Eddie Hubbard Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Big thanks to the good folk at Ace / Kent for the new CD compiling material from Larry Banks , the famed New York arranger , obviously the big selling point will be the inclusion of the brilliant Milton Bennett " Whats one more lie " , but there's so much more, like the stunning big city ballads , in particular the 3 from Kenny Carter " You better get hip girl " [ a great song , transformed from a tambourine rattling Pied Piper production as recorded by Freddy Butler , into an awsome big voiced beater , " I can't stop laughing " which sounds like it was cut at the same session as " Showdown " , and lastly " Lights out " a wonderful version of the Zerban Hicks classic ender .Also great is the future Northern classic , " My life is no better " by The Dynamics , the fantastic beat ballad " Living in the land of heartache " by The Cavaliers , which is very Kenny Carter in style , the great stripped down outtake of Jaibi's " You got me " plus the flip side of that particular ' 45 " What good am I " .Highly recommended , Dave Godin would have been very proud .Best ,Eddie
Guest biggray1 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Eddie can you tell us if this Cd is available yet!and where to get a copy please. Gray.
Sebastian Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) I agree, it's a superb CD. Great liner notes as well (and as ususal from Kent/Ace). I'd also like to recommend the "Can't Be Satisfied - The XL And Sounds Of Memphis Story" CD which was released in the same batch. And the fabulous Main Ingredient "Singles 1967-1975" CD compiled by our very own Tony Rounce! Finally a decent compilation with The Main Ingredient (and it contains a couple of early Insiders tracks as well). And also, for those of you who are into that kind of stuff... the absolutely WONDERFUL "Gerry Goffin and Carole King Song Collection 1961-1967" CD which also was released very recently. These have all been released (we're selling them from the record store I work in anyway...) and should be available from pretty much everywhere. www.amazon.co.uk definitely have them.
