At least i bothered to look.Dont know much about him got a couple of things on Mankind more gospel than soul, and he does a brill virsion of the hurt.

HE'S FROM NASHVILLE, SO HIS MAM SAYS. WORKED FOR THE NASHBORO RECORDS SET UP FOR A TIME AND A PART TIME DJ FOR WLAC IN NASHVILLE. HAD A COUPLE OF BIG HITS ON MANKIND IN THE EARLY 70T'S.

BRI.

Fleetwood Mac did the original of "I Loved Another Woman". Really - it's on either their first or second Blue Horizon LP (I can't be bothered to go into the attic and check which one at quarter to six in the morning...)

His best record is "Did I Come Home To Soon (Or Did I Stay Away Too Long)" on Mankind, which confronts the dilemma of returrning to the house and finding your wife in bed with another woman. Presumably not the 'another woman' of 'I Loved Another Woman' fame...

Thanks, say hello to his mam!

I put some lovely footage of him up on youtube, from 1965...sadly now gone....if I ever get the chance or inclination to do it all again that'll be one of the first clips I put back up

Check out his "I've Got To Hold Back" on A-BET as well, I think it's a superb punchy dancer. The original 45 is very rare, but the tune is easily available on the fine Kent CD "Uptown Down South". :g:

Freddie recorded the classic Deep Soul album " Friend " for Mankind records in the early 70's , essential for Deep Soul collectors .One of his most famous records was " She's all I got " a country tinged ballad , released on this side of the pond on MOJO records .Most of his records are in a Deep Soul vein , " I have a dream " on UK President is another goodie , as is his version of Big Maybelle's " Oh Lord , what are you doing to me " .Hope this helps ,Best ,Eddie

Forgot to mention that he also recorded for Sun subsidiary Phillips International in 1961, which I think was his first record...

Eddie,

I've just added, his A-Bet version "Oh Lord, what are you doing to me " to my little early-doors DJ box. Damn wonderful record, can't wait to play it.

Talking of outstanding deep-cum-shufflers, have you got or heard Jimmy Randolf - Doorsteps to sorrow - Roman or Mainstream.. another killer tune, i'm playing at home at the 'mo, but would like to transfer it to early doors sets.

Hello John , glad you like Oh ,lord , just got " Doorstep to sorrow " on a Jap Mainstream CD ,excellent , my says Rudolph Randolph tho ' ? Best Wishes ,Eddie

Hearsay is a dangerous thing, but. I remember someone in Nashville telling me that Freddie North is only a stage name. That he is a very private person and does not like talking about his music career, nowdays ? Have to look back through some old notes to see if I can find anything else. He also worked as a DJ in Nashville, I believe under the name Freddie North

Same fella as "the hurt" on RIK is it?.his 6ts live seems not to exist on the net.
