On the other hand, that demo of The Majestics is up to 487 with still 6 days to go :D

I thought it was around a 200 record?

Any theories?

I would say it's certainly more than a £200 record, don't see it that often. Not a £500 record though! Guess who traded a M- copy for a lot less than £500 about 3 days before that one went on Johns auction

Prices have come down!

Friend of mine has just got a record normally £150 on Mr Manships site for 32 dollars +postage

Prices vary depending on how you shop- What really gets to me is other dealers have the same prices as john expecting to make a big mark up while others are realistic and price acccording to demand or take less mark up!

Apart from avery few records that have a perceptive risk around numbers available? /existing? most records are in quantity and its all a game to get the best price. Their are people on ebay who have abox of one or two titles but only let one out every so often to give the impression of rarity when infact their is quantity. Is it honest? I dont know but its certainly not very moral!

Of course prices are coming down, been on the slide for two years at least, whatever the major dealers claim.

Unless rare soul records are somehow defeating every known economic indicator in terms of supply and demand, demographics and the wider economy.

I never used to sell unless I had doubles but for months now I've been off-loading records I know I'll see again because I know I can make a few quid. Eg sold a Gene Toones demo probably a year ago for £2,000, a good price at the time... I would say it is a £1,200 record now, £1,500 absolute tops.

Of course, I've also been buying stuff which will probably come down in price, not claiming any special powers of foresight

psst anyone wanna buy a Magnetics on Sable :D

I thought it was about 300 to 350 nowadays depending on which one you bought? Like Mark says, used to be loads about at one time.

Some prices coming down, some going up, swings and roundabouts :D

Wasn't that down to condition though?

VG wasn't it?

Reserve was too high for the state it was in.

:D

The Chandlers on Col Soul 1152, a small label from Columbus, Ohio. "Your Love Makes Me Lonely" and "I Need Your Love". The vinyl is in VG condition, a little background noise, overall plays great. Small name on flip side of label. No Reserve!

This copy from ebay finished at $521......... £250?????........... Reserve too high unsure.gif or prices going down???

I'd say that prices in general have reduced about a third over the last 2 years. No suprise, really, the economy has been going through a gradual slow down for a while, more people than ever looking for records in the U.S., so over supply and price reduction.

Some very rare records will always achieve a good price, but even these are seeing a reduction in recent auction prices. The record market is not that dis-similar to the stock market, at times it's over heated, then people get nervous and sell or have cash flow problems. If you watch the sales section here, there have been some great stuff for sales of late, with people clearly off loading. Terms like 'need to make space/ cash needed for new record purchase' etc. Some dealers will say that everything is still fantastic, they believe it's in their interest. I'd say the market has had a much needed correction, there are some killer low priced items out there and now is the time to buy. The good value items will get sucked up, fairly soon and the market will pick up again. Sell, sell if you want to, but I say buy, buy :ohmy:

Thats over priced if you ask me in nthat condition, I'd only pay that for a minter, mthen begrudgingly. How many copies of this are there about, loads I'd say, certainly more than the Symphonics :wicked::thumbup:

Agree, Chalky

This must appear for sale on ebay every couple of months. All from the states so new to the market.

Ive picked up some really nice tunes this last few weeks via ebay some as cheap as £5 each, indeed The Chalfontes - He Loves Me - RED mercury with 1 hr today go is still only £7????

also a big mention for Adam at Soul Supermarket and Pete Smith who have been very fair and honest with me this last two weeks.

It's ok people saying prices are coming down but many of those that are high, especially e-bay are bought by bidders who haven't done their homework. Maybe many prices that are supposed to be coming down are just falling back to the level they should be at and not the over inflated level caused by those who haven't a clue or just didn't care what the real worth was, they wanted the particular record whatever the cost!!!!

The market saw a huge influx of people who returned to the scene/collecting with plenty of ready cash after paying off the motgage and kids growing up, maybe they are finally realising they don't have to pay top dollar for records? Maybe they are finally doing their homework and looking round for records. Time and time again we've questioned the wisdom of some purchases on the likes of e-bay. Maybe those who's purchases have been questioned are finally waking up!! :wicked:

anyone know which d healey on auction is the rarer...wheelsville or chrysler>??????? thanks ezzie

The Wheelsville 45 for me, is infinately rarer and of course it's the Detroit press.

The Chrysler 45 was pressed at SHELDON Chicago. If you collect Detroit the Wheelsville is the one to have or visa versa if you collect Chicago.

The Wheelsville offering was the only copy i've ever listed in memory. The Chrysler I've a had over a handful or more of.

But rarity is personal, for someone else it maybe the other way round.

Ezzie,

The flipside is considered a very good "Jamaican" Island sound. Spin it and see what you think..
