Brav Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) Hi All We are a team of 3 Northern Soulies in our 50ts who have been life long friends, Thats me Steve Bratherton (Brav), Andrew Norburn & Austen Jones (Aussie). We are embarking on a Car Banger Rally to Scandinavia and back, some 4000 miles in a car that cost less than £100 pounds with 100 other teams who have the same £100 restrictive budget. It all sounds a bit crazy, well it is and that's the whole point ! will we make it ! who knows. Our car is a 1971 Triumph 2000 rescued from a scrap yard and has already competed in one event to Rome and back in 2006 raising £6000 for Cancer Research. I say Rome and back but it did'nt make it all the way back as the rear Subframe broke in half due to corrosion. It has now been Repaired and is ready to rumble again.. Some of you out there may have seen the car parked at venues up and down the country and believe me, it does attract attention. Anyway to get to the point we are looking for Businesses to sponsor us, in return your company Logo will be put on our car which is fantastic advertising for your company. I would like to point out that the cost of the car, petrol, hotels, ferries and anything else you can think of, comes out of our own pockets, so that all the money you donate goes to Cancer Research. If you have a company and are interested please e-mail me at steve_bratherton@hotmail.com or you can PM me. I also have a website with more info at www.brav.co.uk or if you just want to make a donation no matter how small, go to www.justgiving.com/brav Please note that full details of the rally are not available at the moment but should be within the next 2 weeks. To the Mods !!! sorry for posting in all about soul but wanted maximum publicity. Pictures of our car below are with sponsorship from 2006. Edited October 17, 2007 by Brav
Guest kev such Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Top form Brav. Excellent. The only thing i ask is that when you get back and you offer to give me and Karen a lift anywhere and she buys a new outfit to go in your supposed stretch limo type £100 banger. We will get a taxi. Good luck Mate, see you in December. Kev and Karen.
southandnorth Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 FANTASTIC The Three men in Orange going another trip, think the big man may slow you down mate. Kev

Brav Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Hi All Have just updated my website with a small profile of our team members. Just to give you some idea of who we are. Check it out at www.brav.co.uk
Brav Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Hi All We need a Team Name for our venture to Scandinavia and want it to be Northern Soul based. Anyone out there got any idea's ? the funnier the better. If we get a good response i will do a Poll on them so that Soul Sourcer decide.
southandnorth Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Hi Brav With regards to the name I think "STAX of POWER", now this is more likely to mean the stax of power you 3 northern lads will need, when you have to push it on the last leg of the journey. Or the stax of power your CD player will need when you are playing all them northern tracks! Joking aside I think you are brilliant doing something like this, for cancer research! I have faith in you Brav. Gloria x

Brav Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 Hi Mate, What about the name Funk of soul. Kev Nice one mate. Just thought of one myself, how about this Team name Ric-Tic Rust Bucket Come on all you soulies out there, Give us a few funny team names related to the soul scene.
Brav Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 (edited) Hi All Full details of the Rally have now been published at www.valhallarun.com The start of the Rally is in Copenhagen and the finish is in Helsinki via Sweden & Norway. Getting to the start in a £100 car is a tough job in itself, never mind driving round half of the Artic circle. Getting back from Finland is another epic journey. travelling through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and France. Not sure of the milage but it must be close to 2000 miles and all in a rusty Triumph 2000 bought for £100 pounds. We must be mad !!!!! What have i let myself in for !!!!! Anyway if there's anyone out there that would like to sponsor us, no matter how small your donation, as Tesco would say "Every little helps" you can do at www.justgiving.com/brav Edited October 24, 2007 by Brav
