hall that it was, so The Esquires fits the bill for bigger sounding records but it's the same backing tack.
Anoraks Corner Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 The last two demos I was offered ended up in the "Land Of The Rising Record Price". Turns out that there is a developing Detroit collectors scene in Japan. Damn yer eyes Mr Flynn! I can't shoulder the blame (on this occasion!), but I know of one which landed here not too long ago...mint and white it is too! If push came to shove, the Esquires win...almost every time.
