Steve G Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Have seen some over the years...Wigan being attacked by the 50 or so divs, and us all agreeing we'd hold our ground as they charged towards us, only to turn round and find there's only four of us left Southgate yup, Stoke a few years ago someone got knifed didn't they? - blood on the dancefloor as I remember. We've had a few "evictions", and at one local event one of the fat boys had too much to drink and started mouthing off.......but that's it......thankfully our soul events are actually fairly safe places to go - apart from the apparant Hep C risk I guess
Naughty Boy Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I have been told, a Venue in Sheffield I usually attend, but did'nt last month, that something went off ,fists flying and some one was hit in the face with a stilletto shoe, the sharp end, that sez it all to me,as a result the Do was cancelled this month by the club management ,,no word yet if it will ever be allowed on again, because of it Bazza Sorry Baz pmed you , the trouble at the polish was not caused by a soul fan but a piss head that got in around 12.30 ish partly due to the smokin ban and not being able to keep doors shut and management not wanting to police it correctly, usualy one or two of the lads kept and eye on the door but since the smokin ban one or two have managed to gain entry via the members room entrance. and it turns out it was about sheff u and sheff wed god knows why Rob

moddy Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 The only trouble i have seen over the years was in about 83/84 at Morcambe Pier. There was a battle on the Pier on the way in, between a group of fellas, drug induced so i was told at the time by the management. The only other time was the Motown weekender at Prestatyn this Oct where Karen Wigely was attacked and, may I add, unprovoked, by 2 females. Totally uncalled for. Drug induced yet again. Drugs were evident and the perpitrators were seen dropping them all over the floor. Is this really what a supposed mature dance culture needs?
Ady Croasdell Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Remember some clown clocking Winston round the head with a bit of two by four outside the 100 Club one night..........I was doing some window shopping along Oxford St , saw what happened & went off in hot pursuit, with Winston a close second & Ady bringing up the rear (pardon the expression), realising this chap still had his plank I armed myself from a skip (?)...............only to realise I was making ground & would soon catch up, not being a partcularly aggressive person & realising, 'sh*t' this guy just decked Winston !!!' & that I had acted on the spur of the moment.......... I suddenly thought 'What the f**k am I going to do when I catch this guy', subsequently I slowed down slightly..........the guy had faded into the distance by the time the others caught up & needless to say we never did catch him..........alway's smile about this, Winstons 'head' apart, cos I remember being quite concerned that Ady & Winston might rumble me & think I was a right puff if they ever realised what had really happened, luckily was never rumbled until now . Russ I remember it as me in the lead, especially if you stopped to arm yourself! He was a sly little sod but he could run and we didn't ever get close enough to see who it was. No harm in not being aggressive Russ, I can do without the psychos before you any day mate. Edited October 30, 2007 by ady croasdell
Guest rachel Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I've seen at least 2 or 3 scuffles/ fights at soul nights every year I've been on the scene, and heard of a fair few more, some involving 'outsiders' and some not - I must go to the wrong places or hang out with the 'bad people'
Guest Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 been going to soulnights up here in scotland for a good few years now and not once seen any trouble I think reason being that people know it just wouldnt be toloerated never seen any trouble down south either come to think of it we all have a responsibilty to nip things like this in the head straight away thankfully I believe this is the case throughout the scene no matter were you go there may be a few blips along the way but as long as thats all there AINT NO BIG THING

Are these north or the border scuffles? Are Scots Souls better biffers than southern puffs?
Guest rachel Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Every year you say!? Are these north or the border scuffles? Are Scots Souls better biffers than southern puffs? Seen both North & South of the border, pretty much equal I'd say (we are of course tougher though )

Guest Byrney Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I've seen but a handful. Morecambe pier where there was a fight (handbags at dawn really) between members of 2 scooter clubs. Hinckley early 80s. Some skins were trying to tax some soulies round the back of the leisure centre, they got a shoeing but one of the soul lads got stabbed, nowt major, I went to hospital with him and was back in the nighter for 3. Leicester Oddfellows, one of the anniversaries; some locals tried their luck and got legged up the street by Curley and some of the Notts crowd. Sometimes felt like it could go off at Parr Hall and Morecombe as there were always one or two active football lads there (could have been para though). Remember someone at Morecambe trying to Tax my mate for his Ski Jacket. Long story but they ended up swapping phone numbers to meet up for match fixtures.
Guest gordon russell Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 some of the do's ive been to lately could do with a good fight to liven them up right on fella lol
Guest taffy Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 the best NS scrap EVER was when Wigan Rugby League 1st team 'somehow' got into the Casino. It kicked off big time in the upstairs area, Peter Widdison?? hit this prop forward from the rear with a casino chair, it broke into a 1000's pieces and the bloke just turned round with a "who the f*** did that' glare. Bloker from Peterborough hit this bloke with the best right hander ever, it broke two bones in his hand..pmsl I don't know what happend next as I was under a table as if a H bomb was going to be dropped on Station Rd any minute. I have it on very good authority that a certain Harboro Horace did some dancing that night ...lol REMEMBER IT WELL PAUL,TOTAL MAYHEM HAD A FEW SCUFFLES OUTSIDE THE WIRRINA BACK THEN AS WELL.
Catriona Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 all that at one all-dayer!!!.God i was lucky if i got to speak to a female at a dayer!! BTW which one of 'em was in her late 70's?
Tomangoes Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 BUB (RIP) was djing at CWG all dayer sometime around late 78. For some reason there was about 500 red baloons in a net above the dance floor that got released. Next thing its like a boxing ring with folks punching the baloons. First time I had ever caught somebody clean on the chin and it was first round knockout. It happens................ Not seen much trouble at all really over the last 10 years, but when I have its local gatecrashers who kick off mostly. Ed

Guest chris Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 I've only just rediscovered my soul roots so I can only comment on the venues that I've managed to attend recently. One of those happens to be the Empress Ballrooms Mexborough, where there wasn't the slightest sign of trouble, unless you count the normal scuffle for the bar at last orders.
Guest rachel Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Hi Wigan, as a new member can you do us an intro in the intros forum here - https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showforum=44
Guest the dukester Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 to be honest never seen nothin but good manners....sadly the scooter scene is still a little dodgy at times ! WHY COMPARE IT TO THE SCOOTER SCENE I BELIEVE THE QUESTION WAS......... PEOPLE FIGHTING ON THE SOUL SCENE
Kevinkent Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Could someone please start a fight at Kent Soul Club. I've been speaking with the doormen and they say they are sooooo BORED on KSC nights. "STOLEN HOURS" 1st Anniversary, ***RAMSGATE*** 24th NOVEMBER. 2 Rooms + Accomodation + Free unissued Vinyl (first 100 tickets) *** Change of venue - see Events thread ***

Hi Byrney I remember this one too. I seem to recall the opposition being a group of skins who started everything off by shouting racist bullshit? It was the same night that someone undid the wheel nuts on me Ford Cappreeee Ghia!

Guest rockcandy Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Hi there has anybody noticed people fighting on the soul scene at soul do's lately. It seems to be increasing because the last few soul nights I have been to there has been fighting has anybody else noticed this ? I am sure it never used to be like this or is an influx of bad people or are attiudes changing whats it like for the rest of you up and down the country? There was a bit of a ker-fuffle some years back @Uptown Down South Soul Club, Abshott Country Club which i believe was the last do there, great shame as was a great venue & did a spot on breakfast
Ric-tic Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 (edited) there was a massive fight at blackpool mecca around 1972 like the wild west you somehow felt it was going to go off then it did, we were sat at a table and somehow the table ended up on top of me and those tables were heavy, there was chairs flying and everything, never saw another there after that, it was all love peace and harmony thereafter Edited November 1, 2007 by ric-tic
Jaco Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 there was a massive fight at blackpool mecca around 1972 like the wild west you somehow felt it was going to go off then it did, we were sat at a table and somehow the table ended up on top of me and those tables were heavy, there was chairs flying and everything, never saw another there after that, it was all love peace and harmony thereafter I can remember that night, vividly. Those involved were not Northern fans (they came up to the Highland Room from the main room downstairs) but what a ruck! When the lights went on the bouncers carted everybody off downstairs and it still continued down into the main entrance and out onto the streets. There must have been up to 50 lads involved. At one point a coach pulled up outside the front doors and another 20 or so lads piled in. At one point 3 or 4 lads were giving a serious kicking to some unfortunate fellow, only to stop when one of the attackers said, and I quote - "Leave him, he's one of ours" at which point they dragged him of to the side and then waded back in!
Jumpinjoan Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Seem to remember a bit of an almighty scuffle between Butch and another in the record bar at the Swan Hotel niters that Rob Marriott used to run? Or was that something I imagined in my head... to amuse myself while there was an hour of modern on or something...?

Guest gb2nyc Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 This was in 1980/1 at a club at the top of Saint Stevens street in Norwich ( I can't remember the name of it). it was opposite the Norwich Union building the same side as the hospital. I was dancing as usual and I stood on this fellars foot, so I turned and said sorry ( as one does), then about 5 mins later I stood on his foot again, so I turned to say sorry again and the next thing I remember was I was on my arse on the dance floor with a pain/blood coming from my mouth. The said fellar had decked me. The girls rushed me to the bathroom and I was told he was taken outside for a good talking to. Needless to say I now duck when I say sorry for stepping on some ones foot. Angie
Guest ScooterNik Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I've seen but a handful. Morecambe pier where there was a fight (handbags at dawn really) between members of 2 scooter clubs. If its the one I remember it was 85 (I think), and it was Heart & Soul SC & Trojans SC, the two Morecambe clubs at the time. I'd met up with a couple of Heart & Soul and was just going up the pier when one of the Trojan lads clattered one of the H&S round the back of the head out of the blue. Crap punch, my mate turned round and started gobbing off until it was pointed out we were a bit outnumbered, some soulies stepped in to back us up and it all went quiet very quickly. Last I saw the Trojan was being escorted off the pier. Over in about 30 seconds. That sound right?
Guest davew Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Craig Brick and Baz Riley had a bit of a scuffle with Bob the Mod (i think that's what he called himself) one night in the bogs at The Pheonix Club .Might be wrong but did'nt Baz bite off his ear (Tony Smith was there as well so perhaps he can remember better than i can) i was trying to have a slash at the time ...bloody inconsiderate or what?
Guest Russ Smith Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 HAD A FEW SCUFFLES OUTSIDE THE WIRRINA BACK THEN AS WELL. The friendly locals used to throw bricks at us and ambush us on route from the bus stop to the Fleet aound 79..
Guest andyrattigan Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Around 1992 or 1993 at a Celtic Soul Brother's do a mini riot broke out between a group of what I like to call "special brew skinheads". I think it was over a girl. They ruined the night which was going really well until then. They were more from the Irish Scooter scene at the time rather than the Soul scene. Several Paddy wagons had to come and arrest the lot of them. That was the end of Celtic Soul Brothers' nights at that venue. I used to attend a lot of scooterist events in Ireland back in the early nineties simply because that was somewhere to hear a bit of soul. There used to be a lot of fights at these events so I eventually just stopped going. Can't be dealing with that kind of shite.
Guest Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Seem to remember a bit of an almighty scuffle between Butch and another in the record bar Certainly lives up to his sobriquet does our Butch...I didn't see it but I heard there had been a bit of a set to in the record bar at one of the early Cleethorpes weekenders I was at, between Butch and another DJ/dealer ( Ginger springs to mind) like I said missed it but remember seeing Butch draped in a towel surrounded by his 'seconds' .....seem to remember he looked wet so maybe it was drinks rather than fists that had been thrown....then seeing a movement out of the corner of my eye I ducked instinctively, and saw it was Butch putting the lid back on his record box, he laughed when I said ' bloody hell Butch I thought you were gonna belt me with that then' I was laughing too.....well, I mean.....you don't want to be getting on his bad side do you .......
Guest davew Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 (edited) The friendly locals used to throw bricks at us and ambush us on route from the bus stop to the Fleet aound 79.. Ady Croasdell Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 (edited) is this the low point of this site??? f**kin fighting.,.,.,site owners are you so desperate!!! Or alternatively swearing? It's nothing to do with the site owners, some of us just like a gossip and to reminiscence, which sometimes give us a laugh. This is our playground and there's a lot of big kids about who enjoy playtime. As Ty Karim would sing it, Lighten Up Baby. Edited November 5, 2007 by rachel

Guest MissHongkongfuey Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 still loads of big skinnyheads although no nazi salutes thank god !...to be fair i only do a few rallies nowadays and although i didnt witness it ive been told there were a couple of incidents at exmouth this year....sometimes it just seems theres an underlying atmosphere where the smallest thing could result in it kickin off, something i never feel amoungst the biggest tuffest lookin soulies....or maybe im gettin paro in my old age!! Afraid to say there are still Nazi salutes Went to Shires last year with my mate, who was greeted on the door of the soul room by a young girl and her dad (she was no older than 14/15) with a nazi salute! I wanted to kick the little ba**ard all over the place. My friend rarely attends a rally or club event now. It wasn't a one off. She sticks with the soul scene now but is a scooterist through and through and shouldn't have to tolerate this kind of abuse.
Jules Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I saw a couple of guys get set upon on the balcony at the casino early one sunday morning, think it was drug releted
Alan Pollard Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I Only remember one fight, it was at the Old Vic in the late eighties, some chaps had a big Bust up over a woman!!! Well there you go, what its all about!! Laughs Mal Hi Mal, I was reading all the previous posts to yours about fighting on the soul scene and my wife Judi and I agreed that the only bit of trouble we ever saw was one night at The Old Vic in about 1988 when some of locals had a bit of a do over a young lady and I was talking to Dave Evison who was DJ'ing at the time and an empty pint glass came flying towards us and we ducked and it smashed on the wall behind us, but what a concidence that your post was the next one we read. The Old Vic was a great venue with Pep at the helm, had some great nights there, we attended nearly everyone and we used to travel from Stockport, that's how much we enjoyed it. Regards Alan
Guest Brett F Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 (edited) To be honest i've seen a load of skirmishes between folks at various do's over the last 27 years, nothing major like i've seen at football matches but i think there is some misguided opinion that soul people haven't got all the flaws and emotions of "civilians"( couldn't think of a term for non soulies)...Only a few years back saw some fellas kicking hell out of each other outside the chalets on the grass at Prestatyn at around 8am...very surreal after a long day/night...........i felt like diving straight in.
