BrianB Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I have just pre-ordered this double CD for £10.99 inc p&p from WWW.Play.com The track listing looks interesting. I have heard or got quite a few of the tracks, but never heard of the Ivy Jo Hunter track. Can anyone shed any light on it?

I was in the studio when CFM3 was being mastered and all I can say is WOW. This is the best you will ever get to hear these tracks. The chief engineer at Universal, Gary Moore, loving coaxed the sounds out of ,sometimes, muffled recordings. You won't be disappointed - I was astounded at the transformation of some of the tracks....the Temptations in particular was an early recording and it sounds sparkling. Hope that helps. Jo

Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 can't wait for this to come out but is it all unissued ie first time on cd and again not avaliable on record (accetate etc usually etc)
Guest Paul Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 One track in particular is essential... "I'm Here Now That You Need Me" by JJ Barnes Paul Mooney
Wilxy Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Fair do's. looks an interesting compilation, and as a Motown enthusiast, it is great to hear unissued material.I must add that I've only heard a few of the tracks listed, so await it's release with great expectation.......
BrianB Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 Paul Nixon is the compiler - he also compiled 1&2. I was in the studio when CFM3 was being mastered and all I can say is WOW. Jo Thanks Jo, Vol 1 was great, but I have to admit to being a little disappointed with Vol 2. It came out more like another Motown Sings Motown Treasures than keeping the spirit to Vol 1. I am hopeful that this will get the series back on track. Thanks, BrianB
BrianB Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 Has antone got a copy yet? If so, what are the goodies? Was expecting mine today but no luck!
Makemvinyl Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 been listening and reccomend most of the trax and a couple or 4 need carving and playing out. buy the cd and keep the series hot

Bigsoulman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Having just bought the above via downloads can anybody tell me if the 2 Spinners tracks on it are unreleased, a bit up and down for me with this volume but there are some astounding tracks on it Lenny
Bigsoulman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Yep both unreleased Thanks for that, astonishing really that some of the tracks on it were overlooked by "quality control" Lenny
TheBigO Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 There are some blinding toons on this one and lots get better with every play so keep with them. Contours 'Jealousy', great to see it get a legit airing at long last, and what a belting toon that is.
Pete S Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Well I've only listened to disc one so far but apart from maybe 2 tracks, that lot should have been kept locked in the cellar and the key thrown away.
Guest Simon Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Great CD! 'You're Walking Out With My Heart - Brenda Holloway' (My fave so far!) Simon
BrianB Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 I was probably one of the first in the country to pre-order it, and will be the bloody last to receive it! No sign of it yet. Thanks Play.com!

Pete S Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 The sound you can hear is that of a f*cking big barrel being scraped, some tracks remained outtakes for a good reason and this double cd has around 40 of them. The good stuff could fit onto a 7" single. The rest is so sub standard that's it's quite embarrassing and the compiler should consider a career elsewhere. I'm pretty sure that this is the most inept and useless Motown compilation I've heard since The Temptations Perform The Hits of Joy Division. I paid something like £12 for this at HMV yesterday, if anyone wants it for a fiver and 50p post, please PM me.
Guest Paul Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 As soul45s said, you can download the album (or individual tracks) from 7digital at £7.99 for 45 tracks. It works out at less than 18p per track but they are WMA files and need to be converted / unlocked. Napster charge £12.95 for the same downloads, iTunes don't have it "in stock" yet ...or maybe they've "sold out"? By the way, it's odd that HMV online charge £12.99 for the downloads yet the physical 2 CD set is only £8.99 from HMV if you order it online! But over the counter at HMV it's £12.99, all of which is a bit confusing. Anyway, I really like the JJ Barnes track in particular.
Epic Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I am really liking The Lollipops "Sweet Sweet Love"
Pete S Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I am really liking The Lollipops "Sweet Sweet Love" If that was the last track on cd 2, that was the best "Northern" track on there though the vocals weren't great. If it wasn't, it was rubbish
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) ...As always, a nice blend of tracks you'd want to hear again and again and a few you'll wish you'd never heard even once (Little Miss Soul - particularly appalling, it's not so much a case of 'you can see why she was left in the can' 'you can't see why she was ever recorded in the first place...') I absolutely adored the Spinners' 'Too Late I Learned' and thought that the Headliners' "This Is Goodbye" was an absolute stormer despite it's pancake-flat lead vocals (this is the track that Pete's referring to in the previous posting). Shorty Long sang Fats Domino very nicely, and both the unissued Brenda's are not only up to par, they are above it - as are two great Joe Stubbs-led Contours tracks and the brilliant "Judge's Daughter" by the Originals. I know I'm probably the only person on here who will think that the Bob Kayli track is good, but there's actually a first rate Smokey Robinson song and a killer groove under Bob's corny narration. And even the rotten rock guitar solo can't spoil that wonderful Four Tops 1980s cut... But I'm afraid that I have the same beef I always have with these unissued Motown sets - that is, that they contain almost no downtempo cuts or out and out ballads. I do not believe for a minute that the people who buy these are exclusively interested in mid-to-uptempo material, anymore than do I believe that there are no unissued slowies in the Motown vaults. Perhaps the compiler would like to bear that in mind if there's to be a next time around? Please? (As long as they are not by Little Miss Soul, Paul... ) Edited October 22, 2007 by TONY ROUNCE
Guest Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Pity there's nothing from Hearts of Stone - we live in hope
