Guest Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Sure that this must have been done loads of times but with the search feature not working at the moment I can't find any old threads on it. Anyway could someone please confirm hoe to spot an original Champion black/silver 45? I've got one on the bay at the moment, didn't really match any of the descriptions in JMs book so I just assumed it was a boot, but had a question from someone on ebay asking if I'm really sure if it's a boot or not. It's vinyl, and scratched into the deadwax is AZ 14003-B. Must admit the label does look good: Cheers, Adam.

Hi Adam Here's one of the recent threads regarding Gloria Jones >>> LINK <<< I have two Originals & two Boots <-- Both are Original <-- Both are Boots It can be difficult, especially with the Black Label Copy Edited October 9, 2007 by 45cellar
Ted Massey Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 (edited) Hi Rog you must have one of the biggest collections of orginals and matching boots any one beat you Edited October 9, 2007 by Tedsoul
45cellar Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 (edited) Hi Rog you must have one of the biggest collections of orginals and matching boots any one beat you Hi Ted Most of the Boots I bought in the Early days, but I kept them. The Originals I bought a little later from Soul Bowl & at the time for not too much more than the Boots. There are of course many Boots for Gloria Jones. & on the subject of Originals there is the corresponding DEMO & Stock Copy for Gloria Jones. same designs as my Sandy Wynns below. I may be wrong (probably am) but I think that Gloria Jones on this design Black Champion Label hasn't been Booted. I nearly bought one for £20 Eight Years ago but funds were a bit low, never seen one since, wish I had bought it now. Edited October 9, 2007 by 45cellar
John Benson Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 That Black one above of Sandy Wynns - is the same design label of my Gloria Jones, bought from someone at the St Ives nighter around 1977 ish who had just come back from the states. It's got a small dark Star printed on the A side if I remember correctly - I'd post a scan up of it if I could remember where its 'filed away'! I don't think it was ever booted on this design either
John Benson Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 (edited) Found it For the 'trainspotters' - In the dead wax is scratched the Delta symbol and 56960X No Monarch records (MR) stamp though, but I've a few others like that so it's nothing to be concerned about I was right about the stamp on the A side (My bad boy's comin' home) - it's only just visible on the black background, maybe it's some sort of 'unofficial' plug side mark? I've no idea what sort of price to put on it these days though? It's not for sale anyway... I wonder who it would have been who I bought it from all those years ago? The Original Black Styrene is - Monarch Stamped Delta # 56960X I'll have to check the Black Boot copy I scanned it is Styrene and I think the Matrix is Monarch Stamped Delta # 99069 same as Bootleg Guide States There is a Black Vinyl Boot of this design which I don't have. Steve G Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 The first boot was on on a dark green Label Yes this is the one I got originally when "duped" as a 16 year old by one of the older Wigan / Wheel faithful on my first or second visit. I paid £2 for it I think and was told it was an original. Same thing happened with another "record bar box seller" and Sam & Kitty Anyway these toss pots did do me one favour, taught me that older guys with record boxes may well not be telling the truth .
Jerry Hipkiss Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Same thing happened with another "record bar box seller" and Sam & Kitty To be fair Steve, even quite recently one highly respected dealer was still unsure about that first Sam and Kitty pressing (assuming it was that cream couloured one which weighs quite heavy!)

45cellar Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 (edited) It has "AZ" scratched in the runout... Thanks Jerry, One thing about Tainted Love that never changes for me, from first hearing it I was blown away & If I'm honest it still does. Gloria gives a fantastic performance, she should have had a hit record with this one. This BOOT was the first copy that I bought 'cause it was the only way I could get it on Vinyl at the time, I suppose I didn't ask If it was Original, I loved the record so much I just had to have a copy. I think if most people were honest they'd have to agree Roger, but as they say "familiarity breeds contempt". Just take a moment to think back at the effect that it had, loud, at your favourite niter...goosebumps alert!
Guest Netspeaky Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 One of the big disappointments, got home from the Casino, put on my new acquired copy of "Tainted Love" boot and thought I'd been ripped off with a different version, I just couldn't get my head around the tune without the Casino handclaps, if you weren't there then this will be hard to understand. Played off vinyl in my own room just didn't have the same effect as the hugh buzz it gave me on hearing at the Casino with all that hand clapping atmosphere driving it along.
