A long time back, but the first true northern i've ever heard for an advert. Nowadays they're all over the telly. I'd like to nominate the Big Dollop on the Hellmans ad for the first true soulie dancer on telly. Some of his moves are very familiar. Everytime time he comes on my wife shouts, 'northern soul!' to taunt me... Edited February 22, 200520 yr by mattmale

He seems to be able to park his 'big' car outside the branch, takes me half an hour to find somewhere! (and I only have a fiesta!!)
February 23, 200520 yr There's a good funky instro version of 'Comin' Home Baby' on a mobile phone ad at the mo that is quite good. And a recent land rover add featured a rock version of 'Have Love Will Travel' not realy my cup of tea tho. I remember Neil Jones suggesting in an article some 'suitable tracks for some products. If I can find it I'll post it up but one that sticks in my mind was 'Baby Don't You Weep' as a tune for 'Tena Landy'
February 23, 200520 yr There was that life assurance ad a couple of years back that used the backing track to Sam Fletcher - I'd Think It Over (minus the vocal). That certainly pricked my ears up as I was slouched in front of the telly after a hard day's graft!! Rich
February 23, 200520 yr You would think they would come up with an appropriate ad for talc wouldn't you - 'Not only good for baby's bums but for dance floors too!!'

March 2, 200520 yr On one edition of Wife Swap they played "Lover" by the DeLites at the end and on that Johnny Vegas/Dave Spikey thing they played "Take A Giant Step" by the Profiles. They even had the pause in the music written into the script so Spikey started talking and the music came back in to embarrass him. Mind you they played "Ghost In My House" on the next instalment.
