Reg Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 To be honest i've seen a load of skirmishes between folks at various do's over the last 27 years, nothing major like i've seen at football matches but i think there is some misguided opinion that soul people haven't got all the flaws and emotions of "civillians"( couldn't think of a term for non soulies)...Only a few years back saw some fellas kicking hell out of each other outside the chalets on the grass at Prestatyn at around 8am...very surreal after a long day/night...........i felt like diving straight in. Brett Oi baldy...have you got a a problem??? love a good scrap.....apparantly missed a good one on my hen night at the Greatstone...I was out for the count though so it all passed me by...ah shucks
Guest Brett F Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Who you calling baldy.............i'll make you go out with Rich in public while he's wearing those trousers from Graham of Scarborough...........
Codfromderby Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 beau brummell derby midish 70,s walked out of the bogs to hear my fave tune starting, ran to the dancefloor, danced for about 30 secs then realised the place had been trashed by folks scrapping, didnt realise until my dancing was interupted by me treading on broken glass and some blokes hair, in the anarchy that followed my mate nipped behind the the now unmanned bar to help himself/us to whatever was there, oh how we laughed later when we were spewing pernod and lager cocktails "all the way home" note to self: must grow up one day

Guest rachel Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Or alternatively swearing? It's nothing to do with the site owners, some of us just like a gossip and to reminiscence, which sometimes give us a laugh. This is our playground and there's a lot of big kids about who enjoy playtime. As Ty Karim would sing it, Lighten Up Baby. Thanks for that Ady. Denmac, not really sure what you're getting at - topic wasn't started by the site owner, people can discuss what they want related to the scene in here (within reason!). Also like to remind members that unedited swearwords aren't welcome on here.

Girl and bloke she swang at him he stopped her and held her arms just above the elbows to calm her down.. so she nutted him!!! all over in 15 secs.. but they was together so was no threat to any one else..
BrianB Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 there was a massive fight at blackpool mecca around 1972 like the wild west you somehow felt it was going to go off then it did, we were sat at a table and somehow the table ended up on top of me and those tables were heavy, there was chairs flying and everything, never saw another there after that, it was all love peace and harmony thereafter That was the Burnley crew on an 18th birthday party. We were about 30% soulies and the rest were footy fans. We were upstairs when the lads came up for the soulies to help them out. We met on the stairs with the other mob and all hell broke out. It went on for some time before the bouncers threw the other crew out. I think they were from Middlesborough. We saw them outside and it REALLY kicked off then. Happy days....

Guest Karen Heath Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Certainly lives up to his sobriquet does our Butch...I didn't see it but I heard there had been a bit of a set to in the record bar at one of the early Cleethorpes weekenders I was at, between Butch and another DJ/dealer ( Ginger springs to mind) like I said missed it but remember seeing Butch draped in a towel surrounded by his 'seconds' .....seem to remember he looked wet so maybe it was drinks rather than fists that had been thrown....then seeing a movement out of the corner of my eye I ducked instinctively, and saw it was Butch putting the lid back on his record box, he laughed when I said ' bloody hell Butch I thought you were gonna belt me with that then' I was laughing too.....well, I mean.....you don't want to be getting on his bad side do you ....... I was there! I was standing chatting to Butch when an ongoing altercation reared it's (ginger!) head and suddenly our Mark vaulted over the table like a whippet chasing a rabbit....I tried to hold him back but I was powerless in my ladylike frock. It was all very manly!

I saw that too - love it when a girl gives a bloke a good smack ha! Apparently as this was going on we missed 2 more inside! One was a couple who started on each other and then left the building. Another was a skinhead girl dancing on the dance floor, another bloke started to try and engage her in a dance (!) and her chap was beckoning her off the dance floor. She wouldnt get off although to be fair she did turn her back on the first chap but she was then dragged off the floor by her chap and all hell broke loose. Two for the price of one and I missed em both as was outside at the time! Cheryl
Driveller Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Craig Brick and Baz Riley had a bit of a scuffle with Bob the Mod (i think that's what he called himself) one night in the bogs at The Pheonix Club .Might be wrong but did'nt Baz bite off his ear (Tony Smith was there as well so perhaps he can remember better than i can) i was trying to have a slash at the time ...bloody inconsiderate or what? Not sure if this is the Pheonix night that I was at, but assume so, as there was definitely an ear bitten off. A few strangers(?) had come in and one had bitten a bloke called Jamie's ear off in the bar area. I remember a real scuffle and seeing Keb, who was DJing at the time, literally jump over the decks to go towards it. I also remember a few of us going around with ice buckets, naively thinking if we found the ear it could get sewn back on. Never did find the ear so assumed it was swallowed! Roughly mid to late 80s I think. All The Best, Dawn Brown
Guest Soultown andy Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Loads of fightin on the scene in the late 70s,bolton train station with the rockers before gettin on the train, then with locals walkin up to the casino on a regular basis.Trouble with punks at the carousel niters in manchester, far quieter these days thank god.If your goin to fight get paid for it or dont bother.
Guest Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Only fighting I've seen at soul events has been people's egos
BrianB Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 And I thought it was Sunderland Brian .......I got the vent in my jacket extended by about 2 feet. Wasn't the Sunderland ruck in Charlies Bar before we went to the Mecca on another occasion? I remember that jacket!

Roughly mid to late 80s I think. All The Best, Dawn Brown That was a horrible one, Jamie was a great young guy and it changed his life, we hardly ever saw him again. The fight was from the Phoenix before when Big Bob a well known London mod had beaten up Baz (I think) after the do outside the venue. Bob wasn't at the club the month after so Craig, Baz and another bloke who was a psycho I never saw before or after went into the bogs and beat up / damaged Jamie who was also a mod but had nothing to do with the original ruck. I'm pretty sure it was the non-soulie one who bit the top part of the ear off. The whole incident was ugly but there was a funny post script when Craig arranged to meet Bob in an alley way a few weeks later for a one on one. Craig turned up with a tooled-up gang while Bob was on his own. They agreed it would be one on one, though obviously that wasn't very likely. Craig whipped out a sock with snooker balls in it, whirled it round but the sock split and the balls went flying and he was left with an empty sock in his hand! I think after that fiasco they said they'd call it a draw. Edited November 7, 2007 by ady croasdell
Guest Mrs Simsy Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 There was a wee fight outside the Marrs Bar on Saturday night. They weren't soulies but this girl was going mental at her fella & he was just laughing at her so she started laying into him. Then one of the soulies told her to pack it in & she screamed at him so he chased her down the street!
Guest Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi Mal, I was reading all the previous posts to yours about fighting on the soul scene and my wife Judi and I agreed that the only bit of trouble we ever saw was one night at The Old Vic in about 1988 when some of locals had a bit of a do over a young lady and I was talking to Dave Evison who was DJ'ing at the time and an empty pint glass came flying towards us and we ducked and it smashed on the wall behind us, but what a concidence that your post was the next one we read. The Old Vic was a great venue with Pep at the helm, had some great nights there, we attended nearly everyone and we used to travel from Stockport, that's how much we enjoyed it. Regards Alan Dave Evison got the glass threw at him for calling 2 lads involved (who were local, but had attended everyone of pep's soul nights since the opener) "skinhead c@nts"..... yet it was an older soulie that confronted them and instigated the trouble...yet 100 plus turned on the 2 teenage lads
sister dawn Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I have been told, a Venue in Sheffield I usually attend, but did'nt last month, that something went off ,fists flying and some one was hit in the face with a stilletto shoe, the sharp end, that sez it all to me,as a result the Do was cancelled this month by the club management ,,no word yet if it will ever be allowed on again, because of it Bazza who the feck dances in stillettos.....
Guest Neil-ok Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 who the feck dances in stillettos..... Ive seen a few who looked like they where .
Suzannek Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 In the mid 90s went to the Coliseum soul do in Derby and there was a woman that danced in a pair of red stilettos, the thing is she was a great dancer! It amazed me how she danced in em. I cannot walk in them never mind dance in em. Give me a pair of wedgies any day (never wear flatties being a midget of 4ft 11 inches ) Suz x
Guest SteveC Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) Was outside Cleethorpes winter gardens (early 80's) with Mick Pipe, Dick Chapman & Pete Robinson waiting for the niter to open and our G/Clears man to turn up. When he did and we were just about to trade a BMW turned up in the car pack next door and the man gave us his coat (which in hindsight contained the g/clears) and under which was a baseball bat and he ran over to the BMW and bashed f*** out of it and then with difficulty dragged the driver out and and cave him a hiding until the guy managed to get in the car and drive it away - less lights of course. Allegedly guy getting the hiding had been somewhat "ungentlemanly" towards his own wife who was a friend of Mr G/Clears. Tut Tut these modern do's I couldn't apologise enough for the scuffles that occurred at Ady's 100 club do a year or so ago due to an outsider/s spoling real soulies lives on the dancefloor. I remember having one by the neck after I heard Carole screaming "why dont you f*** off" just at the end of Ady's Milton Bennett and didn't ask any ?'s as he'd been at it all night with Tony Smith and a few others giving warnings to these prats. All in all there were about 5/6 scuffles that night but the funny part was when they were close to Trickster annoying him so I went over and asked if he was OK and he claimed "I ain't scared of em you know Steve" - was absolutely hilarious and Molly cried coz he'd not attended that do. Think it would have been nipped in the bud somewhat earlier had Keb been there. Unfortunately another more serious ruck took place late on that nite between a few different parties which paled our conficts into insignificance. Can but apologise again Ady Edited August 26, 2008 by SteveC

Guest Carrie Mehome Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Not sure if anyone else saw the Ali G lookalike in a Gucciesque white striped jacket pour his drink over a girl down the 100 club earlier this year? The soaked girl then threw her drink over him. They weren't together and both their groups started shouting abuse and then the Ali G lookalike started giving me and everyone at the bar evil looks. He seemed to disappear not sure if he got thrown out at some point then re-appeared then went again. It looked really nasty and ugly.

Gogger Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 nearest thing i came to trouble, was at wigan when we got there the queue was a mile long so me and 3 mates went back to the car to wait out of the cold, this big black guy built like a brick shithouse, with a long leather coat down to his ankles follows us and asks us for our gear, none of us took drugs but he was having non of that, and kept threatening to smash our faces in if he found any on us,i always remember holding a 12" monkey wrenchfrom under the seat, ready to smash his face in,later i saw him going up the stairs,i tried to get my mates to meet him at the top to knock the twat back down to the bottom, but they woudn't and he lived to rob another day.anybody remember him,he had a scouse accent, large afro and that leather coat you'd never forgethe was like an extra from shaft.
Headsy Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 used to happen a lot in Newcastle late 70s, two that spring to mind, Gosforth Civic hall when locals tried to get in.............little Duncan who ran the buses to Mecca and Wigan and was only 5 foot summat, jumped up onto the reception desk to kick them all in the head cos he was too small to nut them, Kev J and others on here will remember that, there was hell on. Tynemouth assembly rooms......when they were playing latest cover ups etc from a tape and had two covered records on the decks that never changed, Franky Lucas just kept moving the tape around to the records they wanted, bad now but what fun then cos everybody thought they were proper records and what great stuff he had........then the locals came in from a rough area ( North Shields ) and all hell broke loose, people hitting each other with record boxes ,tables flying, about 30 locals and 15 soul lads hitting shit out of each other, I went for help me cos I had a sniffle/cold and was a little tired plus many others others that are funny to us but a bit long winded for here.......... Kirby Stephen working club, services at Birch, Chester Le Street all dayers......come to think of it we always got into trouble back then, not now though cos all sensible .
Liam2005 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Well i'm bored at work so i thought i'd add a few memories on this topic. I remember being in the ship pub in central London and had been on th sauce allday with an old girlfriend. She said shall we go to Taff's party in Hertfordshire? i said yeah why not. So we staggered off to the station and arrived for the last hour. Anyway i was in such a bad way i went outside and before i knew what was going there was a massive ruck! Don't know what started it but this was a proper toe to toe between about 10 lads. I sat on the wall with my beer and watched as one went down and one got up lol. The coppers came in a few cars and wagons and they got involved . Next thing i know a copper is asking me what im doing here? i said nothing just taking in the show. He decided i was no bother and slapped me on the shoulder saying go home son. The thing is i then lost my balance and fell off the wall and rolled down the grass verge about 20 yards. By the time i got up the hill everyone had stopped or been arrested. There was also a mad night at the 100club (small faces night) when there was two CS gas canisters let off in a ruck in the toilets...i remember Adey running after one of Canisters by the dance floor. At the Capitol Soul Club one night a certain London Soulie told the owner of the Dome that if he stopped him dancing again by the bar he would have him shot!! lol. The owner was not best pleased but decided to leave it when i told him who the soulie was and his family's background. The thing's some people do just to have a dance Greg
Guest Rich Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hi there has anybody noticed people fighting on the soul scene at soul do's lately. It seems to be increasing because the last few soul nights I have been to there has been fighting has anybody else noticed this ? I am sure it never used to be like this or is an influx of bad people or are attiudes changing whats it like for the rest of you up and down the country? I think it was probably worse than you imagine in 'the old days'. Grievance's often seemed to be sorted 'stage left' so to speak - somebody I know carried on in the bogs at a Derby Kings Hall all-nighter early 80s what had started on the Rugby pitch a month or so earlier. I remember a 'big to do' with a load of Skinheads at a KGB doo in Sheffield - again late 70s early 80s (can't remember exactly). The stand-off across the dance-floor culminated in it kicking off big-time in the car-park when the lights went up - if I remember a few people turning up at a Cleethorpes WG all-dayer with the odd bump and bruise (althugh my 'time-line' may be a bit iffy as it is a long time ago).
Mach Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 brings back memories to my one and only visit to the kgb late 70s when me and 3 pals were chased by a semi naked, bearded axeman, screaming he was going to kill us,through the streets of sheffield, luckily we were young and could run like the clappers, the niter had been cancelled so we headed back to the train station, only to find no trains till 5 or6 in the morning, so decided it would be safer to get some kip in the station...all was well till all the local p*ss heads arrived at about 2am for there last trains home....and you all know the senario ..we looked slightly out off place with spencers, patches? and the obligatory hand luggage to these locals who decided it would be a good idea to use us as urinals and ashtrays as we tried to catch some sleep on the platform...we abandoned that idea and decided to try and hitch a lift..did,nt hold out much hope.. 4 of us although skinny..we were lads not lasses,,after about 4 mile we gets picked up by this "unknown to us then "WIERDO"guy..looked a bit like woody allen.asked where we were going and said he could take us nearly half way,we thought "that,ll do it was cold , dark and had just began raining.we had been in his car about 15mins listening to him talking rubbish and a charlie drake tape in the background, when i realised that the outside scenery was beginning to look familiar, this TW*T was driving us round in circles.anyway next set of traffic lights we were out ,legging it again up the road!...cut a long storey short,we got home o.k..but it sort of put us off returning to the kgb..

Another nighter followed shortly after and went on trouble "free". And may I add not many attended the second one. Would not trouble Pat Brady........not many people know that Pat was a very good boxing coach/trainner around West Yorkshire area. Pat is still mentioned with respect for his craft today in the local boxing circles.

Reforee Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 The BEST venues with the Best DJs are where the real fighting takes place, I mean, if it dont come down on top big style , then how on earth are new records gonna get broken? Most of the top Djs must of had a good scrap, as they are always giong on about they broke that record at that venue etc etc. Its either that or they are clummsy fools. The Man in Black
