Simon M Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Good thread Ivor - Ill start with Charles Johnson Never tire of that one steve and his 45 on mighty mo is stunning too
Cunnie Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Sister Sledge - Love Don't Go Through No Changes In Me. Awful record & flogged to death. Titles too long as well.
Guest Ivor Jones Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Jessie Henderson "I did it again" Jesse James "If you want a love affair" Lou Rawls " see ya when etc" JESSE HENDERSON IS ONLY OVERPLAYED IN MY HOUSE SIMON
Simon M Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 JESSE HENDERSON IS ONLY OVERPLAYED IN MY HOUSE SIMON I talked to Binsey about it , first Dave T hammered it then you did for years .. I used to like it until you kept playing it

BELOYD "GET INTO YOUR LIFE" [20TH CENTURY] JEFF PERRY "LOVE DONT COME NO STRONGER" [ARISTA] PHYLIS HYMAN "YOU KNOW HOW TO LOVE ME " [ARISTA] Not sure I agree with Phyllis Hyman and Beloyd Ivor, but I'd happily wait a couple of years before hearing Gloria Scott "case of too much love making" again. Oh and that Channel 3 "sweetest thing" one does my head in now as well.

Sean Hampsey Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Ultimates "Girl I've Been Trying To Tell You" A Miserable pile of poo (IMO). (But then, maybe its not that I'm tired of hearing it... I just never liked it from the first time I heard it). Sean
Steve G Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Ultimates "Girl I've Been Trying To Tell You" A Miserable pile of poo (IMO). Sean shows how different we all are Sean - along with the Differences, The Ultimates is one of my favourite 70s sounds.
Dave Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Good thread!!! Some of the main offenders have been named, but I'll add: the other Perry - It Takes Heart, Alfie feckin Davidson. And any other limp-wristed elevator music that's the right tempo for the beer monsters to shuffle along to, whilst proclaiming they like moddunn.

Guest Darks Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Not sure about negative topics "Time is right for love" just sick to the back teeth with this one. Great record, great credentials and all that, but please get over it. A bit more millage in the other side "If I don't love you" and a great version of it by the Choice Four on RCA album. "Independant woman" what a load of pony. You only have to look at Brett Franklin's Playlist, on the Media thread from the Saun Robbins show, to see what you can do with a bit of effort. Still not sure if that translates onto the dance floor. More recent offenders are Solo "Blowing my mind" and Sean Oliver "You and me". I admit to playing them as new realeases but did'nt think I'd still be hearing them 10 years later. Mind you I've only heard the Pioneers out a couple of times. Maybe I need to get out more, on the strength of that tune perhaps not . Regards Alan
Tsu Tomatoes Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Collins & Collins. Complete and utter Pants
Garethx Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 The same things in a record which might mark it out as a potential monster (catchiness for want of a better word) can end up making it sickening on repeated listening: in the case of Alfie Davison, Charles Johnson and Jan Jones that's getting on for thirty years of hammer. Time for these tunes to be given a rest. If I love a tune on first listen these days I'm often sworn off buying it as I know I'll probably tire of it just as quickly.
Guest Bearsy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Collins & Collins. Complete and utter Pants That i do agree with
Guest cardysharpy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 BROTHERS GUIDING LIGHT - GETTING TOGETHER
oldsteve woomble Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Sorry Ivor forgot to ring you last nite. Doh!! I'll give you a tinkle later. Anyways, adding to the cake, I've got to say.............. a couple of over-egged 7ts..... Independent woman Movin on a groove Plus most of the things in my playbox................
Simon M Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 That i do agree with Theres a great track on the LP though ..
Guest Bearsy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Theres a great track on the LP though .. really Simon that dont change the fact that its still complete utter pants though
Sean Hampsey Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 GET YOURSELF STRAIGHT DOWN THE DOCTORS IN THE MORNING SEAN........... YOUR OBVIOUSLY NOT RIGHT OH, AND WHERES MY RECORD...! It's just so bleedin miserable, Ivor.... or as we say in these parts 'Mardy'. It sounds like some whinging, sad, lonesome, git crawled into the studio and bleated all the way through the lyrics while his equally despondent mates 'ooooo'd and coooo'd' in sympathy. Just a Miserable frickin awful dire pile of Poo (IMO). And yet... I love the other stuff by the same guys as the Enchanted Five especially "Darling, I Need You Now" and "Have You Ever". Oh.... and as for your record.... ....you're not having it until you admit I'm right!
Simon M Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 really Simon that dont change the fact that its still complete utter pants though yeah ok .I'll give you that

I admit to playing them as new realeases but did'nt think I'd still be hearing them 10 years later. Regards Alan It was a tad strange when I heard Solo played recently at a Northern venue and described as a 'new discovery' (??!!)(honest!!). Suppose it shows how diverse this 'scene' is........ As many layers as an onion....... Or summat
Sean Hampsey Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 shows how different we all are Sean - along with the Differences, The Ultimates is one of my favourite 70s sounds. Viva La Difference, Steve. The Differences is a different kettle of fish, whereas, ultimately, I'm indifferent to the Ultimates.
Winsford Soul Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Gloria Scott "case of too much love making" again.
Sean Hampsey Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Not sure about negative topics Regards Alan Nowt wrong with the Topics, Alan. I'd like to hear more of their stuff played out!

Guest rachel Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 ace spectrum Yep I'd happily never hear that again. Actually I'd have been happy to never hear it in the first place! I'd also like to nominate Hamilton Movement - She's Gone, and I agree that the Differences needs a rest.

Guest Bearsy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 All of the above.... and no doubt all them below too
Guest Brett F Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I've got plenty of 70's things that i could care less if i hear again, taste is so subjective isn't it...."one man's meat.etc." Brett
Geordiejohnson Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 ahhh Brett ever the philosopher, I must be deaf as i havent heard beloyd out for ages in fact about two years, i bloody love the tune. Guest D'Arcy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 shows how different we all are Sean - along with the Differences, The Ultimates is one of my favourite 70s sounds. As is well known Steve, I can't stand the Ultimates and never could. I just don't see what people see in it. Yet The Differences, I love. Strange old world eh.
