Mike Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Passed on via the contact us feature thanks Lorenzo I noticed there was a lot of discussion about the Mandells. I will give you a few comments. The Money Town Label was from Chicago, Illinois. George Redmon was the owner producer. The Mandells was the first group recorded. The first song was "What Can You Do For Me" and the flip side was "I Just Can't Win." We left Money Town after the two songs were recorded and George Redmon took our song and used the original track to record a couple of versions of "What can you do for me." He did so without our permission. Part II: The original members of the Mandells - Vernon Hammons who was the lead on those two songs, Lorenzo Clemons, Jonathan Barrett, Robert Hodges, Bobby, Milton, and William Wright. The group left George Redmon and created the record label Trans World Sound. TWS was Tom Smith, Wilbur Johnson, and Silvester Richardson. Claude Johnson took over most of the lead with Robert Hodges doing the some of the leads on other songs. The group make up under this arraignment - Claude Johnson (Lil June), Vernon Hammons, Lorenzo Clemons, Robert Hodges, Jonathan Barrett, William, Bobby, Milton and Ronnie Wright. Two other members Herb and Robert also played in the band. The Group was made up of singers and musicians. Everyone was from Chicago. Lil June, Robert Hodges, and Milton Wright are deceased. Thank you for you interest in Mandell's history. Lorenzo Clemons
