Guest soul99 easylay Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 No honestly ! i really do ! I like it as a great tuneful pop/soul record that i loved at the youth club . & to really nail my colours to the mast i've just been upstairs to fetch it . & to prove it's not a fake i have put a relevant note with it Don't care what people say me ! I love all types of music & this old favourite is one of them ! I'll give you 99p for it Methinks you are winding me up ? If not, please accept my apologies for upsetting you, can't say i will ever be a fan but will respect your feelings .. sorry - I am winding you up - but only about Maggie T - not Jim Gilstrap!
Guest Bearsy Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 This thread has ended up being the funniest thing i have ever been apart of on the web site and bogue this just tops it off how the heck am i meant to sleep now cos i cant stop crying with laughter pmsl bigtime
SteveM Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I can't believe he's got an original copy of something
Guest Bogue Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I'll give you 99p for it sorry - I am winding you up - but only about Maggie T - not Jim Gilstrap! Swine ! Never selling ! It's a piece of personal memorabilia now thanks It's funny really, i gave most of my 70's disco records away to a mate, inclueding stuff that went on to be Northern favourites, but i did keep that one for some reason. As i said, just nostalgia.
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Not to play on the Northern soul scene but ok for a mobile disco (gave me idea for a thread)
Guest Bogue Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I can't believe he's got an original copy of something Ooh you bitch !!

As Baz Lurhman said "Nostalgia is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth." - but personally, I think that's a load of old pish - hence my love of the tune too
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I have got this somewhere,in with all me tosh!!

I'm dreading the day that Moggy finds out theres more than the Fantasy Football thread on this site.
Guest Bogue Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) if you did that to me i wouldnt be your mate anymore Bearsy there was good disco stuff too you know ! It's bloody anoying really because i have ended up having to buy a few that i ditched back ! Few that come to mind ; 'Gentlemen & their Lady - Like Her, Hosana - Hip It , Archie Bell - Where will you go e.t.c. , Alfie Kahn - Law of the Land, Double Exposure - Ten Per Cent, could go on ! In fact one arrived today that i had before, Persuaders - Two Women / The quickest way. Edited October 18, 2007 by Bogue

Bazza Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 QUOTE(Steve G @ Oct 18 2007, 11:12 PM) So back to the theme of this thread - Jim Gilstrap "Swing your daddy" - absolute cr*p record. Except for JWVB and Jellybean who appear to like it. And Bazza! Yeah ,but the soul police dont bother with me ,cos I will not conform ,and if they came to arrest me ,I would tell em to Phuck off Bazza
Guest Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I know that Side Effect - "Run, Run, Run" has had a spin or two at soul nights, but what about Jim Gilstraps biggest hit "Swing Your Daddy" - which of you DJs would give this a spin in your set? I think it's just peachy Juat started to read the first few replys on this post honestly who said humour is dead pissing myself here some brillant comebacks it is a shit tune though keep up the banter started to feel sorry for the guy who started this for a second anyway set yourself up there me thinks SOULFULLY KIERAN
Harrogatesoul Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Aye not Jim's best moment by a long stretch.. However I DO like 'Love Talk' on Roxbury. Funniest thread I've read for ages. Best Rich

You lot can metaphorically dance around me and poke the simpleton with sticks - but I won't give in - it's a top tune

Godzilla Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 This thread ought to be merged with the Ain't No Mountain High Enough one to show double standards at work Not that I'd play either of them unless it was school disco night mind you. And if it was, here's another that is over due for revival... Especially for you Mr Wilson's Voice Box. Download Video Youtube Link
