I've posted a few clips from this before but here is the whole of the first half of the tape.

Fantastic stuff from September 1974....only 43 minutes worth but do keep listening to the end for some great atmosphere and surprise tracks. The purists may find some of the selections bizarre in this day and age, but it was all good fun back then.

Thanks for posting this up Pete , every time I think I've moved on and got The Casino bug out of my head , listening to live recordings of the old place , takes me right back and tugs at the heart strings .Makes you realise what great records Russ played in the early years too .We all scoff at the likes of The Javells getting played , but doesn't it sound great on this tape ? Hope you can post up Richard's spot and yes he did play Gary Lewis !! Thanks a lot ,Eddie

I have a tape where Mr Searling plays Gary Lewis and Carstairs back to back
hello jim g,do not mention the carstairs otherwise that nice mr pete smith chappy will not add part two of his wigan thing.

Cheers Pete part one was excellent bring on Part 2. But Pete Please tell me which do you prefer Gary Lewis or Carstairs.

Does anyone remember when a big scandle broke that Jerry Lewis beat his kids. My Mrs at the time was a big Jerry lewis fan and was absolutely shocked. When she mentioned it to me , the only thing I could say was "have you actually heard My Hearts Symphony". In my opinion, in my time going to Wigan 73-77 it was the worse record played or possibly Johnny Vonelli.

jerry lewis... gary lewis? are we at cross purposes here?

johnny vanelli was a monster. I still think it sounds good today.

strap me to that pillory...

Gary Lewis was Jerry Lewis son

when I saw the the wife beating bit, I immediately thought of jerry lee, got me signals crossed.

would you say jerry lee was better than the carstairs pete? :-)

Great stuff, Pete, as always.

It's been said before, but you could cry listening to this stuff.

It's representative of so much that was so special to us as we were enjoying at the time.

No regrets about how life has been for me since then - I wouldn't swap anything for the "real" pleasures that married life, a mortgage and two children bring you - but what would you give to be back at Station Road for one more time, experiencing that buzz, that passion, that feeling that life couldn't get any better than this!

Nostalgia - it ain't what it used to be.

I have a tape from the Pendelum and one from the Mecca in 73/74. Pete and Mark Freeman have put both onto CD for me, but I have never heard a tape from the torch.

Anybody got one?
