Rbman Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I noted that there are thirty-two events listed in the Events section on here. I know I am split between several in the Southeast. Is it good or just too much?

pikeys dog Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Far too many local do's put on by people who need to qualify the amount they've spent on their credit cards for records on eBay...
Guest mrjp Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 toooooooooo , many , not good for scene in general .
Simon M Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 hi simon was nice to meet you too mate.think we put that bearsy straight must get over to scandanavia sometime, great music and pretty ladies have a good one Well worth a visit Taff . Bearsy is Deejaying with you soon I hear !!?
Dave Thorley Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 (edited) So which promoters will do the decent thing and close there venue down for the good of the scene I'll tell you none!!!!!!!! Have to agree with Pikey, all want to show off to their three mates what they got on ebay or paid even more on other auction sites. While the wife looks bored in the corner, believing that they got it at 'A good price, in trades'. That will be the record that was delivered to the works address. Sorry not feeling well Dave Edited November 19, 2007 by Dave Thorley
Guest outonthefloor Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I noted that there are thirty-two events listed in the Events section on here. I know I am split between several in the Southeast. Is it good or just too much? Too many in my opinion Martin but then i wouldn't want any to close down. Trouble is when a few of ur mates have do's on the same nite it's hard to support one at the expense of the other. If you're a bit of a traveller it's even worse! At least local do's try not to clash. Well most of the time that is. I think the deciding factor for me is if my mates are DJin then ill usually go there if things clash. Unless of course I've made a long standing promise or there's an R in the month or i fancy a change from the usual or..... Not too bad if there's a soul nite and a niter on the same nite. IMO it was better wen niters started later 1.00 - 2.00am then you could do 2 do's in one night without missin out. One things for sure, I'll defo be outonthefloor somewhere this weekend, Helen XXX
Chalky Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 quiet weekend then I counted summat like 46 t'other weekend
pikeys dog Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 So which promoters will do the decent thing and close there venue down for the good of the scene Dave Well I've knocked one R&B event that i was running on the head, as it's getting to the point of overkill... so that's three less events a year...

Sorry not feeling well Dave so how did the scene start off then or is it a closed shop now got to agree that their is a lot of events on this weekend and yes probably far too may but then again only a few weeks ago there was naff all on and i had to drive nearly 200 miles for me weekend fix, i like going further afield but not that distance every week, but then again it depends on where you live to i suppose
John Al Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 so how did the scene start off then or is it a closed shop now got to agree that their is a lot of events on this weekend and yes probably far too may but then again only a few weeks ago there was naff all on and i had to drive nearly 200 miles for me weekend fix, i like going further afield but not that distance every week, but then again it depends on where you live to i suppose Good point Paul. Small dos like these are the bedrock of the scene and always were. I haven't checked but I'd imagine they are all in the midlands/north. There are a lot though - surely not all for my Birthday? That's a lot of drinks to buy! Fortunately there's only one in Kent, Stolen Hours, Pegwell Bay, Ramsgate. See you there! John.

But have been to a fair few venues over the last few years, which when you arrive are clearly run for a few mate, have liitle athmosphere and are held in shabby little halls. But each does have say 50 or 60 there. Net result no one gets many in and you then get as we have seen week after week on the lookbacks treads 'bit quite last night', 'shame there weren't more there', 'would be OK with a few more in'. It's no different than satellite TV, the more stations the less the overall quality. Now I don't have the answer, it is a free world. People are getting old and a greater majority want a venue round the corner rather than drive 100+ miles, as many did way back when. But there are many small venues that are nothing more than youth club events with old people. Reality is that way back when there were lots of venues every weekend, but more people to go round, also the internet has made venues cheap to advertise and so more are visible than before. Before the internet, ad cost in Black Echoes or Blues and Soul meant that only the larger venues had national visability. But there were often local events on all over the country, again another difference was people would stop off at a soul nite on route to an allniter, far fewer people do two or three events in 24 hours as they used to. This is demonstrated by how few sunday alldayers there are now. Edited November 19, 2007 by Dave Thorley

KevH Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 why don't we have a Tesco land type soul company who dictate who goes where and when,,,,i mean who needs soul venues anyway, theyr'e all shite, apart from a certain few. Central control - its the future,,c'mon lets shut 'em down (apart from a certain few).

I'm about 6'2" and have a goatee - if I aint on the dance floor, I'll be at the bar, if I aren't at the bar, I'll be outside having a fag I've emailed a cracking request list to Ade, it's an oldies night, so should be a corker! Come and say hello, who should I be looking out for?

We'll be with the Driffield crowd, usually sit on the bar side towards the DJ end. Listen out for the Berkshire twang! look at my youtube clip, "Scarborough northern soul" and you'll see my partner (in green shirt) and friends at the end of one Scarboro nite.
