Here's another puzzler for you lot.

Anyone know of a Honey and The Bees release on Pentagon? Is it the same group?

Mind you there aren't too many Wootens in Philly  so must have come from a relative of Ann as a guess. And must be from late '65 early '66ish ie after the name change, and possibly either side of the two outings on Academy but before the Arctic releases which started in '66

It sounds good over the phone but can't find any info on it anywhere.

Over to you

As usual all info appreciated

Cheers Dazz but that much I knew after all you have to trust that the seller can actually read the label  .

I guess I'm more concerned to find if there are millions of these around or if it's reasonably rare. Is it known on the scene? Is Petagon a Philly label? Was this the first (maybe only) release on the label? Is it actually the same group (though as I said I suspect it is).

The Philly Pentagon label ( Vince Apollo ) does not appear to be the same label as the Honey & the Bees Pentagon label which looks to be from New York.

New York  That would be an unexpected twist it looks nothing like the Vince Appollo I know that much but label designs changed all the time and this is coming from Philly so thought perhaps it was local.

This one is pink with no address details at all but I'll post a scan when it arrives as I've bought it anyway now. Thanks for the info guys especially the price indication Dazz.

The "New York" Pentagon label is shown as being distributed by Wizz Records which was a New York label.

Dave Rimmer's site shows a discography for Honey & the Bees but does not include the Pentagon track. Could this be a different group?

Gedda, pretty sure I've got something at home in the racks on a pentagon label....but if memory serves me right it was on a blue/silver label?! Will have a look laters. Hope you're good...

Missed the Wizz referance on the label but as I say I've only had it read to me over the phone. It could be a different group but my contact got it from a James Wooten who I guessed could be a relative of Ann Wooten who was with the Yum Yums and Honey and the Bees.

I did check Dave's site but as he only has one of the Academy releases in that discography thought it may not be complate.

Soul Harmony Singles has the Pentagon Honey & The Bees as the same group who recorded for Academy, Arctic, Josie etc. R&B indies has the release dated 1959.

1959? That would mean they recorded as the Yum Yums after that and then reverted to Honey and the Bees some years later. Or maybe the Yum Yums was just the name assigned to the release as with the Wellingtons - Leroy and the Gallhads?

The plot thickens

I just looked, it doesn't have any date on the release (it's listed at the end of the listings where they list the ones they don't know the date for).

The date is under the label which may or may not be the date for release, not really clear. If the label was set up 1959 how long would they wait for a release?

I didn't actually see the label, I was just commenting what was in the soul harmony singles book. I thought you were saying that the book says it was released in 1959. I looked it the book and it didn't list a release date. Sorry if I was not understanding you correctly. Thanks.
