Guest Hunnymon Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Anyone catch The Stylistics on GMTV this morning? Looked good and sounded great- infact I was late for work due to watching the performance (on around 7.45am). The lead singer looks and sounds like Russel Thompkins Jnr but he seems way too young to be him. Apparently they are starting quite a large UK tour and I wouldn't mind catching them somewhere on the strength of this mornings performance.

Just got this piece of information from the GMTV site. One of the greatest soul groups of the 1970s are releasing their greatest hits album and embarking on a UK tour It's nearly forty years on since famous soul group The Stylistics were first established back in 1968. They made a huge impact on the UK music scene with their memorable hit "Betcha by Golly Wow!" in 1972. Now they're back with a new greatest hits album, 'The Very Best Of The Stylistics' which is coinciding with a massive UK tour starting Saturday 27th October 2007 in Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall. The group now comprises of original band members Herbie Murrell and Airrion Love, plus Harold 'Eban' Brown and Van Fields, who both joined the group in 2000. The tour dates are on the site here as well https://www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=27297 Dam! there's nothing really near Sheffield
Dave Moore Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) Russell Thompkins Jr has also reformed the group under the name "Russell Tompkins and The New Stylistics". Dave Fergie and I spoke to him in Philadelphia a few weeks ago. He looked great. H'es part of the Bobby Eli produced Three Tenors CD. It's a great new CD that's out now I think. PS. Their playing in Margate 24th November and staying in the hotel just down the road form the first anniversary night of Stolen Hours so we might drop them some comp tickets to see if they want to pop down for a boogie after the show.
Ian Dewhirst Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Typical that the group on tour doesn't feature Russell Thompkins Jnr - to many the real voice of the Stylistics - could anyone else sing "Betcha By Golly Wow" with the clarity and perfection that he did? Hope the gigs are priced accordingly! Still be fun though.......... Ian D
