Anoraks Corner
Seems there is (thankfully) a load of Jimmy acetates in circulation and here's another one. It is a great track co-penned by Buddy Scott entitled, 'Breakaway'...but...it is not to be confused with the Steve Karmen classic, as it has a totally different lyric/backing track. Jimmy sings the lead with an uncredited male group backing him up. Obviously a demo run through..one can but imagine what it would've been like with added brass and/or strings! Has anyone got a finished take? It is a 10" acetate that also still had the original lyric sheet slipped inside the sleeve. Hi Flynny, Unfortunately The Acetate Is The Only Version As This Song Never Was Covered By Another Artist. The Backing Vocals Are All Done By Jimmy Himself. It Was Suppose To Be Recorded By A Group He Was Producing At The Time Called The Silent Glo... But Alas He Never Got Them In The Studio As Other Projects Took Precedent. Guest
Any idea of the date he recorded this, Chris? Well It Was Written And Recorded In August Of 1965. The Songwriter Contract With Roosevelt Music Is Dated 25th, August 1965 And They Usually Wrote The Songs Shortly Before They Pitched Them To The Publishers. At The Time Jimmy And His Writing Partner, Buddy Scott, Would Get Together Early In The Week, Say Monday Or Tuesday Get A Bottle Of Rum And Go To Central Park Or One Of The Offices That Were Available To Them And Write Songs. By Thursday Or Friday They'd Have 8-10 Songs And Would Go To The Publishers Offices, At 1650 Broadway Or The Brill Building, Starting On The First Floor Working Their Way Up And Then Back Down To Catch Whoever Wasn't Around Or Was Out To Lunch. That's all very well and good, but you failed to mention the brand of rum! Link to comment Social source share

I'll take the image of them sitting on a wooden bench in the park composing, with the bottle in a plain brown paper bag, naturally. If only you knew what the weather was like on that day, the picture would be complete! Sticklers of the Soul world unite! Cheers Chris Link to comment Social source share
