Guest nubes
=============== Why would you ask for an opinion on whether you should or shouldn't wear them? Have the courage of your convictions, wear what you're comfortable in and don't listen to the detractors. Absolutely....at our age now....why bother what folk think ???...you are not asking if mass genocide is right are ya??? wear what the hell you want too.. You probably wouldn't come across them much in the outside world, cos it's doubtful that they'd go to the same venues as you anyway. It's a well known fact that people who wear bags don't like upfront stuff and are just stuck in the past.......... Or belong to soul tribute bands ahem.....Delxxx Link to comment Social source share

Sanquine
well thats telling me lol i wouldnt wear heels in the bed room lol but thought i would ask as when i dont wear baggies i get asked why thats really why i asked not sure anymore ah sod in the bin they go . Wasn't sure if it was a wind up or serious question tbh, great sense of humor.. Though I'm surprised you get asked why you don't wear baggies when in jean's as that's today's fashion, I've never been asked why I don't wear the Full circle skirt's, white ankle sock's n moccasan shoe's I used to wear, when baggies were the fashion 30 yrs ago... Wouldn't ask if I should or shouldn't wear heal's in the bedroom I'd just wear em you should do the same...... mean the baggies not the heel's If that's what you really prefer and feel comfey with... Supercorsa
wear what you want really...me, i wear baggies etc, cant dance in anything else ..just does not feel right ? - That's your opinion what do people think ? well, to me it keeps "northern soul alive in a visual way, (bit like a renactment group i guess) - you listen to soul with your ears not your eyesonly comments i have ever had is such things as "where did you get them ?, they look superb etc... - and where were their tongues in relation to their cheeks? and to me they do give the "look" of northern soul , just as full circle skirts do for the girls.... there is just somthing nostalgic and wonderful about "how it was"... it adds that extra "something" to any soul nite...putting on something special, making an effort, living the life , walkin the walk and talkin the talk ! sure, some don't feel good about them anymore, clothes don't make the soulie - if clothes don't make a soulie why do you try to keep "northern soul alive in a visual way? , but it's not about that, it's keeping it alive for yourself, 18 again for just a few hours, i was at Brighouse the other month, talking to a fellow soul clothes wearer, we were talking about the fantasic atmosphere it has there, then he said to me imagine if everyone made the effort and dressed for the nite? ....well neck hairs prickled as i visualised it ..wow what a nite that would be. baggies are not so available now , mine are still made to mesure at the same shop as in 75...by the same wonderful guy. we are in the minority for sure, but they sure as hell look better on a dancer than tight jeans and a flowery shirt,... - that's your opinion not mine just another thought... people who dress in a way that follows their style of music or whatever always look good, it's what you expect to see, it's how it is, imagine teddy boys or rock n' rollers , punks, skinheads, goths, emo's, etc all wearing "normal "clothes....does'nt add up does it ? keep wearing them, don't ask others , do what you believe.....and for those that slagg us off, well take a peak in the mirror too eh? casper.... keepin the faith, inside and out ! As for the original post wear what you want. My opinion is that baggies and vests on middle age men look bloody ridiculous. Link to comment Social source share

Phild
I think people should wear what they want. Never understood people slagging folks off for what they wear etc. I never had a problem with 43" baggies. In fact the trouser bottoms fit nicely round my waist these days Phil Link to comment Social source share
Guest andrew bin
wear what ever you feel comfortable in (don't know why you need to ask the question) and i for one wouldn't take any fashion tips off any of the gypos on here, people in glass houses and all that it's been a least a week since the last baggies thread Edited October 22, 2007 by andrew bin Link to comment Social source share
Casper
As for the original post wear what you want. My opinion is that baggies and vests on middle age men look bloody ridiculous. That's your opinion yes it is .. for me....thats me... not everyone ... not you you listen to soul with your ears not your eyes true...then put it to your feet n' dance...unless you have become a "chin stroker? besides i would not want to not see and trip over my 1" turnups and where were their tongues in relation to their cheeks? hey , if they say nice things thats ok is it not, if they don't mean it , well ok too ... but what would the point in making the effort to say such things to a person ? oh well if clothes don't make a soulie why do you try to keep "northern soul alive in a visual way? cos its good fun and does keep alive visualy and with tradition the image of what it was at the time some of us of an age group were there..? that's your opinion not mine yes it is.. Guest Trevski
In the words of the great Frankie.. "Nay, nay and thrice times nay!" Not a good look today, methinks. As I have mentioned before, it just reminds me of the 'Sad old Teds' scenario, of 40-odd year old Teddy-boys we used to laugh at when we were 16-17 and wearing baggies. Anyone wearing 'em now are just as laughable. As for circle skirts, leave 'em in the back of the wardrobe, please! They were ok when they covered lithe young legs. Saw someone in one recently. Did a spin, skirt flares out, legs like old Stilton! AArrghh! Not a pretty sight! Edited October 23, 2007 by Trevski Link to comment Social source share

Guest Ollie Lailey
Being in my 20's would feel like a bit of a twat putting on a a pair of "baggies" and to be honest it can look a bit naff. However when at weekenders it does put a smile on my face seeing loads of blokes in the uniform of black baggies and black bowling shirts (with fist patch on chest) and shoes. I like the nostagia of it (even though i was not alive in the 70's) so good luck to em. Also I try to imagine these fellas just popping down the shops for a pint of milk in all the gear. Dont really ever see people in the "uniform" in london. Link to comment Social source share

Dont really ever see people in the "uniform" in london. LOL.. I'm going to remember that next time I see someone dressed like that.. I know what you mean about the nostalgia but it makes the scene even more different for us as the casino & original venue's weren't full of guys dressed in gear that was 30 years out of fashion... Don't have a clue who Tweedle Dum is. You? No the other leg comes in useful too. you simply sew up the narrow end, then when someone annoys you too much, then wide end over the 'ead, bit of gaffer tape. In the boot of the car and off to ilkley moor we go. Baht 'at of course (might stand out otherwise). Ah nostalgia ..... Link to comment Social source share
Guest
I dont think there is anything wrong with wearing baggies so long as you can carry them off, similiar to other 60/70's fashion styles which people are still wearing today such as Two Tone trouser suits, Ben Sherman shirts with braces & Doc Martins, but if you are bursting at the seams probably best to have a change of style.
