Sunnysoul Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 What a voice, what an artist , what a legend, what a performer, what a body of work ... what a shame he has hardly ventured outside the USA !

paultp Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) I was lucky enough to see him support Van Morrison @ Brighton Centre a few years ago. Derek Saw him on the same tour at The Albert Hall, went to get 2 singles autographed (didn't know he was illiterate), gave them to the guy on the door and they came back with Bobby Bland scrawled on them both. The guy on the door said Bobby Bland was really chuffed that someone remembered his 60's stuff and had actually signed them himself whereas he normally gets someone to do it for him. The night I saw him he did most of his later work but the following night (when Jo Wallace, Paul Temple et al went to see him) he did a whole load of 60's stuff. They owe me big time . The night we went he did the support slot. Van Morrison came on and we retired to the bar for a while then decided to leave. Little did we know the Van Morrison was as pissed as a fart and had to cut his set short and Bobby Bland came back on and did another set! Derek
Guest Adam G Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 DUKE 407 - POVERTY / BUILDING A FIRE WITH RAIN one his best singles ever some one just buy it! Ive seen the great man twice,I saw him support Van Morrison at Manchester but the best one was unbeleivably in Colne Town Hall he was on with Irma Thomas and Earl King. Small venue full backing band he was a little unwell but his vocals were just awsome. I collect all his output as some of his Malaco stuff is just sublime. His "get on down with Bobby Bland " lp is my personal every tracks a winner lp with his "the california album a close second"
