boba Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Does anyone have any information about this group -- where they are from, members, etc.? Also, I would like to know if anyone can actually confirm that the Congress group and Big Top group are the same. They are listed together in the soul harmony singles book and are from around the same time. But the big top group clearly has at least one woman singing and it doesn't sound like any women are on the VIP record. Also, the VIP record is more "white" sounding to me (still a nice cut). There are no common names across the VIP / Big Top records but that doesn't mean much because the Big Top records are all Baum/Kaye names so they don't have the names of any real group members. you pulled a fast one / flashback got play here in Chicago (and Honey and the Bees even covered "you pulled a fast one"). Thanks.
Guest Trevski Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Congress "Strange little girl" VIP's certainly white. These are they, methinks.
Chalky Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 (edited) Congress "Strange little girl" VIP's certainly white. These are they, methinks. They are English Trev, from Carlisle I think. They joined with some from the Ramrods and went on to become Spooky Tooth Edited October 5, 2007 by chalky

Thanks. On Big Top: Fred Warner and Larry "Dub" Lawrence, both formerly of the R&B group The Fantastics on R.C.A. and United Artists and later of The Tradewinds; Jackie Carter (female lead), William Nicholson, Horace Williams.
boba Posted October 6, 2007 Author Posted October 6, 2007 On Big Top: Fred Warner and Larry "Dub" Lawrence, both formerly of the R&B group The Fantastics on R.C.A. and United Artists and later of The Tradewinds; Jackie Carter (female lead), William Nicholson, Horace Williams. Thanks, I just noticed that the Big Top group members were in the soul harmony singles book. Are you guys totally sure that the congress group is the UK VIPs? I looked at allmusic.com and there is a CD called "the complete VIPs" that is 28 tracks and supposedly includes all their records from all labels. It doesn't include either congress side. Also, none of the names listed as the group members match the names on the record, which are Jay Darrow and a last name Gluck. Thanks.

"Gluck" is David Gluck who along with Darrow were the Daruck Production team. Anyone got a decent readable scan of Strange Little Girl? Edited October 6, 2007 by chalky
