Starting up a new thread, as suggested by the moderators, so's not to interfere with Pete Smith's sales item.

In answer to John Manship's query and Pottsy's comments, I just wanted (and needed ... ha, ha!!) to say that my copy - as played at Easington on Saturday - doesn't jump at all. However it does seem a little quiet, which may confirm what Pottsy was saying about the two different runs.

I don't know how the two different run in/out grooves match up, as unfortunately I don't have a 2nd copy to compare it to.

Would be good to know which type the demos are, although I have been told by a very reliable source that the one he had did not jump.

Presumably there is only one type of demo, which may suggest that the non-jumping quieter run is the 1st press?

Not knocking the price that Pete is selling his copy on commision for....but £4500 could buy you a lot of very good £10 - £100 records rather than just one (although a very, very good one) 45.

Just can't imagine handing over such a large amount of money for one record.....then again if I was loaded then I guess I wouldn't think twice about it :D

Bit pricey when you consider Shifty sold a demo a couple of years back for £700...

Must have been broken in half...but cheers for helping me try to sell it anyway

You sure about that Russ? I don't remember that at all. The last Demo I saw sold was 2200UKP. That was well over 2 years ago. 700 quid? Surprised he still ain't got the teethmarks in his wrist!

What did the demo sell for on evil bay ?, seem to remember it looked like it had gone 9 rounds with Ricky Hatton but as normal the seller reckoned it played OK !!!

was this about 18 months ago and around $2000 ???

It's all relative. This is probably the best copy ever offered for sale - anywhere. Plus it's previous owner was the person who recorded the record. It's mint.

£700, you sure there wasn't another 0 on the end?

£700 for a WHITE DEMO of Gwen Owens!! if it was a recent sale, is quite frankly laughable.... Pete your price is fine, condition is everything.

I'm very interested in this TWO runs theory.. There has to be TWO different matrix's. If there is, can someone add the exact matrix they have on their copy.

Our copy in stock at the 'mo the scratched-in matrix reads:

SI-C10003 A SOUND INC.

you can feel this matrix with your fingertips, the markings have an indentation appearence deadwax is 6.55mm wide at the "S". Interesting the flipside seems to have been "mastered" totally differently with a wide deadwax of 16.44mm wide with the matrix certainly written by a different hand.

has anyone got a different master plate markings??

Depends how you look at it John. Looking in from the outside it may seem laughable to you, but what you have to remember is that the person that Shifty sold it too is a good friend of his. And I may add a very good friend of mine too. It's all about a two way traffic system, helping each other, NOT just taking or trying to screw the last pound out of each other. I know for a fact that these two fellas have both helped me in the past thumbsup.gif So, yes it was a recent sale, & like Russ has said...a nice white demo for £700.

Regards,

pottsy.

Doesn't qualify as a proper sale on the open market then does it if he's reducing it for a mate. I sell loads of records cheap to people who buy off me all the time but nobody ever hears about them.

That's right Pete. That's why I explained what had gone on in my post.

Right then John, matrix markings.

My copy is the quieter one which doesn't jump.

The Wanted and Needed side reads:

SI-C10003-A SOUND INC. 344

so there's a dash between the 3 and the A, plus the additional number 344 lightly scratched in.

The flip, as you say, is also scratched in but with clearly different handwriting, and reads:

SI-C10004 B Side 344

A side deadwax is 12mm wide (approx). B side deadwax is 16mm wide (approx).

So it looks like two different presses.

Can anyone tell us what the demo matrix markings and deadwax widths are please?

Doh ! pottsy's "THEORY" looks like it just became a "FACT" john.

Now have a look at the wax on the white demo, you'll find that interesting.

pottsy

Potsy,

The law of averages said you'd get something right eventually

But I wasn't questioning your wisdom, I was just asking for varification so it became factual. So what is the WHITE DEMO matrix and deadwax widths? So we can conclude this query eg does the DEMO match Peter Richer's low volume copy or the copy we have.

Ooof, as I sit here & shake my head in total disbelief at your venomous reply john laugh.gif

But...ahem...at least I own all the records that you & I debate so vigorously :D
