boba Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I had a double-show on Sunday -- I subbed for the doowop show before me and then did my regular show. Since I don't really know much about doowop, I played early 60s transitional soul. I separated out the two shows so you can listen independently. The two shows are here: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-28-2007-DOOWOP.mp3 https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-28-2007.mp3 I'm out this coming weekend but in two weeks I'll be doing an interview with the lead of the excellent Chicago group the Mystics who cut the record "that's the kind of love." I was thinking that I'd have to do without my weekly fix. I'll be tuning in tonight and will be especially interested in the "transitional" stuff.
Guest Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 (edited) Hi Bob, not listened to the above shows yet but will over the weekend for sure, interesting to hear you are going to have the MYSTICS in the studio this weekend, the track you mentioned also has their version of "i really love you" (jimmy burns bobby James) on the other side, be interesting if they know about the interest that record has had over here in the UK If you haven't listened to the shows make sure you do, some excellent stuff on them, presented by someone who really knows their stuff ( always learn something by listening to them ) cheers Andy Mann ps might post the Mystics "that's the kind of love" to get a bit of interest Edited November 2, 2007 by Guest

I asked him about that side (which was written by Bobby Newsome aka Bobby james of the Vontastics) and he told me that the label owner just brought the song in and they never met Bobby. He said that they actually reworked the lyrics too but still had to have the original writer in the credits. Do you hear any different lyrics on the mystics version? Thanks.
