boba Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 And yet... I love the other stuff by the same guys as the Enchanted Five especially "Darling, I Need You Now" and "Have You Ever". Sean, are you saying that the Enchanted Five are the same group as the Ultimates on Br-roma? I've never heard of that. My friend found one of the members by accident, Donny Scales. Donny said that he was also in the Segments of Time on Sussex (and he has a really nice gospel soul record on gloryland) but he didn't mention the ultimates on Br-roma.

ITS THE DIVERSITY OF THE SOUL SCENE THAT MAKES IT SO GREAT I MEAN WE ALL CANT BE RIGHT CAN WE? SO DOES THIS MEAN I CAN COME ROUND WITH THE JAFFAS AND NAE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING MADE INTO A LOLLYPOP WITH A RED HOT POKER GASHER
Tomangoes Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Considering how many 70s records that have been played at one time or another, there is no excuse for any tune being overplayed. DJs should put any record thats been played to the back of the box, and then it should take a good 6 months before it pops up again, forcing fresh playlists every time. Same thing should apply to 60ts also. You know, play the top 500 backwards now and again. Think of it like those Arab Princes with 100 members of his harem, poor lad has to give em all a spin now and again. It must be a hard life for them lads. Ed

boba Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I got it from a Japanese CD I think either the Japanese CD is wrong or maybe there are common group members at best, but that they are not the exact same group. Does the Japanese CD include lineups or any other evidence, or does it just say that they're the same group? Thanks.

Does the Japanese CD include lineups or any other evidence, or does it just say that they're the same group? Thanks. Unfortrunately my Japanese ain't that good, but the impression is certainly that one became the other, and they had a common manager too. Maybe some members were different - might have to go and check in the Soul Harmonies Book.

Mark68 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Hey Ivor, good to see you on sunday. You couldn't go to a soul do in the south of england in the late 8ts without hearing Flowers and Melvin Moore. This used to get right on my thrupenny bits.
Shsdave Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 (edited) WHAT ABOUT THESE............. HAROLD MELVIN "PRAYIN" Have a copy of this, was played at 100club circa '84 sounded good as an alternative to some of the stuff played, today I would happily turn it into an ash tray, may have to take up smoking. Absolutely dreadful & I can't believe the amount of DJs who jump on this record thinking it's something special. Each to their own & everything but FFS ! Anyone wanna buy a mint UK demo, wonder why it's mint ? Edited October 9, 2007 by SHSDave
Steve Plumb Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 It's a shame cos imho most of the records mentioned in this thread are great (with the odd exception 'cough' Pioneers ) The problem is, when you look at the dance floor it's usually packed when one of these is playing, so it's difficult to blame the DJ! What bothers me personally, is when they are trotted out one after another! To me, that's the DJ just being lazy! In a dance floor driven scene, they are always going to be needed to pep up a dance floor BUT that's when the DJ should be looking to play summat different once he's/she's got them up! So, to me, hearing one or two 'overplayed' oldies in a set is no biggie as long as it's balanced with something semi-known, different or simply 'underplayed' btw Just got what i consider to be a future 'overplayed' 70's classic!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't know much about it at the mo' as it's unreleased and I have no idea who it is etc BUT after a number of plays, i'm convinced it's gonna be a biggun and (hopefully) one everyone will be moaning about hearing all the time in the future Cheers Steve

I think i need to clarify my position here..........If you look back to the first post on this you`ll see that i was saying the same thing........... Im certainly not saying any of them are bad,far from it in fact. Basically, every title thats been mentioned is a great record, its just that they`ve been too overplayed and seem to have lost their magic somewhat. I just feel they need a bit of a rest, thats all.....Its not like there`s nothing else to play is it..? Anyway, the dancefloor rules so i guess we`ll be hearing them for sometime yet eh...?

Lee Bates Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I feel its a shame that the subject of items being overplayed is ever an issue in the first place when there is still so much good stuff around that deserves to be heard. Djs...be brave and punters....suggest or demand!

Okay, hands up,i just dont like the record, never have in fact. As i started this thread,i thought i could take liberties and lump this one in just for good measure because it personally irritates me . But as usual, you cant get away with anything on here without someone pulling you up and i have heard it spun earlier in the year....... On a different note,if you speak to Max,give him my regards. Hes a top bloke and always has been Best,Ivor
