What.....no shouts of now tell me prices are coming down :wicked::yes:whistling.gif

I still reccon that's way too much for Mel Williams, but less than half of what a certain DJ paid for the last one. :unsure:innocent.gif Crackers.

Jackie Edwards £460, I'd have sold mine for half that, or a third even, sold a no centre one earlier this year for £40

blimey, i'll have to change my tune re prices.

i'll sell mine, ex+ with centre, for 400 notes. if anyone wants it PM me

Gotta disagree with you Phil. Just how many Mel Williams Burn Baby Burn do you see? One went on e-bay this year for artound £800. Its a rare record IMHO and I can think of quite a few that fetch what this fetched and more that aren't in the same league, both rarity wise and class!!!!

Totally agree with you Chalky, can't really see what Phil is basing his idea of Mel Williams is too much @ £700 ?

For me anyway, it's RARE i've probably only ever had 3 copies in my entire life... It's a damn good slab of Northern, the guy who won it really knows his stuff and i'm sure he's more than pleased. I rate it a fabulous piece of Northern Soul and a strong 4 figure 45, with solid proven rarity.

surely this cant be right

why do I always get this feeling that the finished prices on Mannys auction is in somehow Johns fault.

As a long time friend of Johns I can remember the days where he had the vat man up his arse, Inland Revenue down his throat and a bank manager chasing him around Liecs and Notts, I for one am chuffed he's turned it around as a uk rare soul scene without John Manship is like Jam Roly Poly without custard.

If folk want to bid silly money for anything, fair play to em.

Btw I sold my Mel Williams for £80

Paul,

BLACK STOCK copy was the selling element on the disc. There is a huge following for black stocks on Coral, Decca, Brunswick, RCA and MGM. And those who collect them don't mind paying cause in some case they are seriously rare. Interestintg to see if the rarity of The Bobbettes - Having Fun will be fully appreciate by "stock" collectors.

It's always been 50 or 60 quid tops on demo Bearsy, think this one was an issue so I'd have thought maybe £100..

Thanks John, for a minute there i nearly had mine up for sale  must admit ive not seen many if any Stock copies up for sale before is that for the reason there was less produced than the Demo`s hence the collector value.

I would have said £150, I saw it for that in a box somewhere couple years ago.

Just how rare is it on a demo John? I only knew of one till Friday when someone told me they'd just acquired on a trip stateside. I agree with your 4 figure valuation too. It's a record I've rated for years since Paul Donnelly put it me on a tape years ago and Andy Dyson has been playing it for few years. John Philips was the only other copy I knew about till the few thats been about in recent times.

The Danny Harrison DEMO is not rare, we have a copy or two of that i'm sure. But we would easily attain £100 for it. The stock copy was the first I had seen in recent memory.

As for the Mel Williams the two copies I've had this year, one came out of perhaps the the finest vinyl collection in the world. The other came out of one the finest collections in the UK. BOTH have been in these collections for almost 40 years. So today it is no commoner than it was decades ago, the two copies have just changed owners..

Thats double what I sell it for, it's no better than any UK pop stomper, I mean it's truly dreadful...his other records sound like Buddy Holly

I was referring to the Mel Williams demo John not Danny Harrison which I know isn't rare. I knew of just the one Mel Williamsd demo until told on Friday by someone that they'd just got one too.

The three copies of Mel Williams i've sold over the years have all been STOCK copies. I've seen a couple of demo's though, I'd say the DJ was slightly rarer. But I love the PINKY label of the stock.. much more attractive.

I'd say the Mel Williams was auctioned for a more than fair price. It's a tough record and has never really been about in anything like large quantities.

The Billy Miranda 45 was once around in small quantity, but that was an age ago. I bought a copy off Kitch around fifteen years ago and it still had the original Richard Domar comments and price on the sleeve: something like "mid to uptempo dancer, could go big in the right hands: £8". Mind you if Domar was selling it for that price it must have been pretty scarce as his usual price for this type of unknown was in the region of £1.50 to £2.50. I eventually swapped that copy with Mr Manship. Wonder if it's the one that was auctioned?

Nope, the one you let me have, went straight into my feeble collection. That copy was a customers..which is shame 'cause it achieved a really solid price.
