Guest Trevski Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) Capitals-"Cant deny.." Omen. This, for me, has got to be one of the finest female vocals on vinyl. The quality, phrasing, range and resonance of her voice is a joy to the ears, but... anyone know who it is? (Sound very Martha Reeve'sy to me but it's not. Just a similar style) PS I know its big ££$$ but if anyone want's to part with it....... TREVSKI, STEVE COOPER IS YOUR MAN he had a mint copy of this that he got from MILES GRAYSON direct some years before the legand that is IAN CLARKE first played it at YATE. because I went straight round on the sunday after YATE and got it for £26 . STEVE knew MILES GRAYSON, LEN JEWELL and LYNN VERNADO personally so he would have the info you want.

It was written by Zelpha Crawford who was a member of the Wodden Nickels, also on Omen, along with Dorothy Berry and Oma Heard; perhaps it is one of them on lead. It sounds like Oma Heard, but slightly deeper. She did record on Motown, some duets with Marvin Gaye, but they were wrongly attributed them to Oma Page (Gene & Billy's sister)
Bossfourpart1 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hi , i love the track and while hearing it at different venues ,i have heard introduced as Celeste Hardy on lead vocal... Unfortunately there isn't any hard solid "info" to support this only the detail that Celeste Hardy has a cracking voice too. Good enough for me until the true Artist is unveiled . cheers Frank

Celeste Hardy's earliest recording I can locate was 1970 and she's did all her credited 45s in Oakland, Ca. in the seventies for Reynolds and Loadstone, a ways north of L.A. I know little about Celeste but there seems to be little evidence to confirm she's on the Capitals vocal. . Coops or Tim Ash may know the Capitals line-up, as they both knew Miles Grayson well.
