Anoraks Corner
Charlie McClendon & the Magnificents - Keep on Doin' - L - REV............. anyone know this ? Yes, I got one...blue label variant...has its moments doesn't it. Most releases that I've come across on the label are 'almost there', but not quite even to my ears (yes, yes, yes, I know I have no taste!). My fave and best release (ino) on the label (and you'd LOVE it, Russ) is the wonderful double-sider from Bob Marshall - 'You got me cryin'' / 'I'm gonna pay you back'. Both sides are excellent scene-playable uptempo Northern. Link to comment Social source share

Hey David When I was in the US I met up with the label owners a few times & got quite a few bits from them, there were a lot of acetates too, unfortunately most were just bad versions of the released stuff. The reason I was asking about the CM & M was because I was told by the owners that it was never released ???? Mine is the red LREV label & i was told it was one of three they had cut, but never did anything with, apparently it was the last thing they did............I find the 3 copies bit a little weird as it looks like the finished product too, so to do only three would have been a bit unusual to say the least. As a slight aside if you look at the credits on the left hand side of the label it names thier wifes or then girlfriends on the credits.........actually its them doing the harmonies on the chorus, as they couldnt afford backing singers, 2 white jewish girls !!!!. I also agree about the Bob Marshall David top tuneage !!!!. Thank you for the info mate, I would value your further opinion on the availability of the CM & M or anyone else that may know anything or have the 45. Cheers. Anoraks Corner
Didn't you get that off me? I've had x3 copies, no more, no less, over the years. Hmmm...maybe the first one came from you, Tone, but I can't remember what I did 10 minutes ago let alone 10+ years! Far too poppy for you, squire! Roburt
I know this is a very old thread, but there's now lots of info on this outfit up on the net so I thought I'd resurrect it. https://www.vmsoul.com/magnificent.html https://www.virginialiving.com/the-norfolk-sound_1/ https://vimeo.com/56769567 "Put Me Down Easy" ......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o19Ew-VYMJo "Need Love" ......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kZ6SfdOP90 "Gonna Hate Myself in the Morning" ......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OxdjPbzmlc Charlie McClendon talking ........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MENPlQzBabc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV53-A2-Si0 Link to comment Social source share

Roburt
Another good on-line piece .......... the Charlie McClendon Story .......... https://virginiafolklife.org/from-the-field/charlie-mcclendon/about/ An extract from the above ......... they booked Charlie at ...... makeshift Virginia Beach dancehalls that catered to young crowds, like the Peppermint Lounge and the Club Top Hat. ........ so I can answer the question I asked on another thread as obviously Charlie McClendon & the Magnificents did play gigs in the Virginia Beach clubs that catered for the Beach Music scene crowd back in the day.
